Morgans Plans Mondrian Hotel in Qatar(February 2011) posted on Thu Feb 17, 2011 265-key Doha locale to open in 2013

Morgans Hotel Group Co. said it has entered into a hotel management agreement for a Mondrian hotel in Doha, Qatar. The 265-key locale is currently being built and is slated to open in early 2013 in Doha’s upscale West Bay Lagoon neighborhood.
The property is expected to feature several restaurants, an indoor/outdoor rooftop pool bar; banquet and meeting spaces and a top-of-the-line spa. The project is being financed by a Qatar-based bank and being developed and owned by a member of Qatar's Royal Family.
“The developer is creating a spectacular hotel that we will be delighted to include in our collection. We are pleased to have been selected to manage the property over multiple other contenders,” said Morgans president Marc Gordon. “This agreement is another example of the international appeal of our brand, and every indication is that Doha will be a launching pad for further growth for us in the region.”

Nope, but that would be a first for the West Bay Lagoon, this area is purely residential now...

Unfortunately it is owned by the same developers as the Lagoona so they are just building on their land. Since it is a hotel then there definitely won't be a lot of parking space available.

If the land is owned by the same developer, couldn't they have the sense of creating a design that would compliment the zig zag towers? This structure is too classical/final fantasy (plus wind turbines) next to something so unique in appearance (zigzag). Weird.

the owner is stupid !!! really he is. before he approved the design, didn't he know that would not fit the ig zag !!!

@halawala, the developers of Zig Zag are Al Dar though, on the sign board it doesn't mention Al Dar

I count five floors progress in five weeks. Seems pretty quick to me.

so there is another 15 week + 6 to finish the top part and then another 16 weeks to open so in total 37 week looool

I count now, 4 weeks 3 floors which is extremely slow now !! BTW why do I count and waiting to topped out? I don't like the way the hotel looks like and the location ! waa3 Doha urban planning is getting worse !

Thanks for the update! If you counted 10floors on May 15th then this tower is up to 16floors. Notice that floors 9/10 had the yellow metal sticking out of them on May 15th and floors 15/16 have the same now. This is being built at just under a floor a week. Look forward to seeing the shell and roof completed at the end of September.

What a terrible terrible building, had a near miss with that place a while ago. Have a friend who lived there had to move out because all day long they could smell smoke from shisha's.

No one could pin point the cause, had to buy their way out of the contract it was that bad, imagine how much that cost.

Terribly sad for all those who brought there and who have to reside there.

And you think the pools are bad have you seen the gym, buy a treadmill and your home gym would be better equipped.

Yeah like the gym equipment is second hand.

Still a long way? At the beginning of July it was at 16flrs, it has to be at least at 20flrs over the last 8 weeks. That means 5 more floors to go, probably topped off by mid October now that Ramadan is over. I think they will be able to stick to the March/April opening as long as there isn't anymore lasting delays.

Actually I think that's 24flrs, the bottom floors are larger and the smaller ones are for rooms. The two are the top with the rebar sticking out are actually floors at the end of completion. This should start looking interesting around Dec/January
