Scud dumps Delta for Paris

Crushing blow: Mark Philippoussis with Delta Goodrem at the Olympic Games in August.

MARK Philippoussis has dumped Delta Goodrem for heiress Paris Hilton.

Party princess Hilton, 23, is in love with tennis ace Philippoussis, and yesterday confirmed they are a couple.

Hilton also delivered a crushing blow to Goodrem, claiming Scud dropped the singer because she bored him.

"I've got a new man and I'm head over heels in love," Hilton said late yesterday.

"I adore him, he's so hot. His name is Mark Philippoussis."

Hilton made the shock revelations during a shopping spree in West Hollywood.

She and sister Nicky were acting as personal shopping guides for two competition winners from Melbourne.

The two won a competition run by a national clothing chain and their prize was to have Nicky and Paris Hilton as guides in Los Angeles for a day.

Project organiser James Young said shoppers were stunned when Hilton named Philippoussis, then showed off an SMS photo of him.

Beach-bound Philippoussis was topless and wearing a pair of board shorts.

Young, managing partner of creative agency SEE, said Hilton sent a text message to say she was with shoppers from Scud's hometown.

Philippoussis replied with his own text.

"Aw," Paris sighed. "He thinks it's really sweet. I love him, I love him, I love him."

Hilton's publicist Richard Squire and Kylie Speer, of See, were reportedly gobsmacked when Hilton dropped the bombshell.

She declared her new love while in a Guess Jeans store at LA mall The Grove.

When told Philippoussis was dating Goodrem, Hilton replied: "Not any more. That is completely over.

"Mark says after a while it became obvious Delta was too boring," Hilton said.

Asked if she would join the tennis circuit's cheer squad, Hilton giggled: "I hope so. I can't wait."

The revelation follows a week of denials then silence from Goodrem on her relationship with Philippoussis.

"We have an overseas relationship," Goodrem said recently.

"It's a long distance relationship, which, of course, is hard. But everything is fine."

Last week, Philippoussis's trainer said the tennis player planned to move to California to regenerate his career.

While with Goodrem his tennis ranking sank from No. 9 to 81.

"He is moving back here to work out," fitness adviser Markus Heon said.

It is also closer to Hilton's base in Beverly Hills.

Paris Hilton, hotel chain heiress, has been romantically linked to actors Leonardo DiCaprio, Edward Furlong, Jared Leto and boxer Oscar de la Hoya. Hilton split with former Backstreet Boy, Nick Carter, in July.

She had a holiday fling with Australian Idol finalist, Rob Mills, during last year's Spring Racing Carnival.

Hilton also starred in a sex video released by another former lover, Rick Salomon.

The Scud's list of priors is equally impressive.

He has dated Anna Kournikova, US actor Tara Reid and models Tania Zaetta and Susie Thorne.

Goodrem is in London this week promoting her single Out of the blue - a love song about Scud.

Philippoussis and Goodrem began dating in January after she thanked him for sending flowers during her illness.

Goodrem supported him from the stands at the Australian Open and Wimbledon.

Delta Goodrem hurt by Paris Hilton fling

DELTA Goodrem is devastated by revelations Mark Philippoussis has been cheating on her with American socialite Paris Hilton. "Delta is really upset," a source close to the Goodrem family said.

http://www.heraldsun.news.com.au/common/imagedata/0,1658,390693,00.jpg
Happy couple: Delta Goodrem and Mark Philippoussis.

A close friend told the Herald Sun Goodrem would not be ringing Philippoussis to talk about the scandal.

"She has too much class to bother talking to him," the friend said.

Paris Hilton revealed at the weekend she was having a relationship with Philippoussis.

"I've got a new man, and I'm head over heels in love," she said.

"I adore him, he's so hot. His name is Mark Philippoussis."

Producing an SMS mobile phone photo of Philippoussis in board shorts, Hilton then said her new beau had broken up with Goodrem because she was "boring".

While Philippoussis, 27, is wooing the 23-year-old hotel heiress, Goodrem is in London promoting her new single a love song about the Scud.

Goodrem's mum, Lea, was preparing to fly to London to comfort Delta, 19, who is heartbroken over her shattered nine-month romance.

A defiant Mark Philippoussis yesterday refused to talk about his actions.

Philippoussis repeatedly refused to deny he had been involved with Hilton.

"You will just write what you want," he said.

"I'm not going to say anything. I have nothing to say now."

Philippoussis then happily chatted about the four hours of surfing he has every day, his plan to skip a coming tennis tournament in Stockholm, and his desire to win a Grand Slam and his training.

He finished the conversation by saying "if you look after me I will look after you".

It is believed Delta Goodrem and her family were especially surprised Philippoussis had been involved with Hilton, a notorious man-eater.

"I mean, Paris Hilton of all people," an insider said. "If it was a nice girl – but Paris Hilton?"

Hilton has been linked to actor Leonardo DiCaprio, boxer Oscar de la Hoya and finalist Robert Mills.

Yesterday Lea Goodrem would not comment about her daughter, but it is believed Goodrem's relationship with the Melburnian had been on the rocks for almost a fortnight after a story appeared about a photo of Philippoussis and another woman, taken in California.

The woman, known only as Brooke, is a friend of Philippoussis from Cardiff-by-the-Sea, just north of San Diego where Philippoussis spends time surfing and socialising. In the past two weeks, Goodrem suspected something may have been going on with Philippoussis when she was unable to contact him several times.

It is believed the Goodrem family is furious with Philippoussis, especially at a time when she has to face the public, heavily promoting a new album.

"He knew she had these commitments," the was told.

"It's awful. She is a really happy girl and everything was going so well and now this."

Goodrem and Philippoussis started dating in January when she was recovering from her well-publicised battle with Hodgkin's disease.

Philippoussis sent Goodrem flowers and initially the singer's family was impressed with the good-looking Davis Cup winner and Wimbledon and US Open runner-up.

"In the initial honeymoon period he was really nice," a friend of the family said. "But I think she fell for him when she was vulnerable."

A friend of the singer said she had no doubt Goodrem would get over the upset.

"This will make her stronger, she will spend some time thinking and dissecting this and will them move on.

"She has got over much more than this."

Just who is really guilty of deception in the Philippoussis-Hilton affair? Andrew Hornery reports.

The gossip magazine editors started receiving the calls early on Saturday morning. On the line was Australian publicist Richard Squire, calling from a ritzy Los Angeles shopping mall, trying to generate interest back in Australia for an "exclusive" involving the Hilton sisters.

His scoop: snaps of Paris and Nicky Hilton shopping with a couple of Australian girls, prizewinners in a Sportsgirl promotion.

Squire didn't have much luck. As one editor put it, "the story was more yawn than gasp".

But in just a few hours a lacklustre paparazzi shot had degenerated into a ferocious, global media feeding frenzy when News Ltd tabloids ran a syndicated story claiming Paris Hilton had revealed a torrid affair with Mark Philippoussis during the shopping spree, ending the tennis star's 10-month relationship with the patron saint of Australian pop music, Delta Goodrem.

It was tabloid heaven, complete with lashings of infidelity, deception, despair and saucy text messages: the golden girl of pop betrayed by the handsome but broody Philippoussis, who had fallen for the mesmerising charms of the bleached and perma-tanned Wicked Witch of West Hollywood, Paris Hilton. Not quite.

Enter self-proclaimed good mate of Philippoussis, Sydney radio personality Alan Jones, who told 2GB listeners yesterday the story was "ludicrous".

Jones said he had spoken to Philippoussis, who was in New York, before going on air. "All this talk that the Paris Hilton story has ended a nine-month relationship with Delta is, with respect, a nonsense." Jones confirmed that Philippoussis' and Goodrem's relationship was over - he said Philippoussis had ended it two weeks ago - days before the ARIAs.

"(He) told her that the long-distance relationship wasn't working for him... and he had to concentrate on his tennis. And he made the call to her to tell her that... so suggestions that he has had some kind of steamy relationship with Paris Hilton are ludicrous."

Philippoussis' manager Brian Cooney said he had "no reason to doubt" what Jones had said on air, but declined to comment further.

By yesterday afternoon PR man Squire was holed up in Los Angeles "bewildered" by what had transpired since Saturday.

"I was with Paris all day and I never heard her say anything about an affair with Philippoussis," he said. "I know nothing about it. She was very upset and called me when the story appeared. She was as bewildered as I was about being quoted in the press when she had not spoken to a reporter." Goodrem's record label, Sony, declined to comment, but denied reports that her mother Lea had flown to London to "comfort" the singer.

News Ltd editors were sticking with their "scoop" yesterday. Herald Sun editor Peter Blunden said he stood behind the report "100 per cent".

Now poor Paris feels betrayed
By NICK PAPPS and KATHY McCABE

HEIRESS Paris Hilton is angry details of her alleged fling with Mark Philippoussis have been made public.

A publicist for the socialite said Hilton had not expected her comments on the relationship to be leaked to the media.

Australian publicist Richard Squire, who was in a Los Angeles jeans store with Hilton when she reportedly dropped the bombshell, said the Hilton family was "not very happy".

"The message I got from Paris was 'What the hell is this all about?' " he said.

"It was probably just some throwaway comment."

It was revealed last weekend Hilton had told two Australian competition winners in a jeans store that she was having a relationship with Philippoussis.

She said she loved him, then produced an SMS photograph of a half-naked Philippoussis and said he had broken with Delta Goodrem because she was "boring."

Mr Squire said he heard nothing despite being in the jeans store with Paris at the time.

He said Philippoussis and Hilton had known each other some time.

"Tara Reid went out with Mark and she is a good friend of Paris."

Goodrem, in London to launch her new single Out Of The Blue and Mistaken Identity album, maintained silence yesterday.

Delta, 19, has stated she wants the focus back on her music and not her love life.

"She just wants this to go away," was the official line from the Goodrem camp.

A friend said "she will rise above this – she has been through a lot worse than this".

Radio personality Alan Jones, a friend of Philippoussis, claimed on 2GB yesterday the tennis player had split with Delta on the phone four days before the ARIA awards.

Delta is understood to have received a series of "mean" and "possessive" text messages from her boyfriend in the days before the awards.

But several people who spent the pre-ARIAs week with her yesterday said they had no knowledge of any communication Goodrem had from Philippoussis.

She may struggle to sing Out Of The Blue, which remains at No 1 this week, with the same emotion which inspired it.

But she will have no trouble paying tribute in song to two staunch supporters with the track You Are My Rock, which closes her second album.

It is dedicated to her brother Trent and friend Jude Bolton who kept her positive during her battle with cancer.

Her spirits will be further buoyed by the news her debut album Innocent Eyes leapt back into the ARIA Top 50 this week after her performance at the recent ARIA awards.

tayser is obviously finding the saga a pre-occupation.

It was bizarre in the doctor's surgery today - the first mag I picked up was a Woman's Day from the end of August saying how Delta was taming the Scud and how much they were in love.
