View Full Version : Does new Mid-City/Exposition Light Rail can go through to ghetto/bad neighborhood?
VansTripp October 24th, 2004, 05:09 PM I read on map of new Mid-City/Exposition Light Rail. It can go through to Crenshaw, West Adams, Baldwin Hill, View Park or maybe Vermont. This area maybe considered into high crime rate. They was in South L.A.
I'm nervous about 4 area was good or not but I know, South L.A. isn't safe to walk or live at night. Does you know about whole South L.A. (Old Word: South Central Los Angeles)? Please explain about this area if pretty good.
cooley21 October 24th, 2004, 11:17 PM No
cooley21 October 24th, 2004, 11:21 PM NO. The area the line goes through is one of the more historic areas of the city. The west adams area is a historical district. The areas around USC and the Coliseum are undergoing a transformation. You have to remember statistics are not everything. The blue line travels through areas that are on paper "high crime" but the blue line has the highest ridership of any light rail line in the country. Do not let stats scare you. There are a lot of good hard working people in the area the expo line will run through and hopefully the expo line will be a catalyist for increased positive change.
VansTripp October 25th, 2004, 01:29 AM Oh. I have been in blue line before. It was ok or some was good at day time then it get bad at night. I'm scared to ride on blue line at night if from Long Beach to L.A. Downtown.
Can you list all station on blue line if have high crime rate? Blue line can be safety if have enough police.
Palal October 25th, 2004, 08:41 AM Well....I've been on the Blue Line at night. Even during the day, I was uncomfortable riding it. Always rode in the first car, close to the operator (not that that would've made a difference).
Between 7-10am and 4-7pm, the line is full of commuters, and there do not seem to be too many problems. However, after 7pm and between 10 and 4, there seem to be problems on the line; more so after 7.
Crenshaw is not a good place to walk at any time of day or night, but I didn't have trouble walking on Hawthorne Blvd (both day and night). It seems that neighborhoods west of Hawthorne, and especially west of 405 are good neighborhoods.
More on the blue line... nobody bothered me there, however, one time during the day, as I was transferring from the Green line to the Blue Line at Imperial/Wilmington/Rosa Parks, I almost witnessed a shooting. Well, I only saw the result - one guy lying on the tracks, and a whole bunch of LA Co. Sheriffs walking around. By the looks of it, it seems that this is an everyday occurance there. A few minutes later, an announcement on the PA let the passengers know to expect delays because of a "Medical Emergency."
That was the last time I rode the blue line. (Mostly because I haven't been back to LA since). But it can happen anywhere.
Reluctantpopstar June 4th, 2006, 12:34 AM Well, dang. :ohno:
Sorry you had to witness a shooting. I've been riding the Blue Line since it opened (on and off, not on a daily basis whatsoever, but at least ten times a year) and have never even witnessed an assault or a mugging, much less a shooting. The worst I've ever seen are teenagers being loud and rapping at the top of their lungs while the middle-aged Mexican women hide their heads in their hands. I've even changed trains to the Green line at the station you mentioned many times.
Okay, I will admit, i probably don't get bothered because I am a very large man. But, I would advise anyone to be aware of their surroundings and travel in a group if possible, and you should be fine.
As far as the Expo Line, I feel that the neighborhoods it travels through are safer than the Blue Line, more middle class and with fewer crimes. Many of the stations are near USC, which is pretty much an oasis of lower crime in a crime-ridden area, and the farther west you go, the less crime there is. It shouldn't be too unsafe. :)
Fern~Fern* June 4th, 2006, 01:02 AM OMG, for a minute there I thought LA Lover was back...

klamedia June 4th, 2006, 05:51 AM Ok, at first I thought that was possibly a birth date, then I realized that wasn't possible. Then, I thought perhaps you were banned and started up a thread on that date to demonstrate that you can be banned and still start up threads like our persistent friend "Vanns". But after an hour of searching I realized that your join date states Jan. 2006. My only other suspicion is that you were once on the forum, got banned (by Romans of course)and have since been resurrectd as "godlblessbotox", using the word "god" in your moniker as a secret code to the astute and awake. .......you have returned, o lord. Let thee be the first to say, I have sinned. :master:
Fern~Fern* June 4th, 2006, 05:57 AM ^ I can guarantee you he's not LA Lover, Blinky, Vannstripp, evil santa at all. If so we would of been called "Idiot fuckin" "I don't like you" and whatnot.

SILVERLAKE June 5th, 2006, 04:33 PM PHEW!. I THOUGHt BLINK-182 WAS BACK FOR A SECOND. WHAT A NIGHTMARE THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN. I AM SO GLAD THAT I GOT HIM REBANNED WHEN HE TRIED TO COME BACK BEFORE. HE SUCKED.
Robert Stark June 5th, 2006, 08:34 PM When the Expo goes through, will that make Santa Monica verry Crowded? Maybe the Expo should just go to Palms West LA, and merge with the red line wich would go to westwood, but those types of crowds would destroy the character of SM.
klamedia June 5th, 2006, 09:32 PM Robert, I think you are trying to be inflammatory btw a very bad attempt. Since we are on the internet and you don't have a clue as to who you are interacting with, we could all be a part of that crowd that you speak of that would "destroy" SM's whitewashed character. Please do not use this well meaning forum as your political/idealogical volleyball.
LosAngelesSportsFan June 5th, 2006, 10:59 PM ya, what a dumb statement. Moving people around efficiently will not ruin Santa Monica, its Dumb ass Nimbys will. "oh my god, three 20 story towers next to a freeway in the second largest city in America, oh my god".
Robert Stark September 22nd, 2007, 07:18 AM I was wondering that as well.
