With the development of the Indian Premier League and the World Cup in 2011, India is now confirmed as one of the most significant players in World Cricket. In 2007 the Maharashtra Cricket Association commissioned Hopkins Architects to design a new 55,000 seat stadium in Pune, 170km south-east of Mumbai and 800m above sea-level on the Deccan Plateau.

I'm not sure what it is about India, but there seems to be a lack of 'quality' to many new buildings/stadiums. Really is a shame. :ohno:

^^^its still U/C and being built by and for a very reputed firm....don't worry it wont collapse!!!!

wanted to see the progress of this project......but sad no posts since august.....:(

this is due to delay the project
in rainy season , heavy rain fall iin this area .. so difficult to work there so.....

i visit stadium in july ..........lots of work is going on

aren't they gonna build the second tier all around the stadium..............i mean in the renders there is a second tier all around the stadium except a few gaps for air flow but i don't see a second tier here except in the pavilion stand are they gonna build it after the ipl v?

Ranji Trophy tie at new stadium in Pune
PUNE: The Subrata Roy Sahara Stadium, off the Pune-Mumbai Expressway in Gahunje, will host the Ranji Trophy Elite playoff match between Maharashtra and Himachal Pradesh from Wednesday.

Maharashtra Cricket Association president Ajay Shirke said on Thursday. "After 76 years of existence the MCA will have their own stadium," said Shirke.

The match will be a dress rehearsal for the state-of-the-art stadium, which will be home to Pune Warriors during the fifth edition of the Indian Premier League next summer.

Just look at the obstruction those vertical columns will cause to spectators in the name of roof.

A stadium quality of MCG, Gabba, SCG will never ever be equaled in India which lacks the imagination to give unobstructive view 360 degrees like Australia does.

at best, these are eye candy. nothing more nothing less.
