Tampa is the Goth capitol of America from what I have heard.

As far a punk rock in Miami there aren't many. Miami is simply not a punk rock scene.

Miami has an emo/hardcore punk scene (lots of too tight pants). A few years ago there was a ska scene but it died out. Anyhow, lots of people dress punk, whether they go to shows/concerts or not.

Great post. The adjectives are not hackneyed and the sentences are not fragmented. Criticizing a person's spelling or grammar is a form of trolling. I apologize for this post.

Ur right. In fact, that's been the case for a pretty long time. I used to hang out with a couple of Goth guys here in G'ville who would head down to Tampa pretty often. Remember that reoccuring "SNL" skit with Molly Shannon and the 'Mango' guy? They both played Goth teens with their own cable show in Tampa.

OK, maybe I'm showing my age here, but I don't get the Goth scene. Is it built strictly around the "look" (black clothes, pale faces, harsh make up), the music (in the 80s it was Sisters of Mercy and the Cult; don't know what they listen to now), or is there something else that I'm missing?

I'm not criticizing, just curious as to the allure and what makes up this subculture. In the 90s, you would see the Goth crowd in Ybor going to the Castle and the Masquerade. Don't know if this is still the case.

(I realize this has nothing to do with buildings and development, but the topic IS on the table...)

Yes this is still the case... those two same exact clubs too.

Anyway I think part of the allure is the "differentness" of it. A lot of these people were rejected by the "popular crowd" at some point in their life, and so they try to separate themselves are far away from that culture as possible. Also, some people are just drawn to the whole witchcraft, occult, vampire thing, which would lead them to follow such a lifestyle as well.
I myself am not a goth, but I know a couple of people who consider themselves that, and this seems to be the case most of the time from what I can gather.

Odd as it sounds, the Bennigan's in the Tyrone area of St Pete used to have "goth nights" like 3x a week in the back lounge. I know this, because I was friends with the girl who was the hostess. (I'm not into goth, she was a freind through work). The few times some co-workers went up there for the free drinks, the place was PACKED with freaks (many of whom were little hotties. ;))

When that Bennigan's closed and was rebuilt, they did not rebuild it as a huge "flagship" style Bennigan's, so thus no more goth nights.

The Underground in downtown Tampa has Goth nite and if I am not mistaken, its usually punk on the other days. Its a beautiful club too.
