Just a question
So we are getting some rain these last few days. Its not really a lot but still falling. Its giving people false sense that there is water. Of question how long, how much water would have to fall to take dam levels up major percent ?

i read it will take 5MONTHS of constant downfall (similar to what Sydney is getting now) to get warragamba up to 85% capacity! its never going to happen!
goodnews is that the catchment areas did recieved 30mm over night.

heres some pix of warra

the 3m dia pipes taking water to Prospect'
we need these type of piping to extract the waters from south & north coast down to Sydney, but this project would takes years.

remember though, the Dam was full and the floodgates opened last in February 2002. That isn't that long ago.

That photo from 1968 was, I believe, the first time since construction began that the Dam was full.

It'll take 1 week of rainfall to fill up around 70%

I wouldn't mind if it rained for a whole year, would be nice to see areas of drought revived. The problem with warragamba is that it may fill up but the usage levels are double to that of what it used to be. Considering the population has double and there's a lot of large houses further west with 3 car lots.

Would be nice if there was a water recycle program and water for gardening houses / carwash / pavements etc.. was used only from the recycle storm & rain water reserves. Another great idea to save water is to use domes to slow or even stop evaporation during the heatwave warragamba lost 30-40% of its water and that was only during the 3-4days of the heatwave!

I heard the same thing, all we need is about 1 week of steady rain over the catchement area and this should take the level up to 70%.

Remember all this recent rain will still be emptying into Warragamba over the next few weeks ahead even after the rain stops.

I preferably like to see the dam full.

definitely, well it doesn't matter how many days etc. I saw a documentary on rain recently about the monsoon rains in north India. Basically the amount of rain they get in 1-2weeks eg; Cherrapunji, would be a whole years worth of rain in London.

I think the rainfall in Sydney is quite heavy, a week of constant rain here is a lot.

^^ Hehe. Rain dancng is one of my specialties.

lol CULWULLA. Fart jokes even. Great pics BTW.

Good thing about Sydney water is that it doesn't taste so bad (not that I drink it often). When I lived in Tokyo, I could really taste the chemicals used to treat the water.

i visit this site every day

http://mirror.bom.gov.au/products/IDR032.loop.shtml

its an updated image of rainfall in the sydney area.
its about 12 hours late though. BUT at the moment it looks like a big patch of rain was heading towards the warragamba catchment [directly south of Katoomba and to the left of Camden].. this was at about 2am sunday morning.

another 40mm has fallen over the 9000 square kilometre catchment over the past week! And some more rains are predicted over the weekend. Let's hope the heavier falls are on the ranges.
