From the renders I reckon this is going to look awesome - best apartment project in the city by far in terms of design.

Oriolus

A bigger render
http://www.twhedley.com.au/sanctuary1a.jpg

Some details:
Sanctuary on Flinders constists of a 7 storey building fronting Flinders St, adjacent to the old railway station and a 5 storey building fronting Sturt St. There are 55 apartments in total.

Hopefully this project might give the shops in the Flinders st west area a bit of a kick start. That side of town really needs a boost.

Gertzy
October 20th, 2004, 02:12 PM
True. It's quite dull compared to the other side of Town.

There doesn't seem to be much space in between the two buildings for the pool deck. That is where it's going isn't it?

Oriolus
October 25th, 2004, 11:06 AM
Looking at the plans (http://www.twhedley.com.au/sanctuary-sp2.pdf) you can see where the pool deck is - on either side of the deviation in the site's northern boundary. It looks like part of the raised pool deck is built but the other half isn't. Maybe cause the cranes standing where the other half goes?

I reckon they should've knocked down the Locksmith and Extended the project. Could've had something like 65 units doing so. They could've always add a shop there in the plan to move it back in to its original location. I also Think the Chinese resturant and the Carwash next door will be more popular once tenants move in.

If the Hedley Sturt & Walker st towers go ahead, i doubt there would've been any need to extend this project! Fingers crossed it does go ahead. :D

Gertzy
November 1st, 2004, 12:52 PM
I wonder what type of Crane, Hedley Constructions would be using if It goes ahead. Hopefully It'll be the Tower Crane of Brisbane instead of the T shaped ones they use here.

Wezza
November 1st, 2004, 01:17 PM
I'm just hoping to see any sort of crane there sometime soon! :D

Gertzy

I'm liking the look of this project. Can't wait to see it fininshed, will certainly liven up that end of Flinders St.

Oriolus
February 17th, 2005, 10:38 AM
I'll say. Flinders St West is mostly just one long line of decaying 1 or 2 storey buildings. When the North Yards are developed it'll become a lot better hopefully.

Gertzy
February 17th, 2005, 01:28 PM
The North Yards are just looking like a Prison, maybe if honeycombes added a 12 story building in there and didn't make it look like a Prison, then It'll look good.

Wezza
February 17th, 2005, 01:58 PM
^ More typical Honeycombs developments.........

Oriolus
February 17th, 2005, 03:55 PM
Who's the architech doing all these Honeycombes projects - I seem to remember Fairweather Proberts designed Mint?? (They are also doing One Bright Point)

Gertzy
February 18th, 2005, 08:40 AM
Yeah, Fairweather Proberts have done the last Honeycombes developments since Highpoint.

Wezza
February 21st, 2005, 10:26 AM
Urban Quarter & Highpoint are pretty similar. Even inside the apartments it's easy to tell they have the same architects.

Gertzy
February 21st, 2005, 12:10 PM
To Clarify it. Fairweather Proberts have done:

Townsville:
Highpoint
Urban Quarter
Mint

Brisbane:
Galleria
Ikon (Indroopilly)
Oxygen

Cairns:
Harbour Lights.

I'd like to see a picture with Three Cranes in the CBD Skyline, (say around next Month).

Gertzy
April 9th, 2005, 12:02 PM
Its also a bit of a pity that these buildings weren't say aw well taller :).

Wezza
April 12th, 2005, 11:57 AM
^Yes true! But we have Hedley's big ones to look forward to. :) I'm wondering whether this project is running behind? I can't see them starting T1 until this is finished and i'm sure T1 was supposed to start next month?

Gertzy
April 13th, 2005, 08:16 AM
Yeah, The clearing of the Crappy Santa's Foodmart building. But Construction and Crane/s dont come till August

Oriolus
April 27th, 2005, 04:35 AM
Both buildings of Sanctuary have now topped out I think - they both have the curved roof section on top and the facade is starting to take shape. Can't wait for the finished product, should be fantastic.

Wezza
April 27th, 2005, 10:05 AM
Yeah they're starting to look good!! The sliding doors on the balconies have been installed and it looks like the inside fitout is well advanced.

Gertzy
April 27th, 2005, 12:07 PM
Last time I went by which happened to be yesterday, It looked like it was just Sturt st that Topped out and the Flinders West one was starting to top out.

Wezza
May 10th, 2005, 10:17 AM
Yep, it's looking like it won't be long now til the crane comes down. I noticed the roofing on the Flinders St building was nearing completion today.

Gertzy
May 11th, 2005, 10:55 AM
The renders make it look like the buildings are supposed to be bigger than what they are now.

Wezza
May 11th, 2005, 12:00 PM
^ Maybe the scaffolding is creating a bit of an illusion that it is small at the moment. I was driving down Palmer St today, looking at it thinking that it was standing out a fair bit actually.

Oriolus
May 12th, 2005, 02:18 AM
Some differences in design between render and building are already apparent - look at the dimensions of the white sections and the space where the shutters will go on the Sturt St building.

^ Well spotted!! It looks as though they've put a smaller balcony beside the main balconies. Might be a separate one for main bedroom of something?

Gertzy
May 12th, 2005, 02:16 PM
They have, the render only shows the two main balconies.

The scaffolding is starting to be taken down on this one, so it's getting pretty close to completion.

Oriolus
August 18th, 2005, 03:22 AM
Scaffolding has now been removed from the back & sides of both buildings. Front facades are still being completed however. Hope they still use those wooden lourves - its what makes the renders so great.

I noticed today, the split system airconditioning units on the balconys. I hope they cover them over, it spoils the building a bit. They should've put them out the back IMO.

Gertzy
August 18th, 2005, 01:49 PM
Not long till the crane is taken down now, The back of the Buildings looking quite alright or A.O.K to me

Oriolus
August 31st, 2005, 10:41 AM
The front of the Sturt St building has been revealed (but not the Flinders building). The wooden shutters are great, but its so............short.

Oriolus
September 16th, 2005, 11:40 AM
lol Wezza, when I saw you'd posted in this thread I thought, I bet the crane is on the way down. That's good news cause the Sanctuary crane driver is driving the T1 crane so hopefully T1 can now begin in earnest. Stilll a bit of work to go on Sanctuary yet though.

Gertzy
September 17th, 2005, 11:25 AM
Okay, so looks like T1 can start with a Crane Driver (as Oriolus said before), and completion of Sanctuary is pretty much imminent.

Wezza
September 19th, 2005, 10:04 AM
LOL @ Oriolus!

I saw a truck @ BP truck stop with what looked to be yellow hammerhead crane parts this morning. They looked bigger than the Sanctury crane parts, so maybe they could be more parts for T1? I dunno........

^ Yeah it makes more of an impact than what i would have expected. Certainly not complaining about having this nice little addition. :)

Gertzy
October 7th, 2005, 10:29 AM
Even with some slight changes, it turned out pretty close to the renders and such, but yeah, It'll pave way for Flinders Street West abit in terms of development.

Oriolus

From Saturday's article on T1 in the Bulletin:

Mr Row said demand for units remained strong. Its five and six-level 55-apartment project Sanctuary on Flinders had sold out. That project would be completed in the next couple of weeks and its first residents would start moving in at the end of the month. Good news - another 100+ residents for the CBD.

Gertzy
October 10th, 2005, 05:09 AM
Probably be very surprising to me if all of T1 got sold out before completion, Some of Piermonde's in Cairns is up for sale in the Cairns Post real Estate guide.

Oriolus

Sanctuary really is looking quite sharp - view from Lowth's Bridge:

The ground floor and carparking is still being fitted out but I think we can declare this completed - Townsville's first completed project thread on SSC - yay! :)

Oriolus

Since you bumped the thread Gertzy, I'll throw in another pic. Besides I always get grumpy when there are plenty of contruction shots but then no one bothers to post photos of the completed building. So here's one from the escarpment at the top of Blackwood St just the other day:
