By the way, how do we define "modern?" In what field or school of philosophy? Is it the chronological, the school of thought, architecture or social structures? :D
^^

Picturesque locations to take pictures of Iloilo’s Skyline

Posted by Explore Iloilo

Some people have wondered where I take pictures from, some even jest about what tree I’ve climbed just to take shots of a top view of buildings. This post is intended to let you know the usual places where you can see picturesque views of the City, so you too can enjoy the great view that most people will never even know about.

1. The number one on my list is Balaan Bukid, found in Guimaras Island. The elevation of the hill provides a great view of the panorama of the city, the hike is also very exhilarating.

other locations:
2. Top Floor (6th) of the Iloilo Provincial Capitol
Bonifacio Drive, City Proper

3. Top Floor (4th) of the Hall of Justice
Bonifacio Drive, City Proper

4. Roof Deck of the 7-level TTK tower in Iznart St.
Iznart St., City Proper

5. Roof Deck of the 6-level “Pink Building” in Iznart St.
Iznart St., City Proper

6. On the tower of the Iloilo Customs House
Muelle Loney St., City Proper

7. On the bell towers of Molo church
Molo district

8. Penthouse of the 8-level Iloilo Business Hotel
Smallville Business Center, Diversion Road, Mandurriao

just wanna post this coming from a credible site :)

^^ Kim, I'm having doubts already, why are you emphasizing so much when it comes to Iloilo and seems that you are into comparison? SUV has put its 8 stories and had it corrected, no need to enlarge and have it on red, nakakahalata na ako sa intensyon mo....Don't put us down when we are already down! You should be happy your city was spared!

Anyway, the answer is that we cannot put up a high-rise not unless it would cost hundred millions of pesos. The reason, the soil and earth that is present in the city of Iloilo is alluvial clay. It is not a good medium for foundation for high-rise buildings. That is why, most of the mid-rises has also smaller mass in order to compensate the capacity of the bedrock. The soil limits the heights of the buildings in the city.

Even the Megaworld project would not emphasize on high-rise as there is a lot of space to develop, especially the peripheries.

Maybe the good basis for measuring height is using the measurement of height instead of stories. Because I think there was an earlier thread which the argument was the basis of the tallness of one establishment is based on stories and not the measurement.

The conflict is that if we solely base the height of one's building with stories, it may prove futile to measure the exact height of the building. Because there are some establishments that have larger floor-ceiling gap than the others.

The problem is sometimes the actual height in meters or feet may not be available for the public. Most online sources would just provide the height in terms of stories or levels. You'd probably have to employ trigonometry if you were in the vicinity of the building.

And then again, I don't think this thread is very fruitful unless were talking about supertalls which many in this age believe to be symbolic of wealth, power, and prestige. My point is, let's go on with this thread but let's not take things too seriously.

you're right! PNB Building here in Bacolod is just 7-storeys but has the same height of a standard 10-storey building.:)

^^
ei!!! no bad intentions! i just don't like people lying and exaggerating!:ohno:

Modern can mean many things

http://img256.imageshack.us/img256/4074/picture037mc3.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

Most modern facilities, maybe Texas Instruments Philippines where they make all this calculators and electronic stuff.

If it has to be glassy and all, Maybe this building in SM Cyberzone would do...

Walang 40-storey building ang Cebu. 35 storeys lang ata 'to.

...actually, it's 38 storeys!

...but, kung i-include ang facility such as the base for the INSANITY RIDE (see video below) ...maging equivalent sya to 40 storeys...

Considering, the whole province itself, the Iloilo airport is the most modern building in the province and city, in terms of architecture and facilities. It is even the most modern operational airport in the country today. :)

Yeah but that's part of the rooftop already so it shouldn't be included in the number of floors. So it's 38 storeys then.

Then better not emphasize the mistake of someone. Because it may be interpreted into something not good. ;)

please just post your city's tallest building and please post the REAL height of your building. THANKS. PEACE!:)

Like I remember the conflict of Petronas Towers and Sears Towers. All because of the lightning rod and the floor-ceiling gap. :D

Anyway, I hope we've learned our lessons well..; :)

shouldn't height be measured in meters/feet? kasi floor-to-floor heights differ among different buildings.

in the case of cebu's tallest, it doesn't matter whether it's 38 floors or 40 floors kasi when it comes to measuring the height, kasali yung pinakatuktok ng building. even if you only count 38 floors as the "valid" number, pag susukatin mo yung building, kasama pa rin yung 2 extra floors.

and another thing, even if one building has more floors, it doesn't necessarily mean na mas mataas na sya kesa mga buildings with fewer floors.

example: St. Francis has 60 floors while PBCom has 54 floors. Pero anong building mas mataas? PBCom. :sleepy:

i thought iloilo business hotel is only 10 storeys high

^^
12 floors?????? it is just 9 or 10 floors.

I've already been inside. Total number of floors does roughly 10-12, inclusive of the basement and penthouse. :)

cities above looking cool...^^ :)

Other mid rises here...Not "makati kind of tall" but for a city in a mountain, these are "tall" l wont indicate how many floors or meters since I think arguments about height would only be more relevant if we're talking supertalls...IMO

I've already been inside. Total number of floors does roughly 10-12, inclusive of the basement and penthouse. :)

but basements are not included in counting the number of floors.
