The vision of SriCity is great, but the current infrastructure situation is just like any other part of India. The tag of Private Sez has zero value.

The roads and layouts are well made, but what's needed for any new venture is a zero downtime internet services and excellent voice connectivity.

Reliance is the only service provider for wired voice line and internet services. Their services are extremely bad, and for a place like SriCity, where major GSM operators have very feeble signals, wired voice line is very important. Internet down times are regular and voice line never works well.

What's more disgusting is the zero care attitude thrown by SriCity officials. They are not bothered about their clients connectivity at all.

If you are a potential client for SriCity, beware of voice and internet connectivity issues. You will be taken for a long ride and be prepared.

Welcome to SriCity..!!!

Colgate - Strengthening foothold in Oral care market (http://www.equitybulls.com/admin/news2006/news_det.asp?id=110640)

We had initiated a coverage on Colgate with accumulate rating (Dec 15, 2011) based on its strong brand equity and product reach in India.

The company's top line has been growing consistently in high teens with volume growth at mid teen range. Colgate's volume market share in tooth paste segment increased to 54.5% in during Jan-Jun 2012 period from 52.4% during same period in last year.

Similarly the company strengthened its position in tooth brush category with 38.2% share, which is nearly 200 bps improvement in one year. It has launched two variants i.e. Colgate 360 Battery Toothbrush and Colgate Max Fresh Toothbrush.

In a premium sensitive tooth paste segment, Colgate Sensitive tooth paste has a new major competitor in i.e. HUL's Pepsodent Expert Protection along with GSK Pharmaceuticals' Sensodyne.

The company is increasing its manufacturing base by investing in new facilities at Sanand in Gujarat (tooth paste) and Sri City in Andhra Pradesh (tooth brush). Both the factories are expected to be operational from 2013.

Conversion from tooth powder to tooth paste in rural India (45% tooth paste penetration) has been a major growth driver for oral care companies like Colgate. Therefore, we expect the company to grow at 12%-14% rate comfortably in next three years. We re-iterate our ACCUMULATE rating on Colgate with a revised target price of Rs.1,270 per share.

Sri City offers ready-built factory space for Japanese firms (http://www.thehindubusinessline.com/companies/article3991486.ece)

Sri City, the 5,000-acre integrated business city at Tada to the north of Chennai, has launched ready-built factory space to attract Japanese small and medium enterprises.

It will offer ready-built factories measuring 5,000 sq. ft to 20,000 sq. ft for companies planning to set up manufacturing facilities at the SEZ in Sri City in Andhra Pradesh close to the Tamil Nadu border. Customised space of over 5,000 sq. m can also be provided, said Ravindra Sannareddy, Managing Director, Sri City. Over 20 acres has been earmarked for the modular factory space.

The business city has earmarked 300 acres exclusively for Japanese companies and is tailoring the specifications to the needs of Japanese investors. The area is also being expanded to 500 acres following the interest evinced by Japanese companies. All clearances will be in place and the investors will simply have to come in and set up shop. They can lease the space for Rs 12-15 per sq. ft. per month for a five-year period and have the option to buy the space. There are now more than 80 manufacturing units, of which 40 are in operation in Sri City, including 14 large Japanese companies, he said.

Japanese investors are keen on South India as it gives them access to the markets here and export to South-East Asia and other parts of the globe. However, the initial stages of setting up shop in India can be daunting for those unfamiliar with the systems here. Sri City has addressed this issue along with its ready built space that will offer plug and play option.

Shinya Fujii, Director-General, Japan External Trade Organisation in Chennai, said such ready-made factories were in vogue in Thailand, a major automobile industrial hub in South-East Asia. Over 36 industrial estates house over 2,000 such factories and the ready-built inventory is estimated at 1.76 million sq.m.

Insufficient guidance from local authorities, delay in statutory clearances are major issues that need to be addressed to encourage Japanese investments. Companies are keen on investing in South India, particularly Tamil Nadu, he said.

First metro train to be ready next year (http://www.thehindu.com/news/cities/chennai/first-metro-train-to-be-ready-next-year/article4242284.ece)

The manufacture of metro cars for the city has begun at a factory set up by French company Alstom Transport. The first train set (four coaches) will be ready in 2013. Although the formal inauguration of the factory at Sri City near Tada in Andhra Pradesh is likely to take place only in March, work began in October itself, said officials of the Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL).

Alstom was awarded a Rs. 1,471-crore order for the manufacture of 168 metro coaches.

Nine train sets (36 coaches) will be produced and tested by Alstom at their Lapa factory in Brazil, while the remaining cars will be produced at the site in India, said Jojo Alexander, managing director, Alstom Transport India.

CMRL officials said the purpose behind setting up a factory in the country was the promotion of indigenous manufacturing and reduction of cost.

“Also, having a manufacturer locally makes servicing and maintenance easier,” said a CMRL official.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC)’s contractor Bombardier Transportation manufactured metro cars in Savli in Gujarat.

Meanwhile, the model coach made at the factory in Brazil arrived in Chennai early this month and it may be taken to Sri City before CMRL puts it up for public viewing in Chennai.

Japan’s Isuzu Motors zeroes in on plant in Andhra Pradesh (http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/business/india-business/Japans-Isuzu-Motors-zeroes-in-on-plant-in-Andhra-Pradesh/articleshow/18214027.cms)

CHENNAI: Japanese utility vehicle maker Isuzu Motors has firmed up its India plans with a manufacturing plant in Sri City, Andhra Pradesh. Isuzu will invest nearly Rs 1,000 crore in the greenfield plant that can make nearly 50,000 vehicles a year.

The India-specific announcement is expected on March 15 in Hyderabad. The plant will be ready for commercial production by 2015 and till then, the Japanese manufacturer will use the Hindustan Motors' Chennai car plant at Tiruvallur and General Motors' facility.

"The initial plan is to roll out MU7 Choiz (a sports utility vehicle sporting a 3.0-litre engine) and V Cross, a 2.5-litre engine, mounted pick-up," sources said.

Isuzu could not be reached for comment.

The homologation - the process of certifying that a particular car is roadworthy and matches certain specified criteria laid out by the government for all vehicles made or imported into the country - was completed a few weeks ago at ARAI in Pune.

Isuzu is known for its leadership in diesel technology. Its global product portfolio comprises of heavy-, medium- and light-duty trucks, buses, passenger vehicle engines, industrial-use diesel engines.

It will, however, concentrate on pick-ups and SUVs in India. Isuzu had offered its utility vehicle 'Panther' to General Motors to be rebadged as Chevrolet Tavera in India. The company's diesel engines were mounted on Hindustan Motors' Ambassador and Contessa.

Sri City, though located in Andhra Pradesh, is just on the outskirts of Chennai. Isuzu will use the near shore advantage of Chennai's auto parts ecosystem to build its plant and India business.

"Andhra Pradesh is desperate to get an automotive factory. Remember the failed Vashishta Wahan, which was supposed to be an Indian arm of Volkswagen, but turned out to be a fictitious entity. They are going all out for a car plant, but nothing happened. Even with Isuzu, the original announcement was due in December-end, but has since been postponed to March," sources said.

SHAN Solar Launches Solar Power Kits; Targets Residential Segment (http://www.power-eng.com/news/2013/01/27/shan-solar-launches-solar-power-kits-targets-residential-segment.html)

Sunday, January 27, 2013: Shan Solar, a solar PV modules manufacturer with production facility at Sri City SEZ in Andhra Pradesh (near Chennai), has forayed into the rooftop systems with solar power kits for the residential segment. The company already enjoys presence in the solar farm space and is setting up a 25 MW solar project in Maharashtra and a 50 MW solar farm project at the outskirts of Hyderabad, the land for which has already been identified and all necessary approvals from concerned authorities have been obtained.
The company said it is exploring opportunities to set up a similar commercial project in Tamilnadu. Among the many options, the company is considering partnering industry associations to form a special purpose vehicle and manage the solar farm project on a turnkey basis.
Sury Singapur, chairman and managing director, Shan Solar, said, "Over the last few years, several technological innovations owing to focused R&D initiatives have resulted in solar energy generation cost dropping dramatically. Coupled with this, imaginative fiscal incentives offered by governments have lessened the burden of upfront costs of owing solar systems."
Rajesh Rangarajan, chief marketing officer and EPC head, Shan Solar, added: "Besides targeting industries, we are keen to tap residential segment as several cities and towns across the country face unprecedented power cuts ranging between 2 and 12 hours and in many cases even longer duration. Solar power kits and rooftop solutions will be the two offerings of Shan Solar that will hit the market in the first week of March 2013."
Solar power kits will come in different variants ranging from 500 watts to 5000 watts and would be reasonably priced to make them affordable, according to the company. These would be plug and play systems and would be made available through the company's channel partners.
Shan Solar currently has eight channel partners in Tamil Nadu and has plans to increase the number to 50 by the end of this year. On the contrary roof top solutions will be custom built to suit customer requirements. Rajesh pointed out that the main advantage of rooftop solutions is that they can be installed faster than any other types of renewable energy. Besides generating own electricity, rooftop solutions open the possibility of generating additional income to investors as excess power generated could be connected to the grid, he added.

Isuzu may set up LCV unit in Andhra (http://www.business-standard.com/article/companies/isuzu-may-set-up-lcv-unit-in-andhra-113022700453_1.html)

Likely to sign an MoU with state government on March 15

Japanese truck-maker Isuzu Motors is likely to sign an MoU with the Andhra Pradesh government for setting up a manufacturing facility at the Sri City industrial park bordering Tamil Nadu.

Sources in the government as well as those close to the company confirmed the development stating that the Isuzu management had sought time from chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on March 15 for the signing of the MoU.

It would manufacture pick-up trucks (light commercial vehicles) at the proposed facility by bringing in about Rs 1,500 crore investment within two-and-a-half years, a senior industry department official told Business Standard on Wednesday.

The company is entering the Indian LCV market this month by launching two pick-up trucks in the 2-3.5-tonne segment. It would import the fully built units from its Thailand factory. Isuzu Motors India Private Limited deputy managing director Shigeru Wakabayashi earlier this month said these products would be completely localised after establishing the facility that would have a capacity to produce 100,000 units a year.

The location offers a close proximity to the well-developed auto ancillary industry in Tamil Nadu in addition to the port facilities in both the states.

“The company has offered to invest Rs 1,500 crore in the first phase and Rs 4,000 crore in phases. It also wants to start the production of cars at a later stage,” the official said.

The Andhra Pradesh government, in turn, has offered sales tax waiver for a particular duration in proportion to the size of investment, according to the official. The company had held several rounds of discussions with the state government authorities in the past after it began scouting for a suitable location in South India.

Currently, Mahindra & Mahindra is the only major player to have its manufacturing operations in AP at Zahirabad from where it produces tractors as well as SUVs like Scorpio and Bolero.

Sri City will provide 100 acres of land for the park in phase I and subject to demand, an additional 50 acres in phase II, according to a joint press release.

The park will be co-branded and named Sri City-MAIT Electronics Hardware Manufacturing Cluster Park. This will be a special purpose vehicle, said Ravindra Sannareddy, Managing Director, Sri City. This park will offer readily available land and infrastructure. The cost of land in Sri City will be one-fourth the price of land in the Sriperumbudur region, he said. The potential clients who will set up units inside the park have yet to be identified, said J.V. Ramamurthy, President, MAIT.

Dutch excipient player makes move on India (http://www.fiercepharmamanufacturing.com/story/dutch-excipient-player-makes-move-india/2013-02-20)

Suppliers are not only looking to buy APIs in Asia and India; they are also looking to sell them there. So hot on the heels of a deal that expanded its operations into Malaysia, Netherlands-based IMCD Group has picked up an API distributor in India.

The Dutch company said it acquired Mumbai-based Indchem International, which in-PharmaTechnologist.com reports primarily sells excipients in the Indian market. Its product line runs the gamut of compounds for solid and liquids to those for topicals and patches. IMCD spokeswoman Marina Kaptein tells the publication that the Netherlands-based company was "keen to establish ourselves in this sector." IMCD several months ago bought Maxwell Pharma, an ingredient and excipient distributor in Malaysia.

Other suppliers have been taking positions in India to tap the growing drug market there. The India division of West Pharmaceutical Services ($WST) last year got started on a 10-year building plan to create a packaging complex in Sri City, India, its first in that country. Also pharmaceutical glass and plastics manufacturer Gerresheimer in April picked up controlling interest in a pharma glass company in India.

The API manufacturing market also continues to spark M&A action. Just last month, Japanese conglomerate Mitsui paid ¥5.9 billion ($68 million) to bump its ownership in API maker Arch Pharmalabs from about 4% to 31%.

India's Sri City keen to attract Malaysian investors (http://www.nst.com.my/latest/india-s-sri-city-keen-to-attract-malaysian-investors-1.233316)

SriCity, a planned integrated business township located 55 km north of Chennai in Tamilnadu state, and along the border with Andhra Pradesh, is keen to attract Malaysian investors.

Sri City (P) Ltd’s Assistant General Manager for Marketing. V. Sandeep said there were opportunities for Malaysian companies to set-up manufacturing, logistic plants as well as develop golf resorts and housing projects.

The Sri City township comprises several zones such as industrial areas, residential plots, commercial areas and locations for recreation and educational centres.

"There are also industrial units for rent, leasing of land as well as sufficient manpower supply for Sri City investors," he said during the recent working visit by the Consul-General of Malaysia in Chennai, Chitra Devi Ramiah to Sri City.

She was accompanied by the Consul for Trade, Shah Nizam Ahmed. They were welcomed by Sandeep and Sri City’s Vice President, C.Saravanan.

The Consul-General and the delegation attended a meeting at the Sri City business centre, where they were briefed about the integrated township.

They were also taken on a tour of the township which is spread over 100 sq km. They visited several industrial units that had set up base in Sri City.

The visit was essentially for the Consul-General to gain a better understanding of the development underway in Sri City.

Following the visit to the township, Chitra told Bernama that the industrial developments in Sri City were very impressive and business friendly, particularly for foreign companies looking for an investment opportunity in India.

Approximately 84 multinational companies are already based in the area.

She said Sri City would be recommended to potential Malaysian companies interested in investing in India.

Chitra found the concept of Sri City, its infrastructural development and services to be similar to those of Putrajaya, the administrative capital of Malaysia and Cyberjaya, the country's Silicon Valley.

Electronics hardware cluster to come up in Sri City (http://www.business-standard.com/article/economy-policy/electronics-hardware-cluster-to-come-up-in-sri-city-113031400551_1.html)

Sri City and Elcina signed MoU in this regard on Thursday

Electronic Industries Association of India (Elcina) is setting up an electronics hardware manufacturing cluster (ESDM cluster) in Sri City, south India’s largest integrated business city consisting of a special economic zone, domestic tariff zone and a free trade warehousing zone.

Sri City is in Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh.

Sri City and Elcina signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in this regard on Thursday. This will enable the association members and other electronics manufacturers to set up facilities to address the domestic and export market. The ESDM cluster would consist of manufacturing units, mainly producing electronic components and parts.

In addition to modern support facilities and infrastructure, the cluster will house a common facility testing centre as well as facilities for training workers. Sri City will provide 50 acres of land for the cluster in Phase I and subject to demand, an additional 50 acres in Phase II.

“We are convinced that this cluster in Sri City will enable manufacturers to establish globally competitive facilities, expand manufacturing and address the challenge thrown at us by surging imports,” Elcina president, T Vasu, said.

According to Sri City managing director Ravindra Sannareddy, the current electronic hardware market in India is $75-80 billion, of which 60 per cent is imported. Hence, there is a huge opportunity for India to become an electronic hardware manufacturing hub. Sensing this opportunity, Sri City had tied up with Elcina to jointly work towards developing the ESDM cluster.

“Sri City has a ready mix of infrastructure, educational institutions, hospitals and logistics, which made it a natural choice for us to sign the MoU. These facilities will enable manufacturers to start operations with a short lead time,” Elcina secretary general, Rajoo Goel, said.

Isuzu Motor India signs MOU with AP government; To set up factory at Sri City (http://www.indiancarsbikes.in/cars/isuzu-motor-india-signs-mou-with-ap-government-to-set-up-factory-at-sri-city-68827/)

Japanese utility vehicle maker Isuzu has zeroed in on the Southern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh to set up its greenfield manufacturing facility. The Isuzu factory will come up at Sri City, an industrial corridor that abuts the Chennai-AP border. The location has been chosen keeping in mind the well developed port facilities of Chennai. Isuzu has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Andhra Pradesh government for the new factory. The Isuzu factory is expected to produce SUVs and pick up trucks for the Indian car and utility vehicle market.

The Isuzu factory is expected to begin production by 2015. The factory will have a yearly installed capacity of 100,000 units. Until production commences at its new factory in Sri City, Isuzu will continue to import its SUVs and pick up trucks from Thailand. The Japanese automaker is in advanced talks with Hindustan Motors to use the latter’s production line at Tiruvallur. Hindustan Motors’ Tiruvallur factory is expected to be used by Isuzu to assemble the MU-7 SUV and the D-Max range of pick up trucks through the completely knocked down(CKD) route.

CKD assembly is expected to reduce prices of the MU-7 SUV by more than 30%. Presently, Isuzu imports the MU-7 and the D-Max range as completely built units(CBU) from Thailand. CBU importation means that Isuzu pays the Indian government a hefty import duty on the MU-7 SUV, a factor that’s resulted in steep pricing of this luxury SUV. CKD assembly will reduce prices of this SUV, making it a lot more competitive against the likes of the Toyota Fortuner and the Ssangyong Rexton luxury SUVs. Isuzu has set up two dealerships in India, one at Hyderabad and the other at Coimbatore.

These dealerships sell the MU-7 and the D-Max range. In due course of time, Isuzu plans to open more dealerships across India.

Sub: Formation of a link road for a stretch of 5 Km from Seshaiahgunta near Adaram Village in K.V.B.Puram Mandal to UBBALAMADUGU eco-tourism centre Water Falls in Chittoor District of Andhra Pradesh –Promotion of Eco-tourism and development of infrastructure -- Sanction of funds under RIDF – Prayed necessary action – Regarding.

This is to submit that there is a long pending demand for the formation of a 5Km long link road from Seshaiahgunta near Adaram Village to UBBALAMADUGU Eco-tourist centre Water Falls in Chittoor District of Andhra Pradesh. The Panchayathraj Sub-division, Thottambedu have prepared an estimate for about Rs 3.6 crores about 2 decades ago which has to be revised in the light of new developments and the present scenario. This link road if completed under RIDF would facilitate the promotion of tourism around UBBALAMADUGU, Kalangi reservoir, Sadasiva Kona, Veyyilingala Kona, Gudimallam, Kalki Bhagawan Ashram, Kailasagiri Reservoir, Ubalamadugu reservoir apart from serving as the shortest and fastest link between Sricity SEZ where IIIT is establishing it’s second centre and Renigunta International Airport, Tirupati. Most of these places of pilgrim and tourist importance have already been included under the proposed heritage corridor sanctioned by Govt. of India recently along with the famous Pulicat Lake and Bird Sanctuary. The natural springs and water falls in UBBALAMADUGU , Ruins of British Bunglow and the 100 year old granite stair case and Siddulaiah temple attract thousands of tourists from the neighbouring Tamilnadu State. The alignment of the link road has to be redrawn taking into consideration of the formation of the new tank near Ubbalamadugu and estimated afresh. The distance between the Renigunta Airport and Sricity SEZ shall be reduced drastically to just 50 Km (Via) Kailasagiri Reservoir and Musilipedu with this link road. K.V.B.Puram Mandal which has been included in Sathyavedu assembly constituency shall have a direct and shortest link to the constituency head quarters at Sathyavedu. In view of the upcoming Chennai-Bangalore Industrial Corridor it is very much essential to form this link road from Adaram to Ubbalamadugu Water Falls via Nereduchelama at the earliest to keep in tune with the fast emerging scenario. This will transform the economy of about 50 gram panchayaths in Varadayyapalem ,B.N.Kandriga, Thottambedu ,Yerpedu and Renigunta mandals and will be a boon to the Heritage corridor also . Hence it is hereby prayed that your kind self may be pleased to instruct the concerned authorities to take the latest developments into consideration and initiate steps to execute the formation of this link road under RIDF/tourism at the earliest in coordination with the Tourism, Wild life management circle, Tirupati for the kind act of which the people of this part of the country would be grateful to your kind self throughout their lives.

Tecpro signs pact with Japanese major for better thermal power tech (http://www.thehindubusinessline.com/companies/tecpro-signs-pact-with-japanese-major-for-better-thermal-power-tech/article4721023.ece)

CHENNAI, MAY 16:
Chennai-headquartered Tecpro Systems Ltd has entered into an agreement with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Mechatronics Systems Ltd (MHI) of Japan for technology for manufacturing electro-static precipitators (ESPs) for thermal power projects.

With MHI technology, Tecpro will make the ESPs at its Rs 25-crore plant that is coming up in the Sri City industrial estate near Chennai. The tie-up could potentially result in business prospects of about Rs 500 crore a year, Tecpro Systems’ Chairman and Managing Director, Ajay Kumar Bishnoi, told Business Line today.

Electrostatic precipitators are nothing new in India —all coal-based thermal power projects here are equipped with them.

These are needed to trap and remove particulate matter from the exhaust gases from boilers. So what makes MHI technology any different?

Arvind Bishnoi, Director at Tecpro, observed that there were two major advantages to MHI technology. Typically, an ESP system costs Rs 50 crore.
