9.16 @12pm Xi'an subway line 2 opens

This is the first subway line in northwest China. Line 2 started construction in September 2006. The opened phase I includes 16 stations, 20.5km long.

By 2018 Xi'an will have a 200km metro system with 6 lines. The long term plan is to build 15 lines 600km metro system.

Line 1: Construction started in Oct 2008, opening in 2013 with 19 stations, 23.9km long
Line 2: Construction started in Sep 2006, phase I opened today, the whole line opens in 2013, 26.4km long
Line 3: Construction started in May 2011, opening in 2015 with 26 stations, 36.3km long (24.4 underground and 11.9 elevated)
Line 4: Construction will start in 2012, opening in 2016, 34.2km long
Line 5: Construction will start in 2013, opening in 2017, 25.7km long
Line 6: Construction will start in 2014, opening in 2018, 35.7km long

Xian Metro is missing in the 'thread finder' thread sticky in the International forum. I've sent a request to add it to the list.

I guess China now has the world's highest number of urban rapid transit systems for a single nation. Please continue posting updates and pics. The modern and ultra-clean metro systems of China are a visual treat!
