This is a thread about one of my favorite designer. Philippe Starck is well famous for several items.

One of his item I like the least the famous Juicy Salif, it's a sleek juicer

An alarm clock for Telefunken

And some stuff from him I've bought and love

The Top Top table (exists in various shape and size)

I've bought his Juicy Salif from a bazaar in Izmir for a really ridiculous price, $8~ I like his designs (Well, except his chairs), but I agree with Concrete Stereo about him being an overrated designer.

hmm, I think his work either looks unspectacular (e.g. the clock) or cheap (e.g. mouse and plastic chairs)..
I don't like it.

Agreed...the Louis Ghost chairs are genius.....and if Kartell ever stop production of them they will become collectors items.

Philippe Starck designed Felix Bar at the Hongkong Peninsula is a little subtle if not staid light-dependent interiors with focus on occasional shock value like it did to me when I peed facing the glass wall inside the men's washroom.

I have to say I'm disatisfied with my Top Top table (the one with a glass plate). I had the good idea to clean it with water and apparently the lacquer is apparently not covering the whole table and there are parts in which the water can infiltrate, causing the plastic to swell up.

Of course Kartell says these tables are not meant to be cleaned with water.

My piece of advice is that if you want a black table with a glass plate. Get something from Zeus instead, steel>plastic and it'll be cheaper.

Philippe is in the Philipp-ines

Currently he's working on a project in Manila, it would probably be an interesting tower.

New Manila Tower to be Designed by Philippe Starck
3rd Feb 2012

yoo and Century Properties Group have teamed up for a new and exciting residential project in the Philippines. yoo inspired by Starck will define the amenity spaces of the new building and provide interior design inspirations for the living spaces. The project will officially launch the second quarter of 2012.

http://www.yoo.com/news/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/Antonios-with-Philippe-Starck-1024x769.jpg

Set to launch in the second quarter of 2012, the tower will be literally a vertical community. Think a whole village that has levels instead of streets. This is the fourth such project by Century Properties in Manila; others include Trump Tower Manila, The Milano Residences designed by Versace Home and a condominium project designed by Missoni Home.

“This project interests me a lot because it’s about quality of life and the happiness of people who will live in this place, which will be so, so different,” stated Philippe Stark. “After finding the best location for the project, the local architect, and the best developer, Century Properties, we are now starting to work on creating a great and incredible vertical village. You will be proud to be part of this project which I have designed for you in the middle of Manila, Philippines.”
