I've just been looking at the Gold Coast thread regarding Q1. I know that the CASA height restrictions are 304.5m. Given Q1 was allowed to go up to 322m with a spire, is it ever possible to imagine that one day the stumpy spire above Sydney Tower would be raised from its current height of 309m to 330m and eclipse Q1?

Sydney tower is currently 309m or RL327m (above sea level). CASA has strict controls of Sydney metro at RL330m. So in other words Sydney tower can go up another 3m to 312m.

Well they could apply to CASA for an exemption like Q1 did but Sydney Tower will still be the tallest observation tower after Q1 and Q1 would still be the tallest skyscraper in Australia even if they did extend Sydney Tower so I don't think Westfield would bother.

Could you perhaps enlighten me more in the way of these CASA limits you speak of?

Why/who/what/when/where etc :P.

Thanks, ehehe

Hardly seems worth it

Hardly seems worth itOh yes it does. If the spire goes up a further 3m, it will then officially be 1,023.35ft as opposed to Los Angeles' Library Tower which is 1,018ft.

Height in these matters is the name of the game :)

if you look closer at spire. it already has a lightning rod which increased its height by 4m from 305m back in 1996.
not sure if they would add any more structures?

http://www.suva.com.au/__data/page/205/tower.jpg:? O.K. The spire isn't going up any further then! So the additional 3m was all hypothetical.

Mmmmkaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!
