"Not enough height" is the only one I might agree with. Well, except I don't think cities like SpB needs any height at all.

Find some more pictures in the Russian forum. It's as dense as any other European city. It's very clean (not as stertile as London, but certainly not dirty at all). As for the old-fashioned bit.... 18th and 19th century architecture of the city center is what made it one of the most beautiful cities in the world (and this is not just my opinion). It's in the exact same league as Amsterdam, Venice and Florence. And you're saying it "needs work".

Not enough height, well, I agree that it would be nice to have a cluster somewhere, but that is hardly important - just nice.

As for density, you don't need height for density. That city is denser than probably any city in the U.S. bar NY. and from the looks of it, I'd say the Urban Area would be denser in total than NY's urban area.

Dirty? I don't see example's of dirty in those photo's.

Old Fashioned... well, it's got history, and that is a pretty good asset. I city can always build new buildings and look modern, but it can never build history like you see here or in Paris. Paris has both amazing history, and stunning modern architecture as well, it has the best of both worlds. And the way Russia is getting itself on it's feet these days, I wouldn't be suprised to see some amazing modern buildings coming up in the future - Moscow's doing pretty good these days.

Anyway, you're entitled to your opinion, but I don't think it is accurate ;O)

I say 7/10 - could do with some new stuff and a cluster somewhere.

Not enough height!

Being a skyscraper fan is all very well, but talk about being one dimensional. St Petersburg is wonderful, and one of the top three major cities in the world that must not be spoilt with skyscrapers alongside Rome and Paris.

I don't really feel that St Petersburg needs scrapers...they might be nice but unless it was done properly it would taint the historic aspects of the city.

Washington, DC has no skyscrapers, and I doubt if any will ever be builr. And the city is better for its lack of them.

Very true, although many of these cities do have a cluster outside of the historical area which is more than fine. London and Paris with Canary Wharf and La Defense are classic examples. Even Rome has one.

St Petersburg could do with one as well, and it wouldn't hurt the cityscape at all - as long as it's not built in the historical center.

построены еще в 80-е годы почти целиком , но по каким то
причинам стройка была остановлена и они простояли лет 15.
Только недавно они были наконец доделаны.

It's a TV tower built in 1963 to a height of 310 m.

It's one of the most beautiful cities in Europe, but its skyline is quite flat and boring (only few historic spires and some blocks it the distance). 6/10

I have mixed feelings, some places are nice but some really kitchy (especialy modern buildings) but its a problem of Russian architecture nowadays, anyway I rate old buildings for 8/10 and new for 3,5/10 overall I give 6

Polish NEW architecture don't look any better. i was 3 weeks ago for a study to Warsaw and the Architecture of comieblocks there is not that much different then from Moscow or St. Petersburg.

Superb pictures fenol. I almost wanna kill myself for having lived majority of my life in Russia and never once visiting Putinburg. Next time I go back thet's the first place I'll drop by.

Regarding dolphin's comment I kinda have to agree...not that the new buildings are ugly but that they have no urban development plan what's so ever....they stick random buildings wherever they want without thinking of arranging them to make it look nice.

i was twice in st.petersburg and i was both times impressed.
this town is the best example that also a town without skyscrapers can be amazing. from the dome of the isaac-cathedral you have a great view on the city with all the old buildings. the newski-prospekt is the russian champs elysees and the underground-stations look like castles with their golden lamps and marble floor.

doesnt need a lot of tall skyscrapers.. :okay:

"Not enough height" is the only one I might agree with. Well, except I don't think cities like SpB needs any height at all.

Find some more pictures in the Russian forum. It's as dense as any other European city. It's very clean (not as stertile as London, but certainly not dirty at all). As for the old-fashioned bit.... 18th and 19th century architecture of the city center is what made it one of the most beautiful cities in the world (and this is not just my opinion). It's in the exact same league as Amsterdam, Venice and Florence. And you're saying it "needs work".

I wouldn't charachterize London as a sterile city. There is quite enough dirt in some areas. Also bags with rubbish that line up all its central streets do not add any charm whatsoever.

I have mixed feelings, some places are nice but some really kitchy (especialy modern buildings) but its a problem of Russian architecture nowadays, anyway I rate old buildings for 8/10 and new for 3,5/10 overall I give 6

It is not permafrost that matters in case of high-rise buildings in this city, it's its swampy ground, water begins just 2 meters from the street level.

9,5: Saint Petersburg é uma cidade sensacional, lindissima!
Parece uma Paris em escala aumentada, com seus prédios com gabarito único, porém bem maiores que o da capital francesa e ainda com uma vantagem: ao invés do uso excessivo dos tons pastéis vemos muitas cores vivas.
E os rios e canais que cortam a cidade são fantásticos, muito lindos mesmos!!!
Uma das minhas cidades européias prediletas!

5/10. Beautiful city worthy of a 10/10, but not much of a skyline, which is what we are voting for. The tops of the churches lit up makes it great, but you can see those ugly radio towers and smoke towers taller than the church tops.
