The show was called Que Pasa U.S.A?, not que pasa america, and it has never been aired on univision. The show was produced on public television, therefore is shown on PBS. :)

Wow. Nice old skyline.

Miami have been much changed in 1980s for new skyscraper, new metromover, new meteriol and more new business. It is much better this year for more new project.

True...1-95 sure looks like a mess...It looks like the tallest building is the 200 Biscayne tower (34 stories?). We've come a long way baby!!
It sure would be nice to put 95 in a trench from somewhere just south of 195 all the way to US 1 and do the same for 395 East to the water. That would really open up some views and enhance the livability of Overtown and other neighborhoods with potential. Let's hope the Transportation Master Plan is followed sooner than later.

Miami sure has changed in the past thirty years. We have gone from a 492 ft. tallest (One Biscayne Tower) to a 794 ft. tallest (Four Seasons Hotel And Tower). Plus the magnificent Wachovia Financial Center which was king from 1984-2003. And their is still more to come.

Here are some more pictures from 1975.

YES DAVE :) , When I was here with My Family in 1964 , Hurricane CLEO Hit and the FOUR AMBASSADORS HOTEL back then was There and little damage was done to the Hotel. It was all 4 buildings a Hotel then. To tell you the truth, I believe it also was there in 1960 When Hurricane DONNA HIT. I was only 6 years old then. :)

Pablo63090
October 20th, 2004, 05:31 AM
The Four Ambassadors was built back in 1967. It was Brickell's first hotel and multi-building complex. But Brickell's first skyscraper was the Brickell Townhouse built back in 1963. It was the tallest residential building in the southeast when built.

Awesome, thanks for the info. The book I have is one of those Florida photography coffee table books from 1984, and next to the pics it says "late 1983" - guess it was a typo. The book also has a lot of pics of the skyline just after the SE Banking Tower was completed so that makes sense.

I took these pictures around 1975.

Notice that the Southeast tower was under construction and the first building on Brickell Key is almost done.

http://home.comcast.net/~fpenagos/wsb/media/689008/site1002.jpg

This one is just passing over Brickell area. Most noticeable building is the first major Arquitectonica building (The Palace). Also was one of the first post-modern buildings that made Miami famous.

WOW DON PACHO, :) Nice PICS, Only one correction, the Two Towers Under Construction in those pics are " THE MIAMI CENTER " Towers, the 35 story Office tower and the 38 story Hotel Intercontinental, I was working with the County there at that time in 1981-82. Check out METRORAIL Trestles going up in the bottoms of those PICS. :)
Remember , The Southeast Bank Building was being built directly accross the street from the OLD Southeast Banking Corp building seen in the Top PIC, The Sotheast Tower was still on the first floor in that PIC. ALSO the Southeast Tower went up all Steel First with the Crane in the Middle.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v506/miami17/flaglerandbiscayne.jpg MIAballinboi: Thank you for showing me how to post pix.

Here is another great one! Miami's first highrise next to the bay. Pix shows the McAllister Hotel under construction circa 1916-17 at the corner of the "Boulevard" Now Biscayne Boulevard and 12 st (now East Flagler Street).

This is now the site of 50 Biscayne (BTW -- I attended a great kickoff party for the tower at Bayfront Park tonight) I love living in these exciting times for our evolving city and skyline.

This view shows Miami as it transitioned from a Village to a City (It was never really a town) This is why it was called the "Magic City". The buildings on the bay were demolished in the early 1920's to make way for fill from the bay bottom and the creation of Bayfront Park and the grand Biscayne Boulevard with rows of Royal Palms.

If these early pioneers could see the skyline now!

I hope you all enjoy this image. Let me know if you would like to see more of Miami's skyline evolution.

There will be two more towers on Brickell Key after Carbonell -- Last parcel on north end of island will have what I think will be called "ASIA" an ultra luxury tower (40 stories tall +/-) with patina clad copper similar to Mandarin Hotel and last parcel on the south will be the last one built, if market forces allow to be know as the Mandarin Residences (Perhaps a condo/hotel type of project)

Amazing old pics. In those '70s and very early '80s pics, Miami's skyline could've passed for Little Rock or Mobile. Even tho Miami's been a big city for many years, it really didn't look it in those pics. The skyline was very modest and unattractive. Thank goodness for all the new construction since. Miami, you've come a long way, baby!

Yep, last parcel just east of Carbonell. They are already taking $50,000 Letters of Interest. Ultra Luxury. It's unnamed yet, but I think it's going to be called "Asia". It is going to be a beauty, as the developer is allowing the architect to be more adventurous in the design. See thru across Miami River towards One Miami, High ceilings, limited number of units. About 30 floors, but with a height of a 40 story building. Lower level clad in patina copper like the mandarin hotel. Being marketed internally to their best customers. May already be completely reserved. I took one of my customers there but he opted for ICE.

Here is a rare shot of One Biscayne Tower with cranes. This is from about 1970-71

Lots more to come. I love to see how our skyline evolved and love to share old images of Miami with those that love our city.

You can also see the First Federal behind the tower with windows being installed. These were are two tallest for many years.

If you take a closer look you can see Miami Dade College being built and the old Alcazar Hotel just before demolition (Yellow building near port entrance)

This view is about 100 years old. It shows Miami as a village with a "growing" skyline. This view is looking south towards Henry Flagler's Royal Palm Hotel (Now site of Met Miami). You can see the spire of the First Presbyterian Church built in 1899. Can you imagine if these early Miami pioneers could see Miami now. Julia Tuttle (Mother of Miami) envisioned Miami as a major city with trading ties to Latin America. I think she would be very proud of our "magical" growth in just over 100 years.

Hope you enjoy this rare image....more to come.

This is an incredible image looking north on Biscayne Blvd towards the Sears Tower. You can see the old Lindsey-Hopkins (Roosevelt Hotel) in the distance. This image was found in Europe and is part of a postcard series published in 1959 in Belgium. Look at all these gas stations...gas was 30.9 cents a gallon. If you look closely you can see the last remaing gas station on the site just south of the Ten Museum parcel. Zoning run-a-muck! Before we know it, this area will be transformed with beautiful gleaming towers.
