The Federal Government is currently planning to include entrepreneurial study in school curricular across the country.

By the time the plan materialises, the study would be included in school curricular starting from the secondary school level.

Minister of Education, Prof. Ruqayyatu Rufa'i, said this on Monday while receiving a delegation of the Council of Nigerian Women in the Diaspora in Abuja.

Apart from the entrepreneur study, Rufa'i added that additional skills acquisition centres would be created across the country.

The aim according to her, is for the nation not to produce graduates that will be burden on the society.

She said the desire of the Federal Government graduates to be on their own upon graduation.

While commending the visiting women for their decision to return home and contribute to the nation's development, the minister urged other Nigerians, who were resident abroad, to borrow a leaf from them.

She said, "We are happy that you have decided to come back home and make impacts. It is important that Nigerians in the Diaspora return home and join hands with the government of President Goodluck Jonathan to transform in the country in line with his transformation agenda."

Earlier, the group's chairman, Mrs. Ngozi Nwankwo, said their decision to return home and contribute their quota to national development stemmed from the charge given to them by President Goodluck Jonathan during a recent Diaspora conference.

Nwankwo observed that for the government to succeed in its quest to bring Nigerians abroad back home, some things must be improved upon to attract them.

She expressed the willingness of her group to collaborate with the government to realise the dream.

Nigeria will today (Wednesday) make history as its NigeriaSat-2 and NigeriaSat-X satellites will go into the orbit at exactly 8.12am at the launch site in Yasny, in Russi.

This was disclosed by the Head, Media and Corporate Affairs, National Space Research and Development Agency, Mr. Felix Ale, in a statement made available to our correspondent on Tuesday.

According to the statement, the two spacecraft have been integrated on the launch vehicle and fuelling of the launcher is already completed, while all parameters required for a successful launch have been met.

The launch of the satellites is expected to provoke high resolution data revolution in Nigeria and Africa as a whole.

Ale said, “NigeriaSat-2, after its launch, will be the most advanced satellite of its kind in the global community. The successful launch of the satellites will no doubt re-echo the strategic position of Nigeria as a leading space faring nation in Africa, but it will also represent a landmark achievement of the government and people of Nigeria in the field of space science and technology across the globe.

Nigeria launches 2 new satellites into orbit

By BASHIR ADIGUN , 08.17.11, 12:17 PM EDT

ABUJA, Nigeria -- Nigeria launched two observation satellites into orbit Wednesday, and authorities said they hoped to use the equipment to monitor weather in a region seasonally ravaged by disasters.

Nigeria launched NigeriaSat-2 and NigeriaSat-X into orbit Wednesday morning from a Russian launch pad in the town of Yasny, President Goodluck Jonathan said on state-run television.
He described the event as "another milestone in our nation's effort to solve national problems through space technology."

The satellites could have a variety of applications, authorities said, which include monitoring disaster-prone areas in a country that stretches into Africa's Sahel, a belt of land on the Sahara Desert's southern fringe that sees extreme weather conditions. It experiences severe droughts in the dry season and devastating rainfall in the wet season. Floods last year displaced about 500,000 people nationwide, with most of them in the Sahel region.

Authorities said NigeriaSat-2 can detect anything wider than 8.2 feet (2.5 meters), such as cars. That means the satellites also could be used for military and intelligence purposes.

The satellite launch also spotlights Nigeria as a main African player in space technology development, rivaling countries such as South Africa and Algeria, which also have space programs. Despite the strides Nigeria's space technology industry has made in recent years, it remains largely dependent on other nations' technology. NigeriaSat-X was built by a team of Nigerian engineers and scientists at Surrey Satellite Technology Ltd. in the United Kingdom, while NigeriaSat-2 was built in collaboration with the U.K. company's team, said Felix Ale, a spokesman for the National Space Research and Development Agency.

Nigerian officials hope this launch goes better than the country's last. In May 2007, Nigeria launched its first communication satellite, built by a Chinese team and launched from a Chinese pad. NIGCOMSAT-1 was expected to provide phone, broadband Internet and broadcasting services in Africa's most populous country, but it was lost in space just over a year later. Authorities said a replacement satellite will be launched before the end of the year.

Associated Press writer Yinka Ibukun in Lagos, Nigeria contributed to this report.
