Hi guys. I want to make this the Bahrain Pictures thread and build on it. To get it started, here are some pics of downtown and the new seef area taken from a construction site near the sea.

well these low-rises, most of them sprung up during the days of the 80's boom. Bahrain has hundreds of them. Well, slowly, bahrain is changing into a high-rise country. I read that there are proposed towers called Pearl Towers costing $150 million so we'll c. I'll try and find towers and post them, but yea it's not that easy. But, Bahrain has a really nice skyline, aka mini manhattan for its low-rises.

you're right, everything is hard to find as only in very first stages of design.
i read there are dozens of towers planned for both qatar and bahrain, but it takes time. it even took dubai a year till the first projects were released

we just have to wait a little bit

Most pics from pbase are not appearing.

The low-rises are the same as Dubai's 80's lowrises in Bur Dubai and Deira.

Something I noticed from Bahrain pics though is that it's not into horticulture or greenery. It's all sand with streets and buildings, very dry-looking. And the greenery and water in the hotels looks like a swamp in that arrangement.

I say more horticulturists needed.

The thing with bahrain is that it had a lot of greenery but now it's being removed to build since land is scarce. I totally agree with you that we need more greenery. The water in the hotel is a lagoon. Well, again really the first pics as qatar4ever mentioned don't do bahrain justice.

ya it's the sheikh isa library, it's going to be amazing when finished, especially the islamic design. Should be completed soon, and this library believe it or not started construction in 1999 (designs n all). I'll try n find a rendering of it.

Hey dude, ya, you'll never get problems, Bahrain is a very open minded society and tourism is encouraged. 5 million people visited last year. Saudi Arabia is the only place in the gulf we're you'll not be able to travel as a tourist, but that might change in the near future. Bahrain is a mix of old and new, so it's balanced out, you have your villages (feels like your in a different world) and you have the cities, which are different.

Hi Zohar,

Bahrain is an archipelago of 33 islands in the Arabian Gulf, situated between Saudi Arabia's east coast and the Qatar peninsula.

Bahrain island is the largest of the islands; at about 48 kms long and 16 kms wide it covers some 586 sq kms. By contrast, Muharraq, the second largest island, is only 21 kms square.

Manama, the capital, is where much of the business is concentrated. It is easily accessible from all parts of the country.

At the centre of Bahrain is its highest point, Jebel Dukhan. The majority of Bahrain's oil wells are to be found in this area.

Well, we are an Islamic country...I guess religious too, but the thing that differentiates us from the other surrounding neighbor countries is our hospitality and tolerance....One is advised to dress conservatively..You can dress however you like, but if you wear skimpy and very tight revealing clothes you will definately get some funny looks..Thats the interesting thing about Bahrain (which i hope the MP's don't change)..You will find in our malls some covered up ladies, some with black from head to toe, but u will also find plenty of trendy ppl wearing the latest fashion, sleeveless shirts, skirts, whatever..People live in harmony...and this open-mindedness is why i think we r special in the gulf...we have 66% natives...So our openmindedness is our own, whereas if u go to places like Dubai, u might find they seem to be more openminded, but thats because they r foreigners and expats, like probably 80% r expats in Dubai i would guess.....The liberality there does not really reflect the native populations liberality or social paradigm...The real Emarati's, which u won't find many of i guess in Dubai, r more on the conservative side...

B-Spirit, where are those skyline pictures u promised!?

This is a crappy picture i took today of our mini Manhattan, lol...Manama's skyline, at least part of it! :)

It wasn't the clearest of days, but it was quite clear..The blurriness isn't dust or sand as some of u might think..
Its due to zooming with my W800 camera fone...I just love my fone..The w800i is the best! :tongue2:

I flew Gulf Air's and Emirates simulators before :).

Hi-tech simulator for pilots

GULF Air pilots will soon be training in a state-of-the-art simulator complex being built in Bahrain.

The BD3.5 million facility is nearing completion at Gulf Air's headquarters in Muharraq.

It is expected to be finished by the end of this year and will offer simulated on-board training to pilots on Boeing B767, Airbus A320 and A330/340 jets, in three flight simulators.

The training will focus on preparing pilots to handle scenarios involving engine failures, systems malfunctions and extremes of weather and turbulence.

The facility, executed by Bahrain's Mazen Al Umran Consulting Engineers, will have the latest visual systems, computer graphics and screen projections to provide realistic environments during training.

Operations vice-president Captain Hameed Ali said the project was conceived in-house by Gulf Air engineers and the aesthetic design of the building was the first of its kind in the region.

"It has taken only six months from start-to-finish, which is a record for a project of this size," he said.

"Every Gulf Air employee will be proud of this project."

International certification for the simulator is expected to be obtained by the second week of January, following which the facility will be open for regular training.

In addition to providing training for Gulf Air crews, it will be offered to other airlines wanting to use the facility.

Capt Hameed said that internationally, pilots have to undergo training every six months to keep updated, but many airlines do not have a simulator facility of their own.

"Gulf Air will have a unique commercial opportunity to exploit this state-of-the-art facility," he added.
