Old street to be revived

DAVAO CITY -- The Oroderm Group of Companies is building a shopping strip on Claro M. Recto Ave., one of oldest commercial streets in this city, as part of its commitment to bring back trading in this section of the downtown.
This will be the second project of the company after it set up a hotel and a medical center at the corner of Claro M. Recto and Rizal St. that opened early this year, said Dr. Neil S. Oropesa, president and chief executive officer of the family-owned firm.

The new project, which is expected to be finished by the end of the year, will rise on a 3,800-square-meter lot that would also host a small shopping mall and a hotel.

“I personally want to revive this street,” Mr. Oropesa said of Claro M. Recto St., a short stretch of old shops and banks.

The company has already made its mark on this street with its 50-room, three-storey Blue Velvet Hotel and Cafe and the Oroderm Medical Center which mainly provides skincare services.

The company already has about 40 branches of Oroderm Clinic in different parts of the country and operates Oroderm Beauty Hotel at this city’s Pichon St. The company also has its own plant for its beauty products in the province of Laguna.

Mr. Oropesa noticed that the “street was already dying” even when it was among the busiest in previous decades.

“I thought maybe I could revive it by investing in properties [in the area],” he said.

“We will invite [food stall operators near the area] to locate to our mall to ensure their security and offer them better atmosphere,” he added.

Although some of his relatives warned him in investing in the area considering that there are big malls in the city, Mr. Oropesa said pedestrian traffic keeps the site attractive. -- C. Q. Francisco

Hindi kuya. Kasi may mga spaces din sa Abreeza si Felcris for its franchised brands like Sanuk, Bayo, Figaro, to name a few.

Ah ok. Cla diay ang franchisee sa mga brands na yan. Thanks for the update. :okay: I know before the specialty shops came to Davao like Rustan's, Felcris & Chimes had it already. In fact, I would wait for their sale on items like Lacoste, Cole Haan, Bally or Florsheim in Felcris-Sales. Though before that, Davao A&M was the most fave for those who are into imported and branded wares. :)

eheheh thats ok...atleast added info. well, to give us an idea of how this project may turn out, let's look at the previous projects of the Oropesa family. How's Oroderm Beauty Hotel doing ba? Is it well kept? How about the Blue Velvet Hotel and Cafe?

Come to think of it, once completed, this will be Oropesas' third hotel in the city.

I dont like the name too...if he really likes to use the brand of his company, imo, drop the "city" and just make it Oroderm. Then the arcade will be divided into several components such as "the clinic", "the hotel", "shops". :D

your wish is his command. he mentioned to me about a month ago that after oroderm city, may highrise project sya na naka lineup sa kanyang portfolio. although he did not divulge the location, he said meron ng property for that and he will build it with the help of some investors. abangan! :okay:

Wow...thats good kuya! Something worth watching out for. Anyway, if Oroderm will be a low to midrise complex, I wish it will be similar to Paseo De Legaspi. I really find it classy kc.

let's hope he pulls this off well. an 8-storey hotel will be the centerpiece of this project. as to the commercial spaces, may isang sure tenant na daw- mcdonalds. :lol:

This is commendable effort of Neil Oropesa. I for one love to see the old Claveria getting a face lift for old times sakes. Claveria was our Matina or Bajada back in the days. :D

well he started the face of Mario ... the hotel! :lol: ganahan ko sa faceliftng sa mga old Chinatown bldgs it started with old Chinese consulate and now old warehouses/bldgs. near Sta. Ana Wharf and areas near Agdao, mostly plain fresh paint and a little remodelling but no new materials (e.g. Aluminum cladding) :)

I wish Neil would buy the whole Claveria and restore old and build new buildings there....
Lately I was imagining for the local government to give away free gallons and gallons of light colored paints to every household and paint their rusty roof out and make it look newer from the aerials. :lol:

so we would rename Claveria to Beauty St. :lol: ,well if i'm not mistaken the City of Tagum have an ordinance to repaint their facade just like what they did with their tricycles, but if Mayor Duterte will impose her will to paint the buildings in green maybe i'll stick to the "rustic" effect. :lol:

Not a bad idea to beautify a place and people and mix them together lol.
Green is still good for me than the third-worldish connotation visitors will get from the rusty roofings everywhere. :lol:

the 4-storey and 7-storey buildings will be several meters higher than street level because of a semi-basement carpark which can accommodate about 100 vehicles.

the 7-storey building will be the hotel and will have a high ceiling (equivalent to about two floors) in its lobby level. in other words, equivalent to 10 storeys ang hotel building kung inaton by SSC standards. :rofl:

Not yet. What you are seeing are just two of four buildings to make up the complex. A four storey commercial building will be constructed behind the building on the left of your screen and an eight storey hotel will be constructed at the back.

I know there are nice projects in the northern part of the city and big ones. But having this sa downtown is also good, coz it only means na d rin iniiwanan ang downtown area...the area itself is a tourist destination and it's good that it will soon have this lifestyle enclave.

yan na ba yung along C.M. Recto Ave., ung malapit sa Blue Velvet? Naalala ko kasi yung andiyan ako nung Kadayawan last year, kinausap ako ng owner, may gagawa siya na bagong hotel na mix-used ang dating ng project along that road. He's such simple person. :okay:
