ajithv October 28th, 2011, 07:21 PM The construction is going to be on DBOT basis, the minimum design guidelines and minimum specifications (http://www.35thnationalgames.in/images/dgk.pdf) were supplied by NGS for the preparation of the Conceptual Design.
ajithv October 28th, 2011, 07:23 PM As per the government order G.O.(MS) No. 20/2011/S&YA of the S&YA Department dated 26.09.2011 sanction was accorded for the construction of Greenfield stadia at Kariavattom for the conduct of the 35th National Games by adopting annuity model.
A two stage tender process was adopted for the selection of Developer for the construction of stadiums. Developers were empanelled through a prequalification process and RFP(Request For Proposal) issued to the pre-qualified developers inviting technical and financial bids for the development of stadium.
M/s IL&FS Transportation Network Ltd (ITNL) (http://www.itnlindia.com/) emerged as successful bidder on DBOT (Design Build Operate and Transfer) basis with the lowest NPV(Net Present Value) quote for Rs.141.19Cr which is less than the indicative project cost of Rs. 161 crores mentioned in the RFP document.
The Letter of Award(LOA) has been issued to M/s IL & FS Transportation Network Ltd (ITNL) (http://www.itnlindia.com/) for the construction of Karyavattom stadium dated September 29, 2011. Initiation of construction works at the project site is expected to start in two months time (Dec 2011). Procedure for land transfer of project site from University authorities to NGS is under progress.

d_rk October 30th, 2011, 08:05 PM Great News..... I just wished 3 things..
1. The Advertising board on the sides to be straight and solid.. so at least the players don't feel like crashing into it.
2. The high Camera on both end of the wickets to be a little higher.. in most stadiums the camera is kept so low, it seems the empires hat is touching the batsman's feet.
something like this..http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z2Y18orYqXE
3. Clear rectangular edges for pitches. otherwise in most stadiums, the dirt can be seen all around the pitch, you dont even know where the pitch starts and where it ends..
would love to see the pitch and stadiums sides like Melbourne.
Anybody related to the guys making this stadiums, can convey this to the developers.. these might be small issues, but it makes a lot of difference in viewing the matches. i fell in love with the Australian pitches.. when 1992 world cup happens there.. My father used to wake us up early morning get up and watch the matches with hot tea in hand..
ajithv November 18th, 2011, 05:51 AM India’s first DBOT (design, build, operate and transfer) model outdoor stadium is coming up at Karyavattom in Thiruvananthapuram. It is being constructed to facilitate the 35th National Games to be held in Kerala.
The new greenfield stadium is coming up on 34 acres of land on Kerala University’s Kariavattom campus. Mumbai-based IL&FS Transportation Networks Limited won the bid for constructing the stadium at a cost of Rs 141 crore. The construction will begin in next December. The developer will design the stadium, build, operate and transfer it to the state government after completing the lease period of 15 years.
“This will be the first DBOT-model stadium in the country,” said an official in the coordinating committee. “The new method of operating the stadium will help avoid the possible hue and cry over the lack of maintenance after the Games. The operator will have to ensure the stadium is maintained well even when it is used for non-sporting events. The developer should also give back 10% of the gross revenue to the state government collected from Games and other non-sporting events conducted in the stadium. It should also give back 30% of sponsorship (inside stadium) revenue to the government annually,” he said.
The delay in construction and over expenditure could be curbed by resorting to the DBOT model, he added.
The operator would construct the stadium without financial aid from the government in the initial years. The authorities will release money in installments to the developer from third year onwards. A total of Rs 400 crore will be released by the end of the leasing period.
“The new stadium, which will have a seating capacity of 50,000, will come up after 24 months. The playing arena in the stadium will be constructed in line with FIFA regulations and ICC norms. It will have facilities to accommodate indoor sport facilities like basketball, volleyball, table tennis and handball. Olympic-size swimming pool with aquatic centre too will be constructed,” the official said.

Ajaypp November 18th, 2011, 04:36 PM ^^ - Good update, Ajith. I understand that the Concession Agreement could be signed as early as this week.
The next stage is to freeze the design with respect to the utilization of various facilities. I am kind of involved with that, I can say for sure that this will be the most innovative stadium in the country in terms of mixed-use. In fact, the concept behind the design is very much in line with global best practice of multi-use of sports facilities and we may have stolen a march even on Singapore, which is still fiddling around with a similar project when last heard.
Stay tuned!

Yes and perhaps, respectively. The stadium will not see use changes very frequently. The MCG is a dual-use stage.

MCG? I assume it is Melbourne Cricket Ground.
The wiki page answered the doubts of how can we have both Cricket and football matches :)
The football (soccer) configuration looks a little strange though!!
Some other questions that came to my mind regarding the ground planned in TVM.
Would it also have a athletic track around it?
The article above says that the construction will start in next December. I hope they meant this december

AFAIK, NGS had done about a dozen bore holes at the site. I understand that there has been limited location shifting of the various components of the complex within the site and this could be why they are doing additional soil testing. Also, the detailed structural design may have necessitated additional bores at certain locations.

My guess is that it'll primarily be a world class cricket stadium with a makeshift facility for conducting football matches as well.

AFAIK, the design meets both ICC and FIFA standards for international matches. That said, the ground configuration will be for cricket, with the football pitch configurable inside.

Yeah, that's what I meant. :)
Personally, being more of a football fan than a cricket fan, I would have desired Trivandrum to have a club owned football exclusive stadium like those in Europe. But with India being one of the worst teams in world football, it makes sense to go with a ground configuration suiting cricket rather than football.

Have faith, Atul, football may yet have its heyday in India. FIFA and AIFA are working to pump in massive resources to develop India's football business to match the multi-billion bonanza of cricket. A little birdie tells me that plans are afoot to put Trivandrum on the footballing map. :)

Rajesh SM April 7th, 2012, 05:55 AM ‘Start’ for Kariavattom Stadium
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Bringing to an end the inordinate delay in the infrastructure development which further delayed the 35th National Games, the preliminary work on the international stadium at Kariavattom is expected to begin within two weeks.
University of Kerala and Infrastructure Leasing & Financial Services Limited (IL&FS) signed a concession agreement in this regard the other day. IL&FS is the developer of the stadium proposed to be constructed on 37 acres of land belonging to the University of Kerala on Kariavattom campus.
The Kariavattom stadium is the proposed venue for the opening/closing ceremonies of the 35th National Games to be held in Kerala. Anil Kumar, co-ordinator of National Games Secretariat, said: “The stadium will be unique in many ways. It is the first stadium in the country coming up on DBOT (Design-Build- Operate and Transfer) basis. It is also the first stadium in the country to be developed on annuity mode. Unlike other stadia which remain unused after the main event, this stadium is designed as a self-sustaining model. It will have a convention centre, exhibition hall, restaurant, club house, swimming pools, indoor games facilities, retail space etc.” The rough estimate of the project is Rs 160 crore.
The stadium is designed in such a way that it can be used for football and cricket. It will not have an athletic track since the city already has stadia with this facility. It will have a seating capacity of 50,000.
The University of Kerala has agreed to lend 37 acres of its land in Kariavattom on lease for 30 years. It is learned that a consensus has been formed on rent. Though IL&FS had won the bid and awarded the contract almost five months ago, the work was stuck over the issue of land transfer by the University authorities.
The National Games Secretariat has also received the environmental clearance for the project. “All the formalities are over. The work will start soon,” said Anil Kumar.
IL&FS has formed a special purpose vehicle, Kariavattom Sports Facilities Limited, for the construction of the stadium. In annuity mode, the Government will not have to pay any amount for the first three years. It will pay Rs 400 crore in the next 15 years. The company is responsible for the maintenance of the stadium for 15 years after construction. The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2013.

JCJR created the Conceptual Design for the project, as well as for the Vattiyoorkavu Indoor Stadium, Central Stadium and Calicut Indoor Stadium. The design in the video has been created by the architects appointed by IL&FS, the developer of the stadium. It incorporates the unique mixed use concept that was at the center of the JCJR proposal, combining the 50,000 seat stadium with extensive retail, sports club, convention and hospitality facilities.
The current design has also been modified to incorporate some of the changes that have occurred to the shape of the land parcel leased from the University of Kerala. This design may evolve further, but it already incorporates most of the original concept.

I think there is not much importance in the exterior of a stadium. Did we ever seen an exterior angle of stadium during the live telecast of a match? But interior, gallery, lighting, ground, roof etc holds much importance. Here in this design, that sections looks very impressive.

jarsonline April 23rd, 2012, 09:05 AM Kerala CM to lay foundation stone for National Games stadium
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Come Wednesday and Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will lay the foundation stone for the Kariavattom outdoor stadium, the proposed venue for the opening/closing ceremony of the 35th National Games. The Chief Minister will lay the foundation stone at 4.30 pm on the day at Kariavattom.
Sports Minister K B Ganesh Kumar and officials concerned will attend the function. The event will be a major milestone in the preparations for the 35th National Games to be hosted by the State. The proposed stadium will come up on 37 acres of land belonging to the University of Kerala.
The Kerala University has lent the 37 acres to Kariavattom Sports Facilities Limited, a special-purpose vehicle fully owned by IL&FS Transportation Network Limited. The land was given on lease for 30 years. The construction of the greenfield stadium is expected to be completed in two years.
Kerala CM to lay foundation stone for National Games stadium
The first stadium in the country to be developed on DBOT (Design-build-operate- transfer) basis, the facility would have the capacity to seat 50,000 people. The rough estimate of the project is Rs 160 crore.
The stadium is designed in such a way that it could be used for football and cricket. It is designed as a self-sustaining model, having a convention centre, exhibition hall, restaurant, club house, swimming pools, indoor games facilities, retail space etc.
Though the work was awarded to IL&FS in September last year, delay in forming a consensus on the lease amount by Kerala University lagged the works. Finally, National Games Secretariat, IL&FS and the University signed a concession agreement on April 4, paving way for the development of the stadium.

Correct, the access road would have a minimum of 4-lanes and perhaps as many as 6, since the surge traffic when 50,000 folks exit the stadium within a period of 30 minutes would be very high. Fortunately, there will be a monorail station within walking distance.
Rajesh SM April 24th, 2012, 08:49 AM International stadium work to begin at Karyavattom
Twenty-eight months after it was first conceived, an international stadium project on the Karyavattom campus of the University of Kerala will get under way on Wednesday.
The sporting edifice on a sprawling 37-acre (about 15 hectare) plot is being constructed in connection with the 35{+t}{+h}National Games to be hosted by the State in December 2013 and will be the venue of the opening and the closing ceremonies of the multi-disciplinary event.
The work is being executed by Kariyavattom Sports Facilities Ltd. (KSFL), a fully owned subsidiary of IL&FS Transportation Networks Ltd., which had bagged the contract early last year.
The stadium, expected to cost Rs. 161 crore, is the first such sports infrastructure project to be constructed on an annuity basis in the country and will have a total capacity to seat 50,000 spectators.
During the post-Games period, it is proposed to host national and international events in cricket and football.
As part of the agreement entered into by the National Games Secretariat (NGS) with the KSFL, the stadium will have, besides the main playing arena, separate VIP and press galleries, accommodation facilities for players and office rooms.
The complex will have an indoor stadium which can accommodate three basketball courts, 12 badminton courts, two volleyball and handball courts each or 20 table-tennis tables at a given time.
Further, an aquatic centre with an Olympics-size swimming pool and other allied facilities and two tennis courts are envisaged.
Self-sustaining model
The project has been designed as a self-sustaining economic model and as such, will have a convention centre with a seating capacity of 2,000, a semi-open exhibition centre, a gymnasium with spa, a clubhouse, space for retail outlets and food courts, an operational building and an open area to park 2,000 cars, all accessible through a 24-m approach road from the nearby National Highway.
Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will inaugurate the work on Wednesday evening, in the presence of Education Minister P.K. Abdu Rabb, Sports Minister K.B. Ganesh Kumar and other dignitaries.
The work on the project is expected to completed within the next 24 months, while NGS officials are hopeful that the first phase will get over by November next year.
Going to be the best sports destination in Kerala.

:) I went with my elder cousin. Match was on Monday, 25th Jan 1988. But when I reached school on 27th Jan , my class teacher asked me to give the reason for the absense, as it was not informed. I told him the truth and he become almost mad. Pinne oru performance thanne aayirunnu!!!

Ganesh Kumar also said that if it wasnt going to be declared a special zone, he wouldnt believe that the work would be completed within the said time.
As the reply to Ganesh Kumar, CM Oommen Chandy in his speech told that he was very happy to see the enthusiam of the people and the concerned officials/ministers and so, he declared that he will put up the decision to declare Karyavattom Stadium as a special sports zone immediately, probably within one or two days. He also said that National Games is a prestige issue for the government and therefore, they will see to it that the Stadium will be completed within 18 months. He also said that he had great hopes in this project, specially mentioning that this is the first BOT stadium in the country, and that the stadium will bring a vast change to the face of the city and to Kerala as a whole. :)

ajithv May 9th, 2012, 04:02 AM Stadium Construction Site to Get Special Zone Status (http://t.co/jyRJhyuv)
Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on Tuesday lauded the Sports Department and the National Games Secretariat for developing a unique model for the construction of the new international stadium at the Kerala University campus in Karyavattom.
Inaugurating the construction work of the 50,000-seater stadium being built in connection with the 35th National Games, the Chief Minister said it was a model worth emulating and would go a long way in redefining the development initiatives of the State. Also, the new stadium, being the first of its kind to be constructed on annuity basis, will provide not only a boost to sporting activities within the State but also in the country as a whole.
Designed to the specifications of both the ICC and FIFA, the stadium is a unique public private partnership initiative that aims to bring the world of international sports to the state. The stadium incorporates a range of environmentally friendly initiatives, including extensive use of solar panels, rainwater conservation and a unique construction style which blends with the landscape.
Sports Minister K.B Ganesh Kumar, who was also present, had requested to keep the construction site away from all the hurdles associated with loading and unloading processes, if possible. In response the Chandy said that the site will be declared as a special zone. “As the sports minister requested, I declare the proposed stadium site as a special zone and the matter will be put before the Cabinet tomorrow itself as the timely completion of stadium is important,” he said.
“Formal orders will be issued after the meeting of the Cabinet on Wednesday itself. If the Labour Minister (Shibu Baby John) is not present at tomorrow’s (Wednesday’s) meeting, the issue will be cleared by the State Cabinet on May 16. But the Sports Department should stick to its word that the work on the stadium will be completed within the next 18 months, as promised.”
In his presidential address Mr. Ganesh Kumar said it was one of the happiest days in his life.;) “We have had multiple bodies checking all aspects of the deal and this will continue throughout the length of the project. In fact a team from the film development corporation is going to film the progress of the entire project and post it on the project website for public to watch”, he said.
Education minister P.K Abdu Rabb said that the fact that the stadium is going to be used years around makes it different from other such projects, “Usually people think of stadiums as dead investments but this is going to be used for one thing or the other throughout the year and that in itself is remarkable,” he said.
MLA M.V. Abdul Wahab, Kerala University Vice-Chancellor A. Jayakrishnan, Sports Secretary M. Sivasankaran, Thiruvananthapuram District Panchayat President Ramani P. Nair, KSSC President Padmini Thomas, and the NGS CEO and Secretary Amit Mallick also spoke.

Rajesh SM May 19th, 2012, 05:22 AM Eco clearance for new stadium
The State-level Environment Impact Assessment Authority (SEIAA) has accorded clearance for the construction of the greenfield stadium on the campus of the University of Kerala, Karyavattom, being built in connection with the 35{+t}{+h}National Games.
In the order issued on Wednesday by the SEIAA member-secretary James Varghese, the authority has stipulated certain conditions for the National Games Secretariat (NGS) to comply with while constructing the stadium. This includes the provision that the existing and proposed roads leading to the highways should be wide enough to enable the free movement of fire engines and vehicular traffic and that the slope of the internal roads should be rectified appropriately.
The NGS has also been asked to provide weep holes in the compound walls at the project site to ensure natural drainage of rainwater during the monsoon period.
Solid waste management system should be established by the NGS, without depending on the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation, in accordance with the provisions/guidelines of the State Pollution Control Board. The order says the compliance with these conditions will be monitored by the State Directorate of Environment and Climate Change and the Regional Office of the Union Ministry of Environment and Forests, Bangalore. Further to this, the Authority has also issued an 11-point general conditions to be followed by the NGS on matters, including rainwater harvesting, the formation of an environment monitoring cell and the planting of suitable avenue trees.

Wonder what the heck he is talking about?! Anyways, sans any help from the Kerala (?) CA, the State will soon have its very first purpose-built international cricket stadium in the Capital. I am sure the KCA is very welcome to host matches here. In fact, a little birdie tells me that preliminary discussions to this effect have already happened.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In view of the upcoming 35th National Games, the proposed greenfield stadium on the Kariavattom campus of the Kerala University has been notified as a special labour zone, so as to ensure smooth and speedy completion of works in an environment free of strikes.
Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said here on Thursday that the cabinet has decided to entrust the overseeing of the work with a deputy labour commissioner.

ajithv May 26th, 2012, 06:23 AM Thiruvananthapuram Earning its Sporting Stripes (http://t.co/GdywwkZX)
With the 35th National Games slated for December 2013 in the State, Thiruvananthapuram will get a stadium, in fact a “mini-township” for sports, which is expected bridge that infrastructure gap to a large extent. The international stadium and sporting facility is coming up at Karyavattom, near the University of Kerala campus and a few kilometres from Technopark. It will be the main Games venue.
The Rs. 161-crore complex, coming up on about 15 hectares of land, is said to be one of the biggest investment and infrastructure development initiatives in the field of sports in India. The complex will include facilities to host, and train in, multidisciplinary sports events. Chief Minister Oommen Chandy recently inaugurated its construction.
“This is going to be a truly international sports complex with state-of-the-art facilities. This project is a first-of-its-kind initiative in the country in many ways, and it is going to be a coveted asset for the sports sector in the country,” Amit Mallick, Chief Executive Officer of the National Games Secretariat, says. At the heart of the project will be a spectacular sporting arena, an international standard stadium with a seating capacity of 50,000. The “seating bowl” of the stadium is designed to have a variety of seating types configured around the circular ground. Specially designed seats and ramps for people with disabilities will be a feature.
External video-boards, public telephones, ATMs, public toilet facilities, merchandising outlets, food and beverage outlets, space for hawking and vending carts, a system for effective crowd control and emergency exits are among the features included in the design.
Player facilities in the stadium will include changing rooms and lockers for athletes, football and cricket players and umpires, a first-aid room, a drug testing room, a players’ lounge and family room and Hall of Fame, a space to display trophies and memorabilia.
The media facilities will include a press box, an interview room, interview areas at the pitch level, a television pre- and post-production studio, a radio broadcasting booth, camera platforms and a commentary box.
The stadium elevation has been designed to emphasise simplicity and slenderness of edges. Half the seats will have roof cover, which, though economical and lightweight, has been designed to reflect modern design aspirations. The stadium roof will house the lighting and emergency lighting services, public address systems and dish antennas and other broadcast equipment.
The complex will include an indoor sports complex with facilities for basketball, badminton, volleyball, handball, table tennis and other indoor events.
An Olympics-size swimming pool and allied facilities, a gymnasium and spa and two tennis courts will complement the facilities.

This picture was taken on the 30th Saturday. However, this is from the highway opposite to University gate. This is where the pathway to the stadium starts from the highway. The actual land for the stadium is visible far away.
Clearing work is in progress in full swing as indicated by you on the actual stadium land.
There was some issue with unloading materials last week with locals unions raising some issues - however, the land clearing and grading continues in full swing.
Ajith - will check out the view from Tejaswini food court and try to get a picture if possible.

The National Games Secretariat has detailed updates on the status of the work, unfortunately the website appears to be down today. They are also installing web-cams at the site which will broadcast images of the site live.

Yes. Below is the remark by somebody 2 days back in a neighboring forum. Wait and see. Hopes time will clear his doubts. Also i hope God will give him a chance to watch an International Cricket Match in this stadium ^^
Though the National Games main venue proposed at Kazhakkootam looks good in design and rendering...I believe in reality once it materializes (if it) it may look like another Chandrashekharan Nair stadium or University stadium.

Yes that's a high capacity gantry crane. Probably a 20/25 T unit used to move pre-cast units around in the casting yard. The stadium will most likely use pre-cast units for its beams and decking slabs for the seating areas.

ajithv November 11th, 2012, 09:36 AM National Games: KU fails to show sporting spirit (http://newindianexpress.com/cities/thiruvananthapuram/article1335243.ece)
The 35th National Games are scheduled to be held in December 2013 and officials at the National Games Secretariat (NGS) are busy with the preparations. However, the University of Kerala seems to be least interested in the event.
Citing flimsy reasons, the University has not signed the contract to lease out around 37 acres of land belonging to it on the Kariavattom campus for the construction of a greenfield stadium for the Games. The concession agreement and MoU for construction were signed by NGS, Kerala University and ITNL, the concessionaire, back in April. The inauguration of construction of work was held in May.
However, the dispute over a clause in the lease agreement is keeping the Kerala University from signing it.
According to NGS, the government had agreed to the demands of University such as hike in the lease amount, reducing the contract period from 30 years to 15 years etc.
A University official said that an additional clause included in the contract was the issue. “Without prior sanction of the University, a clause allowing mortgage of land was included in the agreement. This is not acceptable to the University. Since the stadium is being developed by a private firm, such as a clause cannot be accepted. Also, we had earlier demanded 3 per cent of market value as lease amount. However, it was finally agreed at 2.5 per cent. This was approved by the Syndicate recently,” the official said.
While the University is raising the issue of ‘mortgage’, some see it as a plot to sabotage the event. But, after remaining idle for months, the government has finally decided to intervene; a high-level meeting will be held on Wednesday to discuss the issue.
The University will get a stadium on its land and the ownership will be handed over to it by end of the lease period of 15 years. The greenfield stadium of international standards will have a playing field, main stadium, club house, food courts, restaurants, commercial space, dormitory etc. It will have a seating capacity of 50,000. The indoor stadium will have basketball, badminton, volleyball, handball and table tennis courts. In addition, there will be a gym and spa facility, Olympic-size swimming pool with aquatic centre and convention centre with a capacity of 2,000.

International stadium: Kerala University falls in line
Finally, hurdles have been removed for the construction of an international stadium at Kariavattom, the proposed main venue of the 35th National Games. In a high-level meeting convened by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on Wednesday evening, the University officials agreed to sign the lease agreement.
The University had opposed an additional clause included in the draft agreement which allows mortgage of land during the lease period. After discussions, University officials agreed to the clause. The University will lease out 37 acres of its land at Kariavattom for the construction of the greenfield stadium, which is expected to host the opening and closing ceremonies of the National Games, scheduled to be held in December 2013.
Though the University had earlier demanded 3 per cent of the market value as lease amount, it later agreed to a figure of 2.5 per cent. University officials said the contract period of 30 years was reduced to 15 years as per their request.
The concession agreement and MoU for construction were signed by National Games Secretariat (NGS), Kerala University and ITNL, the concessionaire, back in April. The inauguration of construction of work too was held in May. However, the University had not agreed to sign the lease agreement raising objection to the provision for mortgage.
Sports Minister K B Ganesh Kumar, Education Minister P K Abdu Rabb, NGS CEO Jacob Punnoose, Higher Education Secretary and University Syndicate members attended the meeting held at CM’s conference hall at 5 pm on Wednesday.
The greenfield stadium of international standards will have a playing field, main stadium, club house, food courts, restaurants, commercial space, dormitory etc. It will have a seating capacity of 50,000. That's the $64,000 question. The current game plan is to finish the main stadium structure first and then proceed to the ancillary facilities, so that it can host sports events at the very earliest.
You may recall that L&T built the JN Stadium in Chennai in about 250 days using pre-fab construction techniques. Even without achieving that pace, a 12 month construction plan for the stadium itself seems feasible. CCCL is a pretty capable contractor.
That said, I'd guess mid-2014 myself, let's see.

Unfortunately, the insistence on a 15 year concession term by KU instead of the 30 years proposed by NGS may dampen IL&FS' enthusiasm. It's pathetic that the State Government cannot reign in the University even when it's clear that the public interest is being sacrificed. :bash:

Work is nearing completion there. I believe there was a delay as the project was re-tendered in between.
krp April 30th, 2013, 04:49 PM Around overall 20% work only completed so far for the proposed 2000 seater Shooting range. No work started yet for planned Rs 51 crore multi-purpose indoor stadium with 5000 seating capacity. ^^

My mistake, I assumed that work had progressed since re-tendering.
The stadium will be tendered out shortly as an EPC contract.

Rajesh SM June 17th, 2013, 10:11 AM FC Twente wants to establish football academy in Kerala
Football in Kerala, a state of India, may soon get a boost. FC Twente is in fact talking to promoters of an international stadium to be built there to start a football academy.
Representatives of FC Twente have already visited Kerala. The initiators provide the infrastructure and FC Twente for the talent and resources. Representatives of FC Twente viewed all matches of the Santosh Trophy to see how football lives Kerala. The KSFL (Kariavattom Sports Facilities Limited) wants a three-layer competition with amateurs, registrants and professional clubs.
The Kerala Football Association (KFA), which was also the host of FC Twente, welcomed the new partnership. "They were enthusiastic about understanding the local flavor of the game. We see such partnerships as part of a trend. Several international clubs have recently shown interest in India, with particularly Kerala. "
FC Twente has international partnerships concluded in the past with the Hungarian club Kozármisleny SE, U.S. Dayton Dutch Lions, Manchester United Football Academy EGB (Esther Grande de Bentin Club) from Peru, Golden Booth from Ghana, Club Libertad of Paraguay and FK Qarabağ from Azerbaijan. So this would be the eighth international partnership of FC Twente. Within the Netherlands FC Twente partnerships with Heracles Almelo and Go Ahead Eagles (joint youth), JVOZ / Cortgene from Zeeland and UVS from Leiden.

Rajesh SM June 17th, 2013, 10:31 AM Dutch to tap Kerala talent
Twente FC in talks to set up football academy
Kerala’s affair with football may soon have a happy twist. Top Dutch club FC Twente is in talks with promoters of an upcoming international stadium here to launch a football academy to train local talent.
Officials of the club have already visited Kerala. The stadium promoters will provide infrastructure and FC Twente the talent and resources.
A senior official at the Kariavattom Sports Facilities Limited (KSFL), a special purpose vehicle of the IL & FS Transportation Network that is constructing the Rs 160-crore stadium, said the partnership would provide an opportunity to aspiring footballers and local players to train under international expertise.
“The club officials also watched the Santosh Trophy matches to assess how deep the passion for the game is in Kerala. The idea is to tap into sleeping potential,” KSFL director Anilkumar Pandala told Deccan Herald on Thursday.
FC Twente, based in Enschede, the Netherlands, already runs an academy in collaboration with other clubs in the Dutch leagues.
The KSFL is planning a three-tier football league involving amateurs, registered and professional clubs.
The Kerala Football Association (KFA), which also hosted the FC Twente officials during their visit, welcomed the new partnership. “They were keen on understanding the local flavour attached to the game. We also see such partnerships as part of a trend. International clubs have recently shown great interest in India, especially Kerala,” KFA president K M I Mather said on Thursday. “A logistical framework for the academy could be out in the next couple of months.”
The KSFL is planning to host some of the biggest names in international football at the 50,000-seat multi-purpose stadium.
The stadium is being readied for the opening and closing ceremonies of the 35th National Games later this year. The company is holding talks with global sport management groups which handle Manchester United, FC Barcelona and Real Madrid.
The tough task will be to raise the stadium’s standards by a few notches. The company is spending an additional Rs 60 crore on the stadium which is coming up at Kariavattom on the outskirts of the city.
“We need to have local, regional, national and international matches regularly to keep the stadium alive. It’s important to provide a great match day ambience and an infrastructure of international standards,” Pandala said.
