This 140000 inhabitants city (it's bigger than Reykjavik), was founded in the 19 century to anticipate to the expansionist ambitions of England and France to dominate the Magellan Channel, that was strategic because the Panama Channel did'nt existed.
The chilean goverment sent an expedition to create a city and they settled in Brunswick Peninsula, at a place called Sandy Point (Punta Arenas).
Many pioneers arrived here and they made a big fortune with cows and comerce. In the early 20 century lots of croats inmigrants arrived here, (nearly all the population of Punta Arenas has croats ancestors). Also the English and Spanish colony is numerous here.
Now the city is one of the richest cities of Chile (with and income of 10000 dollars per head, in stock exchange market system), mainly because of oil and the indutries that had settled here. It don't have tall buildings, but it is a very beautiful city in the south of the world.

If you are seeking for high rises, this city doesn't have it...

But it is extremely beautiful, located at the end of Chile...

i like very much the scenery...The arquitecture is the same as in Ushuaia.But there is no skyline...6.5/10
