View Full Version : RIP
Karavia October 7th, 2011, 06:02 PM He may be not Congolese but I would like to pay respect to Steve Jobs. Below the first "Think diffrent" commercial he narrated but this has never been aired:
Here’s to the crazy ones.
The misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers.
The round pegs in the square holes.
The ones who see things differently.
They’re not fond of rules.
And they have no respect for the status quo.
You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them.
About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them.
Because they change things.
They push the human race forward.
While some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius.
Because the people who think they are crazy enough to change the world…
are the ones who do.
BUTEMBO21 October 7th, 2011, 09:40 PM RIP indeed. :(

This is a serious accusation you are making in a most disrespectful way…Can you please provide us hard proof as to the involvement of Steve Job (Apple) in the exploitation of blood coltan in the DRC, knowing that the DRC is not an important producer of this mineral? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coltan

preme3000 October 8th, 2011, 12:07 AM whether people agree or not, young po is right.
preme3000 October 8th, 2011, 12:22 AM There has been various reports over the years concerning the links between certain tech companies and the situation in the east. Apple has been mentioned in all the reports that I have come across but maybe due to the timing and death of Steve Jobs another thread would be more appropiate to discuss this matter with some reports and facts at hand.
Either way, its a hard pill to swallow but it would sadly appear that some Congolese are not aware of the matter so how in the hell will the rest know?
young po October 8th, 2011, 12:49 AM Preme3000 according to the Economist Apple has stopped buying blood coltan in 2010 due to the Dodd-Frank banking act in USA...

I thought you guys knew about Apple dark side .... I didn't know it was something new for you guys, so sorry for my tough attitude on you. :)
preme3000 October 8th, 2011, 01:21 AM  These companies are no dummies Po. That is all I can say without looking like a conspiracy theorist.
They know exactly what they are doing but it can make someone appear crazy with conspiracy theories without hard evidence to back it up.
BUTEMBO21 October 8th, 2011, 01:29 AM So you guys don't use Cell Phones and Laptops, Ipods at all?

Aah we live in a strange world, our coltan is getting out of the country for free but no one is using it....
Ppl don't be mistaken, of course I give credit to Jobs as one of the best entrepreneur but that's not my point....
young po October 8th, 2011, 02:08 AM Everyone uses laptops, phones etc
When I was in Belgium back in the 90's, I met a congolese guy in the bus, he got caught travelling without a valid ticket.
He told the policeman that the King Leopold has stolen Congo's natural resource in order to build monument and finance Belgium's public service. Therefore he has the right to travel around the city for free until Belgium reimburse its debt to Congo.
I guess this guy is claiming a new free Ipad
GZT October 8th, 2011, 04:48 AM You're blaiming Steve Jobs for exploiting Congo... May be so.. but shouldn't your government be in control of who or what is operating in its borders?
So I guess the Congolese gov't must agree with the policies of Steve Jobs and his coltan stealing gang?
And the govt should represent the people? You?
BUTEMBO21 October 8th, 2011, 05:29 AM If I use your kids as slave labourers I am gonna get a medal that's it?
Answer the question.
BUTEMBO21 October 8th, 2011, 05:53 AM Everyone uses laptops, phones etc
But why those who are opposed to bloody Coltans use the devices then? Shouldn't they be setting examples by STOP USING the devices?
Besides; Our country isn't the only country to produce this mineral. But we are the largest source for cheap mineral due to obvious reasons. So how do we know he only uses our minerals? and who is responsible for making sure our minerals aren't bloody anymore?
Anyways. The guy started his technological mastership longtime ago. moking him make no sense , IMO.

I believe you can answer that question yourself. This line of logic does not help and takes away from what the actual issue is. For example, its very easy for me to say; why do people who oppose Kagame live in the USA? A country that sponsored and made possible his adventures into DRC. Should they not set an example and get out of the USA? That is where that kind of logic will lead us.

The issue for me is the lack of awareness, not to do with mocking a dead man. I have been careful in what I said in previous posts so I hope I did not appear to be mocking a dead man, all human life should be valued. Everyone is free to google this issue, it is not just coltan that these companies have or had been accused of sourcing. Some google research on this issue will enable people to come to their own independent conclusions.
and who is responsible for making sure our minerals aren't bloody anymore? Again, you know the answer and you know my position on the DRC government has been clear and precise from day one.

Your questions are valid.
The answer to the questions you pose is the DRC government.
I have said in other threads many times, I don't blame anyone or country for looking after their own interests when dealing with DRC. The weak will always be exploited.
However, it should not discourage people from sharing information and showing the other side of the coin just because it is not the fashionable thing to do.
BUTEMBO21 October 8th, 2011, 02:19 PM I believe you can answer that question yourself.
My question is to the opponent forumers in this very thread (RIP).
young po October 13th, 2011, 12:23 AM My question is to the opponent forumers in this very thread (RIP).
As Preme3000 said your question is just demagogic at this rate if we stretch no one is accountable for anything....
By the way I don't use Apple I am anti copyright/free software...
