sugizm November 14th, 2004, 02:10 PM "Hi,
Here is a photo I took in 1968. This was the first tall building in Penang and I was sitting in the doorway of one of the Yellow RAF Whirlwind helicopters as we flew down Penang Road. Can you please put this up on your site and include an up to date photo of this hope as I have no idea what the finished building looks like.
David Cunningham,
Ex RAF Butterworth."
http://penangpage.com/pics/dave10.jpg
The "tall building" was the Merlin Hotel (now the City Bayview Hotel) and its revolving restaurant (which is still there) can be seen clearly at the top. The Esso pump in the foreground is also still there and looks pretty much the same. On the left (foreground) is the E & O Hotel and that long stretch of roof must have covered those small apartments where many of the RAAF school teachers were housed. Opposite the road was Wearne Brothers (now the Garage) which sold and serviced mainly British cars.

Pablo October 14th, 2005, 04:02 PM I always find that old Penang's streets are crowder than now...maybe at that time, cars r not too popular...ppl walking, cycling and travel one place to another place by using trishaw;)..or maybe at that time, we have Tram car..that make the streets in Penang look crowder:D:D..
But now, all the streets in Penang is pack with car..less ppl walking around at the road side, even in the downtown..look at today Star Newspaper, they have some photographs showing the bad traffic congestion in some roads in penang..headache

THT-United October 26th, 2009, 02:59 AM Well, you know KL grows so fast... I suppose this pix is the skyline of around 5 years back... Notice that Avenue K is still in its abandoned state (pix 4 & 6) and Maju Junction is under construction (pix 3)... Also, there is no sign of Pavilion (pix 5)...
nazrey October 26th, 2009, 11:48 AM You forgot KL Convention Centre!
