I believe HSBC paid Canary Wharf plc £780 million for the freehold of its headquarters at Canary Wharf, London, which is well over a billion dollars. I doubt that it cost a billion dollars to build though.

And the value of it now days would be I would say around $1.5-$2 billion, after they built the Crown Promenade Hotel.

Although it's not a skyscraper, the Australian Parliament House cost AU$1.1 billion in 1988. Arguably, one of the most beautiful government buildings on Earth

^It is the icon of democracy in south-east Asia. And you'ld be absolutely amazed at what is below there. You could pretty much run the world from under there.
I wish I had photos of it just after 9/11. It became Fortress Australia. The public wasn't allowed near it for a couple of weeks, and now pernamently can't walk up the roof. Inside the Australian Parliament house, there is the second largest tapestry on Earth, one of three copies of the Magna Carta and the table that Queen Victoria officially signed Australia's independance on in 1901. They are just a few of the many artifacts in there.

Australia is not part of or will ever be part of south east asia.
and nationalistic pride aside, i dont think australia can ever be an icon of democracy. its a country that only acknowledged aborigines were people (yes you read that correctly, prior to that they were considered 'fauna & flora') in the 1960s. Yes, less than 40 years ago.

Yes, and not everyone supports that. But you have to use your brain, Hitesh. 40 years ago, the world was a different place. Black people weren't treated the same a white people then. And not just in Australia, but all around the world. I'm not saying that that was good policy, I'm just saying that that is how things WERE.
Secondly, Australia is probably the least corrupt government on EARTH! Australia is a symbol of Democracy. ESPECIALLY IN SE ASIA, if not the world. And if it wasn't, what is? The corrupt PNG government? Indonesia's rookie democracy? Malaysia? Thailand? WHAT COUNTRY IN THE SEA REGION IS MORE DEMOCRATIC THAN AUSTRALIA?
hypermount

I wouldn't consider Australia a part of SEA.
Democracy has its flaws and not perfect. What makes you think Australia's democracy is superior or being more democratic is better. I would just say the mould of Australian's democracy is just different from the rest in the region.
I don't know...I'm asking myself this since when Australia is considered a symbol of democracy, nobody knows that, nobody isn't ignorant about that, nobody thinks that way...this is the very country who supported an illegal war based on an invalid reason, this is the very country who said she got the right to strike terrorist targets in SEA without considering first the views of other nations...you know that kind of pre-emptive thingy. It's a plain show arrogance and self-rightenous altitude which also could be found in the above post.
If Australia really care about democracy, it would listen to other countries who are not in favour invading Iraq...nah...I wouldn't think much...just simply say democracy is not perfect.

The Greater South-East Asia Region.
And Australia did listen to other country's opinions about Iraq. We just made our own decision. And really, where do you draw the line for an 'illegal war?' If the coalition's war in Iraq was illegal, then so was every Israeli war. Infact, there have been several small wars fought since the UN was created, that haven't had their support. Does that make them all illegal? According to you guys, yes. But why do you keep coming back to this one 'illegal' war? Why don't you keep having a go at the USSR's attack on Afghanistan? Because it was 20 years ago. WAS IT STILL 'ILLEGAL?' HELL YES!

This one supposed illegal war is happening right now and can be stopped that is why people keep coming back to this illegal war. Also as for australia being a continent on its own isnt australia on the continent of australiasia? I think I've heard it in geography class before. At least we stand up for what we believe in instead of doing what other people say we should.
And just because SE Asia is on the same continental plate as Europe, doesn't mean that SEA is part of Europe. That's like saying that India is a part of Australia.

Nagoya Station's Twin Towers, Roppongi Hills Tower and the AOL Time Warner Centre are the 3 most expensive towers to date in that order (non-adjusted for inflation).
Nagoya Station is the world's largest by floor area. 2 massive 50 storey skyscrapers and 15-20 storeys of shops between them. It's mammoth. As is Roppongi Hills tower in Tokyo.....this has some of the largest floorplates of any skyscraper.
I imagine that the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Buildings in Shinjuku weren't cheap either. Japan might be in a recession but its still absolutely loaded.

I'm sure the Pentagon was more expensive if you adjust it for inflation. The figures for Roppongi Hills and Nagoya Station are unadjusted for inflation.

london bridge tower will cost 1.2 billion pounds, thats over 2 billion dollars. this makes it i believe the worlds most expensive skyscraper.
london is the place though where you spend say £300 million simply buying land. britannic house sold for £300 million and natwest tower for £226 million.

Wasn't the HSBC tower in Hong Kong amazingly expensive as well?
To be honest Gothic, although the LBT renders look lovely, the TMGB in Shinjuku are absolutely massive, as is Nagoya Station and Roppongi Hills. I can't imagine that the LBT would cost more than these. Per square foot the LBT is probably more but these 3 are massive, massive buildings.....around 4 million square feet each!
