It's not SAA that's expensive, it's the commercial viability or lack thereof that makes it expensive. They're actually one of the cheapest for overseas flights I've found

SAA is usually the cheapest on long haul routes to Europe & Asia. It does however ask too much for local flights, but fortunately competition is growing.

No any basic reason its depend on flying time person visited there too more, as well as more flayers quantity increases flights fare also increased.
