Before his death, the famous Iraqi sculptor Mohammad Ghani Hekmat has completed 4 new monuments for Baghdad. Baghdad Municipality has already received the designs. The monuments were made by monuments company , and will be located four different places in Baghdad. I am not if those monuments are fixed in their locations, but I am sure from what I found that they are already built.

1- Ashaar Baghdad ( Baghdad poemts )
Spherical shape of the Arabic letters, includes parts from poem about Baghdad by the famous Iraqi poet Mustafa Jamal El Din.
height : 3m from the base + 2m base = 5m
Location : AlDallal Square, near the Beuriti cafe in AlKarkh

2- Enkath El Iraq ( Save Iraq )
Represents a Sumerian cylindrical seal based on the Iraqi hands (6 meters height) .. it represents the steadfastness of Iraqis which faced all the challenges and that Iraq will remain a destination for all nations because of the rich history we have in ancient civilization, history and humanity.
Height: 10m + base

Represents the famous magic lantern from the famous Iraqi myth One Thousand and One Nights.

It symbolizes Baghdad city as a beautiful girl, who sits on a chair, wearing the old Arabic dress.
Height: 3m + 10.5m base = 13.5 m

Thanks for this...... beautiful monuments, love them. Ghani was a great man, with a lot of love for his country. These monuments are small though I hope they one day take one of his other designs and build a huge monument of it for it to be a Baghdad landmark.

you can't really change image sizes on this site, you have to save the file on your machine, shrink it down, and load it up to a photo sharing website like flickr or photobucket etc.. then link it again :(

وقال العيساوي في الاحتفال الذي اقيم بالمناسبة ان" افتتاح هذا الصرح الفني الكبير وسط بغداد وفي هذه الايام هو تعبير حقيقي لوحدة وصمود البغداديين بوجه اعداء العراق والانسانية.
ويمثل هذا النصب واحدا من اربعة اعمال نحتية للفنان الراحل تم تنفيذها في بغداد.
ونصب الفانوس السحري هو عمل يجسد المصباح السحري المعروف في قصص الف ليلة وليلة البغدادية وقد ابدعه الفنان الراحل بطريقة فائقة الروعة والجمال بإرتفاع 8 أمتار ويكون مع القاعدة بارتفاع 10 أمتار.
وسيشكل هذا النصب ، بحسب امانة بغداد ، اضافة نوعية لما تزخر به العاصمة من عشرات الاعمال والنصب الفنية التي نفذها عمالقة الفن النحتي والتشكيلي وتحمل دلالات عن عمق حضـارة وتاريخ وتراث بلاد مابين النهرين.

Haha yeah the guy said $4 billion but thats obviously a mistake. Cuz the guy they interviewed said 1 billion dinars for the cost of this monument. In total it's 4 billion dinars = $4 million.

I don't know why, but i don't like the magic lantern very much, i think it's because of the base and the fountain.... The render is so much nicer

i totally agree about the base and fountain...it could of been made so much more dramatic...with the lantern sitting on the water and with crazy lights!
