archifreese July 1st, 2006, 06:36 PM it doesnt change hourly, but it can be changed daily. the lights are on theroofs of neighboring buildings and on the terraces as the tower sets back. they use massive gel lenses that give the color and any combination is possible depending on the layout of the lights.

spellbound July 2nd, 2006, 10:47 AM All great shots, umiami, but that one looking straight up from ground level...WOW!
I should add here how much I appreciate all the great photography from so many of you on a regular basis. It is TRULY appreciated!
SayHelloToMyLilFrein July 2nd, 2006, 02:00 PM no it does not change color hourly lol Ussually but not always it seems to be a different color every night. For example oround chistmas they will have it either red and green or blue with giant white snow flacks on it.Halloween they have it orange fourth of july red white and blue and so on.they also choose random colors dailey. The way it works is they have different colors of giant tints that they slide over the sides of the buildings lights that piont upward.........................................................................The building is a speacial color and material that reflects the light and make it apear all litt up............................................................................................................................................................Its really very smart and unussual.A typical Miamian like me born and raised never notices it and takes it for granted. When I was little i remember i used to be fasinated with it. Hey thanx for apeciating this really original building. One of these develepers needs to build somthing with a simalar concept with an even grander scale. Aaahhh that would be nice.
Toucano July 5th, 2006, 05:12 AM Nice Job Umiami305
Guy Legend July 8th, 2006, 11:34 PM Wow, that's a very cool looking building. :okay:
Roark July 9th, 2006, 06:14 PM xxx
Roark July 9th, 2006, 06:15 PM they also choose random colors dailey. The way it works is they have different colors of giant tints that they slide over the sides of the buildings lights that piont ward......The building is a speacial color and material that reflects the light and make it apear all litt up......Its really very smart and unussual.A typical Miamian like me born and raised never notices it and takes it for granted.Yeah, it's a great building IM Pei rocks. Archi had it exactly right, many of the uplights are on the roofs of the neighboring building and they point up at the structure. The default color is white, but with gel lenses over the lamps, the color is changed. This is very apparant from the Metro Mover as you are at a slightly higher level than the lamps on the west side of the building.
It's never random though, and that adds more beauty to it. While driving by on a day that wasn't March 17th the building was green and it looked amazing, but I couldn't figure out why it was green....green and orange is typicall of a Miami Dolphin's game. A couple of days later, I was told that the Ocean Drive party that was held in the Bank of America (Centrust) building that day was sponsered by Heineken.

Downtown tower celebrates Jamaica's independence
BY ROBIN M. PEGUERO
rpeguero@MiamiHerald.com
In commemoration of Jamaica's 44th Independence anniversary celebrations, the Bank of America Tower at International Place in downtown Miami will illuminate in the colors of the Jamaican flag - black, gold and green - tonight at dusk.
While this is not unusual for the 47-floor, Miami landmark to be lit for special events in Miami, it is exceptional that the lighting will remain throughout the weekend into Tuesday morning.
The commemoration is a tribute to the economic and social impact of South Florida's large Jamaican-American community.
samsonyuen August 4th, 2006, 10:56 PM Beautiful. I like the versatility of the lighting.
JuanPaulo August 5th, 2006, 01:15 AM In my opinion one of the best lit scrapers in the world. Maybe second only to The Centre in Hong Kong. My favorite is the Christmas decoration with the snow flakes. Ive also seen stars attached to the building for 4th of July and other holidays. My all time favorite, as i remember it when I was a kid, was ont time they projected the image of Mona Lisa on the buildings facade. It was superbe. Too bad there are no available pics of this event. Love BOA Tower!!! Here is my contribution to the thread :)

arch photographer August 5th, 2006, 02:32 AM WOW You guys are killing me. You are so lucky to have that going on every night. Again as an observer from outside, in NYC, another reason that Miami is so special is because that palette that is employed for lighting everything is a spectral palette. Red orange yellow green blue indigo violet. Think of BOA and the violet and the pink causeways, it's absolutely beautiful. Most other American cities use a "patriotic" palette or a primary palette. Because one of Miami's greatest assets is the light, the crystal colorful tropical light, it is such a perfect support to that truth to use spectral colors when lighhting buildings. I can't wait to see ho all of the new buildings will be lit. When i think of my dreamhouse in Miami, it is more important what I'm looking out at, than the building or unit I am in, I can't wait.

soup or man August 11th, 2006, 04:56 AM Damn...LA has a building that has a similar shape ass BOA. That would be the 777 Tower. It's usually lit white but for Xmas, it's red, white, and green.
Paul305 August 11th, 2006, 07:29 AM I found a pic of the 777 Tower. I had no idea this building existed but Threehundred is right, it does resemble the BOA Tower a lot.

Yeah, but that might not be a recent pic.

jamesgood72 September 4th, 2006, 12:16 AM What's the deal with the bridge lighting? I take it they are having major problems with it. It comes, and then it goes again. It's a shame neither of the bridges have had the lighting for the past year, it was such a cool part of the Miami skyline. Seems like things are happening in Miami time with respect to getting it fixed.

betto8677 August 4th, 2007, 04:56 AM Man how i loved to see that building when i lived in Miami. The most Tradicional color is white. There are two buildings here in São Paulo that look a little like the Bank of america tower and the Wachovia financial. :

Looks like we will need to change the name of this thread
Iconic color-shifting downtown tower takes Miami's name
By Yudislaidy Fernandez
Downtown's iconic 47-story color-changing office tower, one of Miami's most photographed buildings, is dropping a bank from its name for the first time in its 22 years.
With Bank of America's exit, naming and signage are up for grabs as it becomes Jan. 1 simply Miami Tower.
A team is trying to replace Bank of America, offering signage and naming for a lease of 80,000 square feet in the 600,000-square-foot tower, says leasing agent Tony Puente.
But it's a task to find a tenant that big when many are downsizing and competition is stiff as three office towers rise nearby. For one thing, candidates are few. An observer, leasing agent Brian Gale, says the nearby Brickell financial corridor houses fewer than 10 80,000-square-foot tenants today.
The plus, Mr. Gale says, is that the landmark, known for illuminating three glass tiers with colors reflecting holidays and special events and for its many TV cameos, can offer both signage and naming. Many buildings have a bank tenant's name up top, he explained, but that doesn't mean it has naming rights.
Until Dec. 31, it's still Bank of America at International Place. The bank is vacating its 50,000 square feet to consolidate at 701 Brickell Ave., where it also has signage and is the anchor, occupying 80,000 square feet.
"In a landlord's market, [a leasing agent] might be able to charge" for display rights, Mr. Gale says. "In a tenant's market, you are probably not going to charge. You are going to save it for a large tenant."
That's what the soon-to-be Miami Tower's leasing agent Mr. Puente, senior vice president of Fairchild Partners, is hoping to do: attract users, possibly from the banking and finance sector, looking for a South Florida spotlight. Largest tenants now in the 86% full building are law firm Carlton Fields at 90,000 square feet, UBS Financial with 35,000 and Vector Group at 14,000.
The City of Miami owns the land under the tower, its 10-story garage and ground-floor retail, which it's been trying to sell for more than a year due to losses.
When the skyscraper at 100 SE Second St. opened in 1987, signage belonged to signature tenant CenTrust, noted Vince Croce, senior property manager. The bank kept the rights but the name changed as CenTrust was acquired by NationsBank, which then merged with BankAmerica Corp.
The downside to offering naming and signage to a signature tenant, Mr. Gale said, is that it becomes harder to lease to competitors. But if a large tenant would fill most available space, the case at the soon-to-be Miami Tower, the risk is minimal, he said.
Safest tenants for this type of deal are generally banks, Mr. Gale added, because they typically occupy the entire retail space at ground level.
"It's a very nice thing to offer a tenant, but you have to be careful who you offer it to."

perwil3356 October 17th, 2011, 09:40 PM Can you imagine having buildings that look like Epic and Miami Tower comprising all of your downtown.
QuantumX October 17th, 2011, 11:29 PM Miami Tower and Wells Fargo maybe.

QuantumX October 18th, 2011, 12:18 PM These two are from Memorial Day and the Heat playoffs respectively. The Miami tower should be white and purple again for Art Basal, and then we have the holiday season. I think they should just leave it blue with the snowflakes in order to keep everybody happy.

You can see them at the bottom here as well, all lit up. I didn't notice them there before. It's easy to mistake them for lighted windows.
