i'm actually happy that it's not residential. i just think we're too conservative when it comes to design. if investors want boxes to maximize space, okay lang, pera nila yan. but pwede naman siguro pagandahin or ibahin kunti, hindi parang mukhang tektite na naman. sino ba yung senador na nagsabing kelangan ng pilipinas ng department of aesthetics? :D

Couldn't have said it better... I guess the silver-lining is that it IS an office building, and with it's slender design, this could look tall at the very least. :D

Simple geometric shapes have been here since time immemorial and it will not be going away anytime soon. Maybe the façade could start to look tired in years, but it can be easily re-clad in a different material, all-glass if ever they may decide. Look at I.M. Pei's Louvre Pyramid; that glass structure has a simple pyramidal shape yet it is so iconic. I see the timeless beauty in RCBC's very basic geometric form that can easily be reinvented with a new façade treatment when the need arises.

^^

Well, the Louvre Museum pyramid definitely looks iconic, as well as any other pyramid... Even the Luxor Hotel in Las Vegas fit the cut... Maybe if this was also a pyramid we will all just shut our holes up... And it's not. No matter what, the developer has already decided the design of this building. But after making the "iconic" siblings (not twins) at Ayala Ave. Surely, they expected some comparison. It's as if Makati has the two pretty sisters, and BGC got the ugliest of the three. Hehehe.

October 10th, 2011, 07:41 AM
^^ This is RCBC Savings Bank, not Rizal Commercial Banking. I guess they may have taken the "Savings" word a bit too seriously. Oh well, it's done and on its way up already.

The pyramid shape is not my point, but it's the simple, basic geometric shape, just like a pyramid. It's a box with a smaller box on top which will never go out of style, in my opinion. Now if only they had it in full glass curtain wall...

i think it looks like a good filler with just enough glass to make it pleasing to look at. although if it were really up to me i would just use one spire. in my opinion only a very tall landmark building such as HK's Bank of China or Chicago's John Hancock or Willis Tower look good rocking a pair of spires/antennas.

The construction of RCBC is really slowing down. Unlike Icon Plaza, RCBC workers do not work at night. There are also few workers. RCBC must have been financially affected by the GA's default.

i don't exactly call this wonderful. This is not in the league of RCBC twins. However I have to agree that this is better than the render.

It did not make use of cement and paint like the other developers where the render clearly showed the facade being glass clad.

I have to disagree with you. The RCBC twin towers in Makati, designed by a Mapuan (though I'm a Mapuan) doesn't look much of 'wonderful' to me. It's rather odd. It doesn't help create a wonderful skyline. Sorry, just my opinion. I like to have a simple yet stunning design.

Though yeah, the design of this new building is not of much either. but still, what more can we ask for? hehe let us just be thankful I guess

yes we all had enough of boxy buildings but the design is not as beautiful as you may think.

humor me

IMHO, the height lacks, it looks fat from the view in LRT. and that small cylindrical design in the top. yeah, i think its the height that lacks that makes it look fat from LRT view.. don't you think? but the trunk design is good, its just the other parts that makes it look less for me. just my opinion

RCBC makes good-looking building, the Makati HQ was by far the best BankHQ in the country; this building although not aestetically pleasing, but needed in the area filled with residential buildings.

IMO:

If they really need to maximize space and make it all "boxy", the Zuellig building and Net Lima served as an inspiration on maximizing space while not looking boring as well.
Anyway, this is a "SAVINGS" bank HQ, you cant fault them for taking the name too literally. (Still looks much better than ANY robinsons clone BPOoffices)

BPI Office in Ayala Avenue pales in comparison to the RCBC Towers in Makati.

RCBC Savings Tower in BGC is even better than BPI office building.

Only PBCom can compete with RCBC Towers as bank HQs IMHO.

PBCom is carried by its height but not its design, and yes, you are absolutely right, the BPIhqs (i count the smaller tower of enterprise to this) are in no equal terms with RCBC buildings, its a shame that Ayala Land controls most of BGC but their own Bank didnt get the benefit of having a suitable HQ there as well, even Globe gets its own BGC piece.

Isnt the GT towers Metrobank as well?

^^ Btw does anybody know what establishment(s) are in that new structure na pumalit sa old Pier 1 site in The Fort as shown in the pick above? Curious lang naman malaman ano and/or anu-ano actually ang pumalit sa Pier 1 resto-bar. TY :)

The spire really contributes a lot positively to the overall look and greatly enhances what would otherwise be a bland albeit glassy design.

I hope the finish of the stripes are the gray and not the white.
