The ceremonial ground breaking and laying of the time capsule for the Jose Ch. Alvarez Technology Complex, the new home of Xavier University’s Center for Industrial Technology (XU-CIT) is set on October 13, 2010 at the Manresa Campus along Masterson Avenue in uptown Cagayan de Oro.
The event will also feature the unveiling of the billboard showing the perspective of the project. University officials led by Fr. Jose Ramon Villarin, SJ, Asian Carmakers Corp. Chairman Jose Ch. Alvarez and BMW Asia Managing Director JOhannes Scibert are expected to grace the event.

The facility, which is scheduled for completion in 2011, aims to develop the skills of deserving Filipino students and give them an opportunity to eventually become part of a competent labor force both here and abroad.
Moreover, the JCA Technology Complex will have Automotive Technology as part of its curriculum. This likewise gives students the option to undergo further training at any of the BMW dealerships and eventually get absorbed into the company.
Xavier University’s Center for Industrial Technologies currently offers four vocational courses with a population of 600 students. This number is expected to increase significantly with the additional P72.3 million support for the construction of two new buildings.

Asian Carmakers Corporation (ACC), the official distributor of BMW cars in Philippines, under the leadership of its chairman, Mr. Jose Ch. Alvarez, and Xavier University officially anounced the construction of the Jose Ch. Alvarez (JCA) Technology Complex, the new home of Xavier University-Center for Integrated Technologies (XU-CIT), during a ceremonial groundbreaking on October 13, 2010.
The facility aims to develop the skills of deserving Filipino students and give them the opportunity to eventually become a part of a competent labor force, not only here in the Philippines, but in international industries as well.
Currently, Xavier University’s Center for Integrated Technologies has four technical-vocational courses being offered with 600 enrolled students. With the additional support of P72.3 million for the construction of two new buildings, the student population is expected to grow significantly.
The JCA Technology Complex will offer Automotive Technology as one of its courses and students enrolled in this program have the option to undergo training at different BMW dealerships.
The JCA Technology Complex will be built on a 2.3 hectare lot inside the Manresa Campus, fronting Pueblo de Oro’s IT Business Park near Concentrix. The proposed XU-CIT facilities will span a potential gross floor area of 3,780 square meters excluding sports amenities. It will house classrooms, laboratories and workshops, a canteen, a library, an auditorium, as well as administration offices, and other utilities and services. This modern technological education facility will assume completion by the end of 2011.
The building concept incorporates green architecture and environment design to provide a more stimulating teaching and learning environment for the students and employees. Green designs concern building management, materials and building performance, energy and resource consumption, and innovation for environmental sensitivity. The eco-friendly design concept of the JCA Technology Complex demonstrates Xavier University’s commitment to a sustainable environment, and the health and safety of its stakeholders.
BMW Asia, the regional office of ACC, has also agreed to support Mr. Alvarez’ venture by donating advanced training modules which will be incorporated in the curriculum of the school.
This also coincides with the formal announcement of the soon to be constructed BMW Dealership in Cagayan de Oro which is across the street of the JCA Technology Complex. Graduates of the technical facility have the opportunity to undergo on the job training at the future BMW Dealership and eventually get absorbed into the company.

XAVIER University has signed a construction contract for two new buildings of the Center for Integrated Technologies (CIT) to be erected at the Manresa campus. The contract was awarded to H&R Construction Corp. and was signed on Sept 2 at the Magis Student Complex. Project management will be handled by SP Castro Inc.. "The mandate of the Board [of Trustees] is to develop Manresa as the new campus," said Fr. Roberto Yap, president of Xavier University. "The CIT buildings will be the first structures in the new campus we hope to develop."
Further, Yap said the con-struction of the buildings is timely and relevant in anticipation of the K+12 program. CIT, as a technical unit, is being poised as a viable career-bound track for students to pursue within the additional two years of high School. "Xavier is equipped to do both [college-bound and career-bound] tracks because of CIT," said Yap.
Engr. Erwin LI, CIT director, said the new facilities would contribute much in shaping the technical Education role of CIT in Misamis Oriental. CIT has just recently changed its name from the Center of Industrial Technology to the Center for Integrated Technologies in accordance with its thrust to expand its programs and embrace a multidisciplinary approach to technology. "We hope that the realization of the buildings will solidify our plans for XU-CIT in the coming years," Li said.
The buildings would house classrooms, laboratories and workshops, canteen, library, auditorium and administration offices. One of the two buildings is targeted to be completed this December.

http://www.xu.edu.ph/images/stories/SY%202011/CITbuild.jpg
Xavier University (XU) marked the construction of two new buildings of the Center for Integrated Technologies (CIT) at the Manresa campus with a blessing and foundation laying ceremony on Sept 28.
The two new CIT buildings are part of a larger plan to develop Manresa as the new XU campus. The new structures will house classrooms, laboratories and workshops, canteen, library, auditorium and administration offices.
University Chaplain Rev Fr Calvin Poulin SJ, who presided the Blessing, remarked that the buildings being erected signify Xavier’s continuing service to the Church and the country. He acknowledged the expansion of CIT, which started out being a small vocational-technical school but has now grown to have its own complex in Manresa.
CIT is a technical unit of XU that aims to address the industrial needs of the region for competent technicians. It provides alternative education opportunities for students who favor more technical and practical skills.

i think project should have a separate thread because BMW is involved in this project and the students here have a huge chance of being absorbed by BMW, which is known to be a luxurious car company from Germany.

I have read an article in of the major national newspapers (which, unfortunately, I wasn't able to save) about 10 years ago while inflight heading to Manila, mentioning Xavier University as the richest among all Ateneo schools. While many will vehemently challenge this, I could find a drop of truth to this claim. Xavier University charges the lowest tuition fees among all Ateneo's, while still being able to offer world-class research facilities and student-friendly amenities. And XU is the only Ateneo school aside from Ateneo de Manila to consistently figure in the list of Top 10 Philippine Universities, and became one of the few Philippine universities to make it into the elite list of Asia's best.

Tuition fees, obviously, are the primary source of funds especially with private shools. Ikaduha lang ang mga endowments. The premise, though, that the higher a school charges a tuition fee, the better the quality of education, is non-conclusive. Yes, maybe, because it's used to acquire more facilities and maintain a top-quality teaching force. But Xavier is an exception. Although XU is charging the lowest fees among all Ateneo schools, it does not run short of excellent academic facilities and good professors/researchers to consistently put the school on top of its game. Kayahon ra nya one expansion after another. And research studies sa Xavier is also top-notch, mao cguro nga naa sya respectable slot sa Webometrics survey, which is based in Spain tungod sa ya available research work and materials which are featured in its website...Kining bag-o na CIT project is a solid testament of Xavier's liquidity as well as a committment to offer only the best education quality possible...

.... sorry po..wrong assumption. Fr. Samson was actually requested by the ADDU board to Davao because there was an Ongoing labor problem with the then President Fr. Martinez. Fr. Martinez then was not able to control the teachers because at that time. Fr. Samson also was the aDDU president prior to his transfer to XU.
At that time also Fr. Samson was able to receive a grant from the USAId/JICA (1990, and 1992) and Canadian aid (1993) in upgrading the school (ADDU) before he was transferred to XU, hence the numerous renovations, programs and educational exchanges that happened.

cemby October 9th, 2011, 03:30 PM ngaNo gaNi nag labor problEm anf addu?
Fr. Martinez upon entering ADDU was according to the teachers become unreachable. The teachers apparently had to pass through a "cordon" of people before even talking to him (well, it was not the fault of Fr. Martinez, he just happened to come into ADDU with the wrong side I guess). The teachers became alienated and then gradually even the rank and file. in early part of 2000, the teacher's unrest became evident that in 2003 and 2004 a lot of teacher walk outs became regular.....hence the clamor for the return of Fr. Samson. (Fr. Samson has very long ties with ADDU since his early jesuit life revolved around ADDU also hence Fr. Samson's Affinity with ADDU was solid).
BarPa October 10th, 2011, 03:50 AM Pardon my intrusion mga bay, but Ateneo schools all around the Philippines, IMO, should be working hand in hand to achieve their goals as one. Though some of us may think that it is unfair but for others, helping other branch/sister schools is the right thing to do. After all, the downfall of one Ateneo school may create inconsistencies as far as Ateneo standard is concern. Again, IMO lang! Mas nindot paminawon maski asa nga Ateneo, muangat in their respective fields and than mkaingon ta, ana jud na basta ATENEAN (regardless kung asa na Ateneo).

You don't have to dig deeper to analyze the whole sitution. For a university to consistently place in the rankings without hurting much the pockets of its students is already a feat.

What makes XU unique in terms of Construction? Here, other ateneo schools are busy constructing buildings with lucrative designs while XU opts to maintain sustainable and environmental buildings, thats why the Sustainability team sa XU kay ge creat to make research and related studies para sa kaayuhan sa environment not only in CDO but in the entire Mindanao, even WORLD. In fact, former president Fr.Villarin gepatwag sa UN to measure the pollution level sa EUROPE, basta smething atmosphere related.
Mao ra jud ni ako maingon, dili jud magmatter ang ka nice sa building kay na burag lang INIT kaau nang puro glass lang, hehe. watch out lang ta, Pueblo will be the main campus if XU very soooon. ug ang 8 hectare na main campus will serve for Graduate Studies,Medicine and Law. As what my friend(head of the research and sustainability team) said, XU will be known as RESEARCH UNIVERSITY in the Philippines. burag lang halos course na karon naay thesis... nabuang na gani mi. hehehe

hmmm... ayoko sanang patulan.. but the truth is it is still ADMU.... consider the real estate property (loyola heights) they are holding... it is found in one of the more high end areas in QC and the property market in that area is very high daw compared to the acres in XU... plus the Ateneo school for Business in Rockwell in Makati and Ortigas (obviously the property market in this areas are very very very high) and the ASMPH property, also in Ortigas which was donated by the Lopezes..... (got this from my mentor, a jesuit himself).....BUT in the end... all of these properties (ADMU, XU, ADDU, ADNU, ADI-Sta Maria, ADC-Sacred Heart, Xavier school, ADZU) still belong to one major religious organization, thus there is no competition of schools for being who is rich. I believe we have to respect the organization kung saan nila gusto ilagay ang pera...kasi at the end of the day, most of its earnings still go to the organization..... (respeto na lang tayo pls)
It is the privy of the Jesuit Superior General with concurrence of the Jesuit Provincial as to where they want Fr. Jett Villarin to go to and they will keep on rotating their priests where they like to send them. For example, one of my favorite teachers +Fr. Rooney+ was for the longest time stayed in Davao but was transferred to XU then ADNU... Fr. Emeterio Barcelon was a long time resident of ADDU as president but was transferred to XU also... Most often these priests have to rotate. In fact, Fr. Jose Cecilio Magadia was initially at XU high then was appointed by the then Jesuit superior general to become the Davao rector and later appointed again to become the Jesuit Provincial
About the matter of Fr. Villarin, he explicitly stated in one of our discussions/fora in ADMU that he was only part of the team since he had the credentials. The Nobel peace prize he earned was not just his, but also with other people who were also scientists from other countries of which he was collaborating with.
XU is forging ahead with its mission and vision, and so are other Ateneos. it just dumbfounds me to learn that people compare these Ateneo schools as to who is richer, wiser etc because at the end of the day, all Ateneos in the Philippines are striving for excellence to make each and every student a person for others.....All Mindanao Ateneos are mandated by the Jesuits to Share resources. In short, even if they are independent, the so called Mindanao Consortium of Ateneo schools was established for this purpose. (walang swapangan ika nga ng Jesuit friend ko) AMDG

You know what I'm tired of Emano. But since Oca is the opponent two years from now, then I might still vote for Emano. I'd like to see Rufus to run for a mayor instead of Moreno.
