No - if you are referring to the red ones with the 'Prima' badging upfront, they are Tata's own. But quite a few have remarked about design similarities with IVECOs.

The Prima designs are all part of the World Truck range Tata developed post 2005, their first attempt at building more modern trucks. They are all cummins powered BTW.

TATA and IVECO had alliance some time back but not sure about the model.

That would be Ashok Leyland, not Tata. The direct result of that alliance is the Ashok Leyland 'Cargo' model with the ubiquitous Ford Cargo cab. In fact, the design influence/lineage is still there in all the newer Ashok Leyland designs including some vague influences the latest U-truck models.

The Ashok Leyland Cargo 909(Sourced from an online classified on Olx.in)
http://images01.olx.in/ui/1/12/12/14781012_1.jpg

Tata have historically been close to Mercedes-Benz, right from the days of the M-B 312 which was license built by Tata for decades till. Even today the non-Prima range of Tata trucks feature cabs that closely resemble M-B designs from the past.

You're welcome Vicvin86.

BTW I must say that you are doing a commendable job by capturing and posting all these Indian CV pictures on World Forums.

Our CV industry has been evolving in seclusion through the pre-reform days and it is only now that changes are taking place quite rapidly - although there is still some way to go before we catch up to the global leaders.

Kudos to you for building awareness about them out here.:applause:

Hello, very interesting thread.

Here is my contribution from the Latin American forum.

Trucks in México are mostly from US brands like Freightliner, Kenworth and Navistar. We used to have local brands like DINA, Ramirez, FAMSA and Peña Motor. DINA is still on business with short distance buses.

European trucks are not as popular as in South America but MAN has a plant in México, as well as Scania. Mercedes Benz is returning the next year with its European line, ans DAF has just entered.

Smaller trucks and delivery vehicules are mostly Japanese, Korean or European. Isuzu, Hino, FUSO (marketed by Freightliner),Hyundai, FIAT, Mercedes Benz, Renault and Volkswagen are the most popular.

http://img268.imageshack.us/img268/4247/img0244fu.jpg

A DAF made Kenworth KW45 in Mexico City.

A Mercedes Benz L series also in southern Mexico City.

More pictures to come.

This is a Freightliner Business Class. They have Mercedes engines. It is very popular in Mexico.

Single axle trucks are called "rabones" ( sin. "rabón") while tandem axle are called "tortons". Honestly, I don´t know why but it is very likely to have originated in heavily distorted English pronunciation.

http://images.segundamano.com.mx/2011/09/09/7472305/25735038.jpg

A 1994 Dodge. These were specially made for Latin American markets and exported from Mexico. They were also assembled in Venezuela. Some has petrol engines but most were replaced by Perkins Phase 4 diesels. This is a "rabón".

A 1985 Chevrolet C60. These were formerly urban delivery with closed boxes but as big fleets replaced them with cabover trucks, most have migrated to farms. They have diesel engines but some were sold new with a 350cu petrol engine.

Thanks for your comment!!

Those Mercedes were designed in Germany for the Latin American market and initially made in Brazil and later in Argentina and Mexico. They were very similar otherwise to the old L series.

In Mexico bonneted Scanias were sold until recently but they were not as popular as American brands. They have been replaced by the European series.

Volvo bonneted VN´s however have fared much better.

I will put more pictures of European trucks operating in Mexico.

Freightliner, Kenworth, Navistar and U.S. spec. Volvo are the most popular. Some older DINA, Ramirez, and White are still seen.

More trucks...

Here some oldies... from Hanktruckspictures.com

http://www.hankstruckpictures.com/pix/trucks/sergio_ramon/2004/mar/freigthliner.jpg

An old Freighliner "torton" (it seems the word is a deformation of Thronton).

http://www.hankstruckpictures.com/pix/trucks/sergio_ramon/2004/mar/penamotor.jpg

Looks deceive.... It is a Peña Motor, not a Kenworth. They were license built locally but used different internals...

http://www.hankstruckpictures.com/pix/trucks/sergio_ramon/2004/mar/volvo.jpg

These Volvo-White were built briefly in Mexico, in GM Toluca plant.

Here are pictures taken in the early 90´s...

Most of these trucks have been scrapped or are still in service in much smaller numbers...

http://www.hankstruckpictures.com/pix/trucks/donq/2004/jan/mex/belair_famsa_tractors_with_bunk.jpg

Two FAMSA tractors. They were license built from International.

http://www.hankstruckpictures.com/pix/trucks/donq/2004/jan/mex/tricar_ramirez_r22_2.jpg

A local development. This is a Ramirez R22. The bulges on the cab´s doors allowed the seats to be folded down into a bed, in case a sleeper was not installed.

http://www.hankstruckpictures.com/pix/trucks/donq/2004/jan/mex/ramirez_r22_3.jpg

Another Ramirez. This series was launched in 1972 and lasted up to 1995. This is an early model.

http://www.hankstruckpictures.com/pix/trucks/donq/2004/jan/mex/ramirez_r22_4_silver.jpg

This is the mid 80´s redesign. There were later versions with flush headlights and a more rounded bonnet.

http://www.hankstruckpictures.com/pix/trucks/donq/2004/jan/mex/dina_fleet_lineup.jpg

These DINA 861 tractors were license built from International Transtar series...

http://www.hankstruckpictures.com/pix/trucks/donq/2004/jan/mex/dina_861_with_grain_trailer.jpg

Another DINA. The twin vertical headlights were the latest addition in 1989, before the series was discontinued.

http://www.hankstruckpictures.com/pix/trucks/donq/2004/feb15/famsa_grain_truck.jpg

This is a late series DINA 531. Although based in the International Loadstar, internals were completely different, including very noisy and distinctive Perkins engines. They are now confined to remote areas within Mexico

http://www.hankstruckpictures.com/pix/trucks/donq/2004/feb15/famsa_refrigerated_truck.jpg

Another DINA. This time is a 631 which used a bigger Perkins engine and another gearbox for improved performance, thus requiering a bigger bonnet.

http://www.hankstruckpictures.com/pix/trucks/donq/2006/may28/international-mexico.jpg

This is an original International Loadstar. Comparing with the DINA, bonnets were different, grilles and headlights. Internals too; Loadstars used Detroit Diesel two-strokes.

Yes indeed. Brazilian trucking is mostly European influenced, although I remeber seeing a lot of Chevrolet, Ford, Kenworth, Mack and Navistar.

Those pictures are old, but European trucks have only 10% of the local market share, at least in Mexico. I will post modern trucks tomorrow.

There is a similar thread in the general Latin American forums.

Modern European and Brazilian trucks in Mexico.

DAF is to be sold locally but there are two medium models that had been offered since 2005 but marketed as Kenworth. They are built in the Mexicali plant.

MAN also builds locally in its Queretaro plant, shared with Volkswagen. Volvo imports the VLE series nad build loally the bonneted VN series for the North American market.

The market is still dominated by US firms, but Scania had some success until they decided to concentrate in buses and special vehiclues. They are back in 2012 with tractors.

MAN has been selling since 2008 with limited sales while Volvo is more succesful with its American VN series. Anyway Volkswagen has been selling well since its introduction in 2004 and they have announced the Constellation series for this year.

Another brand returning with European trucks is Mercedes Benz.

Japanese trucks look closer to European one than to American one, but are generally much smaller. It is also less common to see trailers - full trailers like the pic below are extremely rare.

Normal-size truck brands in Japan include Isuzu (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isuzu), Hino (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hino_Motors) (Toyota Group), Mitsubishi Fuso (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mitsubishi_Fuso_Truck_and_Bus_Corporation) (Formerly Mitsubishi Group, now under Daimler), Toyota and UD Trucks (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UD_Trucks) (Formerly Nissan Group, now under Volvo). According to the statistics, foreign brands comprise 4% of the total sales.

Other than normal size trucks, which are already tiny in the Western standard, Japan also has kei trucks (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kei_truck), micro-trucks within the size of kei cars (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kei_car). They are very useful in Japanese country side with narrow roads. In fact, thay are often the most common vehicles seen on the country side, along with passenger kei cars.
Current kei truck makers include Suzuki, Daihatsu, Honda, Mitsubishi and Subaru. Toyota, Nissan and Mazda also sale rebadged models.

Btw, there is another American truck in Ljungby. I think that's a Kenworth too. It's always parked in a industrial area. I will try to make a picture of it next time I'm in Ljungby.

do you mean the name of the brand is INTERNATIONAL ? or do you mean the trucks are international ?

Very long trailer on that Transpaolo vehicle. Are those allowed on all roads?

Where in Brazil does Scania have their assembly plants ?

Yeah, the brand is International trucks.

Yes, they are allowed except in holidays like easter, christmas, carnival.

The Scania-Brasil have their assembly in Sao Bernado do Campo, sao paulo state.

No idea :dunno:

I just found this small video of the accident, you can see how is the street there. Very strange to go out of track in that point. I guess either the driver felt bad, or an obstacle on the street like a cyclist or an hazard surpass of a car in the contrary way. I'll wait the newspaper to know something more. I just know the driver is injuried and he couldn't go out of the cabin, that why they took longer to put it on the road again

I thought they only sold in ex-SSSR countries.
