How many of you have heard about Oscar Fredriks Church in Göteborg? When I was in Gothenburg this spring 2004, I discovered a very beautiful church(gothic I think) not very far west of downtown.

I took this pic above. But I must say I think this church is underrepresented as I think it is Göteborg's tallest building, it looks nearly 100m.

Does anyone know the real height or have any guess? My guess is 90m.
Edit: It was built 1893.

Thats quite a new church, probably from the 19th century

I've mailed the church and asked about the height, so we'll see when the answer comes...

Thanks, Atlantica C5! Very kind of you. I hope it is 90m so I don't need to change my drawing, but if it is taller it is of course better in some way.

I've got the answer now, it's "only" 75 m tall, so it looks like you have to make it lower in height

Thanks! I was a little bit "worried" about that. I was referring to Petrikyrkan and thought it can just be 10 m lower than it. It looks very tall, may be because it is standing on a hill. However, 75 m is still pretty tall for Sweden and it feels a bit strange that there are churches that are such tall but not included on diagram, since I (and probably many others) for long have thought that Gothia Towers and Lilla Bommen are much taller than everything else in Göteborg.

I thougth 75 meters were about the usual hight of the city churches in sweden

Yes, they use to be around 70 meters in larger Swedish cities. But there are exceptions, as Petri Church in Malmö that is 105 m.

I was just browsing for pictures of Göteborg. I don't know if you see it in the pictures here but the church is actually at the top of a high hill, which makes it look enormous, especially from the side to the left in the first picture where the hill is very steep.

(There seems to be a lack of photos from Göteborg here. Maybe I can do something about it.)

Hi, plupp-plupp, and welcome!

I remember we had a picture thread or two of your handsome home town here ... a long time ago. If you could do something about the lack of photos of Göteborg, that would be wonderful!

Please feel free to introduce yourself in the Welcome Thread and also go to "How many, from where" in the Skybar in order to be officially registered in the S&B community. :)

Pictures of Göteborg? Just click on the link below my signature. When you enter my website, and choose Göteborg, there are a lot of photos from the whole city(I made a thread about that almost a year ago)! But even though there need to be more posts about the city.

And welcome, plupp-plupp!
