Located on the western shore of the Sea of Galilee, Tiberias is a favorite health and holiday resort as well as a pilgrimage destination.

Tiberias is 2,000 years old, constructed by Herod Antipas around the year 20. The city was dedicated to the Roman Caesar Tiberius, and is mentioned only in passing in the Gospels: "Then some boats from Tiberias landed near the place where the people had eaten the bread after the Lord had given thanks."

It's a nice idea :),
Anyway it looked like we could use a fresh new thread . some of the other threads got polluted with irrelevant B.S.

I agree, I also hoped people would post more Tel Aviv pictures in the tel aviv thread etc....like that we could create many big threads which will lead the Israeli discussion and take it forward..

Amazing... I have never seen the city like that... I have always thought Tiberias is like as not much of building... bored... but there's so many nice buildings and hotels...

It is really cool :)

I like Tiberias, altough the center is a bit small, Kineret is very nice. The view from the top of the hills is breathtaking. I'll post a few of my photos later on.

the Government and the privet sector are investing 60M$ in improving the city look and taking action to change visitors habits.
Their intention is to form this one weekend city In to a shopping center and enlarge economic activity overall.
This will lead to an increase in the city budget that will enable it to fund projects on an international level.
The project will focus at the city center and will add 400,000 sqm to it.
The construction will be only from local typical materials to imitate the historical buildings .

"Nitsba to build Tiberias mall
The Nazareth Court for Administrative Affairs last week ruled in Nitsba’s favor, against Danny Daniloff, who petitioned against the Mul Hakinneret Mall.
Guy Yamin 11 Jun 06 11:10
The battle over the Tiberias mall is over. Nitsba Holdings Ltd. (TASE: NTBA) will build the “Mul Hakinneret” Mall (Across from the Sea of Galilee Mall) on the site of the town’s central bus station. The mall will have 17,000 sq.m. of commercial and 3,000 sq.m. of office space. "

im not geting excite of the city. don't really like it.
the onley place i like there is the promenade.
there are so many abandoned buildings, almost on every street.
and the news about the mall are great news! it's time to turn that site to something aesthetic. the location is great for a mall.

Tiberias should be sister city of an Italian city that had a lot of significance in Roman times. Since Rome is twined with Paris, maybe it could be Pompeii.

I think its a plus, I actually prefer areas that are quiet and less crowded.
it has a village atmosphere rather than a busy city.
