snake October 24th, 2004, 04:44 PM Wenzhou (温州) is a prefecture-level city (or provincial subregion) in southeastern Zhejiang province, People's Republic of China. It has a population of 7,777,000 in 2006, with 1,336,000 residents in the 3 districts (区) of the city with the same name. It also contains 2 more cities and 6 counties. Wenzhou was a prosperous foreign treaty port, which remains well-preserved today. It is also known for its emigrants who leave their native land for Europe and the United States, with a reputation for being enterprising folk who start restaurants, retail and wholesale businesses in their adopted countries.

Pangu October 24th, 2004, 10:12 PM That pagoda is real pretty. If you block out the nearby highway and some modern buildings around it, you can still get a sense of what Wenzhou looked like hundreds of years ago.
PEK November 2nd, 2004, 12:17 AM nice pics...i always thought wenzhou is a polluted industrial town, where 70% of the world's lighters and shoes come from, never knew it's so beautiful.

YelloPerilo June 30th, 2008, 01:28 AM Wenzhou is one of the worst cities in China I've ever been to. :(
BarbaricManchurian June 30th, 2008, 02:21 AM ^^Why? I've never been there, so I'd want to know.
YelloPerilo June 30th, 2008, 02:40 PM Wenzhou and the surrounding area is known to have become quite wealthy in recent years. But most people I met there were quite arrogant and ignorant at the same time. All they have is money and not much else. The streets were dirty, the infrastructure is not well organised, the traffic was worse than any city of similar size and (wealth) development in China.
Well, I hope the next gneration will be different and not spoilt by their newly rich parents.
