View Full Version : Second Test Match Vs India
Aussie Bhoy October 14th, 2004, 12:23 PM Openers had a great start, but it's gone downhill now. 228/9 at the moment, pretty bad when we were 0-136.
Hopefully it's the pitch, and our bowlers can get stuck in.
Anyone else ever follow the cricket on Cricinfo online?
Aussie Bhoy October 14th, 2004, 12:41 PM It's gets worse, a runout on the final wicket, because the no 11 batsmen wants to take 2 runs, and Katich, the only recognised batsmen left doesn't. All out for 235
jellyman October 14th, 2004, 11:45 PM interesting to see the Indians come back in the second. I hope we win though.
CULWULLA October 15th, 2004, 04:35 AM we had to make it a contest!lol
i hate when we win all the time.
go warne!!!
hoffburger October 15th, 2004, 09:57 AM warney now world record wicket taker with 533. wont last too long though but at least its a good achievement
Aussie Bhoy October 15th, 2004, 11:03 AM It will stand in my book, he isn't a chucker. It's a disgrace that a racially motivated ICC allows Muttiah Muralitharan to continue chucking on certain deliveries, and at the same time threatens any player or umpire that speaks out.
CULWULLA October 15th, 2004, 01:32 PM i agree, Muttiah Muralitharan cant bowl legally at all.
on ya worne. now get a handful more tommorroww!
Jonesy55 October 15th, 2004, 02:03 PM Hey, at least Murali isn't a drug cheat! ;)
Arunava October 15th, 2004, 02:38 PM Hey, at least Murali isn't a drug cheat! ;)
haha, exactly what I was going to say!
CHapmaN October 16th, 2004, 01:35 AM yea, but warne did his time for that. so, techincally ( ;) ) he never bowled under the influence of drugs.
Mr MacPhisto October 16th, 2004, 03:28 AM Warnie did nothing wrong. It was his mum! (or maybe it was joe the camera man).
Seriously though he does deserve the world record. It was great to see the knowledgable Indian crowd giving him the ovation he deserved.
Arunava October 16th, 2004, 05:25 AM ^Yeah, he does deserve it, as did Murali... Both brilliant bowlers, I can't see why some people can't look past nationalistic differences to acknowledge that.
jacobsian October 16th, 2004, 05:37 AM Sri Lankan, Australian, English, Martian, doesn't make a difference if you're a fair dinkum chucker.
CULWULLA October 18th, 2004, 01:56 AM wow martyn & Gillespie saves aussies butt.

Thrilling chase beckons
India, 0-19 in its second innings, requires 210 more runs to win the second Test after Australia climbed back into the eventful struggle with a brave batting performance on day four at Chennai's Chidambaram Stadium.
Centurymaker Damien Martyn and nightwatchman Jason Gillespie shared a record fifth-wicket stand of 139 off 56 overs to lead Australia's bold fightback, which produced 219 runs for the loss of six wickets off 83.5 overs on the enthralling fourth day.
Australia's overall lead was 228 when it was dismissed for 369 in its second innings, with Michael Clarke unbeaten on 39 (four fours) off 98 balls, and Indian leg-spinner Anil Kumble, on his 34th birthday, taking three of the six fourth-day wickets for innings figures of 6-133 and a magnificent match haul of 13-181 off 64.3 overs to move ahead of Wasim Akram into seventh position on the all-time list of Test wicket-takers.
Martyn (104, with a six and 11 fours, off 210 balls) and Gillespie (26, with one four, off 165 balls) defied India's bowlers on a wearing pitch and hot, humid conditions until they were both caught low at slip by Rahul Dravid off Harbhajan Singh off the third and sixth balls of the third-last over before tea.
Clarke and Darren Lehmann continued Australia's revival with a seventh-wicket partnership of 62 off 17.1 overs before Lehmann (31, with three fours, off 51 balls) and Shane Warne (0) fell to Kumble within three balls of each other in the 123rd over.
Lehmann tried to pull a short a short delivery and edged a catch to wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel off the toe of his bat, and Warne pushed an easy catch to Mohammad Kaif at silly mid off.
Kumble struck again by having Michael Kasprowicz (5) leg before and Harbhajan bowled Glenn McGrath (2) to end the innings, and Indian opening batsmen Yuvraj Singh (7no) and Virender Sehwag (12no) survived three overs before stumps.
Martyn had raised his eighth century in 46 Tests, and first hundred against India, with a towering six over long off off Kumble.
The Martyn-Gillespie stand was Australia's highest for the fifth wicket in India, eclipsing the Ian Redpath-Paul Sheahan 131 at Kanpur in 1969-70.
Martyn was 19 and Gillespie had not scored when Australia resumed at 4-150 off 50 overs - a lead of only nine - Martyn was 67 and Gillespie 15 in the lunch score of 4-230 off 81 overs - a lead of 89 - and Clarke was on four and Lehmann two in the tea score of 6-290 off 107 overs - a lead of 149.
Martyn's 51st run was his 3000th in Test cricket. He will celebrate his 33rd birthday on Thursday.
While Martyn took slightly more of the strike, without farming it, and played some authoritative drives and pulls, Gillespie gave him grand support as he defending grimly, forward or back, to preserve his wicket.
Harbhajan dropped a sharp left-handed return chance when Gillespie was 17 at 4-238.
The dusty, broken pitch gave ample encouragement to the bowlers - variable, sometimes vicious, bounce and turn - but Martyn and Gillespie held their nerve, playing each ball on its merit and not striving for anything extravagant.
hoffburger October 18th, 2004, 08:37 AM looks like the rain might save the aussies. its pissing down in chennai. i think the aussies will be happy with a draw if they can get one.
Aussie Bhoy October 18th, 2004, 11:23 AM A draw is a dissapointment, it's a pity they can't have a spare extra day, for times when a entire days play is lost to the elements.
Mr MacPhisto October 18th, 2004, 01:57 PM At least Queensland squeezed in enough play at the Gabba today to win their first shield game of the season.
Andy Symmonds in fine form with the bat and Bic grabbing a 10 wicket haul.
Champions.
barneybuck October 18th, 2004, 08:11 PM On Foxtel they said that Murali has claimed 120 wickets bowling against Zimbabwe and Bangladesh to Shane Warnes( hasnt even played against Bangla) total of only 6 against these nohopers - puts the record in proper context I would think.

True. However, you must remember SL only have Vaas to back up Murali. While Oz have Dizzy, McGrath and usuall another world class paceman. So Murali does get to bowl down one end pretty much all day, compared to Warney who has to share the bag of wickets. Look at the stats for 5 fors in a innings, im sure Murali has got over 44.
