View Full Version : Eritrean refugees and residents in Ethiopia AlexBelay November 10th, 2011, 06:36 PM @erifly, No SAWA photo :bash: DiogenesClub November 10th, 2011, 07:36 PM Erifly, ignore some of the more idiotic comments here. By the way I noticed that you said you couldn't come to Ethiopia because of the current political situation. I came to Ethiopia this summer with an Eritrean friend and I can assure you no restrictions will be placed on your freedom of movement, or your safety, so long as you're not a government official or something of some sort. Hope you visit! Bekele100 November 11th, 2011, 06:42 AM Erifly, ignore some of the more idiotic comments here. Hope you visit! I agree with you. Eritreans can visit Ethiopia with no major restrictions. As a matter of fact, some Eritreans are also investing in Ethiopia. yosiast November 11th, 2011, 07:44 AM I agree with you. Eritreans can visit Ethiopia with no major restrictions. As a matter of fact, some Eritreans are also investing in Ethiopia. Not only that, Eritreans can now even claim and regain properties, money, businesses etc they left behind when they were deported at the start of the war. I also recently watched on Etv that about 400 young Eritreans who had been at refugee camps in Tigray have been given a full scholarship to Addis Ababa University by the Ethiopian government. Other Eritrean refugees are now allowed to leave the refugee camps and enroll in universities if they want to. Isn't that doing a bit too much for people (well most Eritreans not all) who don't want to be associated with anything Ethiopian? Yoniii November 11th, 2011, 08:16 AM Let them live and invest in Ethiopia, but paying for their university costs? Meles is a fool, these people will bounce as quick as the Isaias regime falls. Simfan34 November 12th, 2011, 04:31 AM Can we please close this thread? yosiast November 13th, 2011, 02:36 AM Let them live and invest in Ethiopia, but paying for their university costs? Meles is a fool, these people will bounce as quick as the Isaias regime falls. With all due respect, they barely have enough money to feed themselves let alone invest in Ethiopia. I don't know why Ethiopian governments past and present are always too nice to Eritreans who always view Ethiopia with obvious contempt. DiogenesClub November 13th, 2011, 07:28 PM Let them live and invest in Ethiopia, but paying for their university costs? Meles is a fool, these people will bounce as quick as the Isaias regime falls. So what? We're not educating them so that they could be spies for us in the future. It's because its a decent and a very Ethiopian thing to do. Easy with the bile Yoni. With all due respect, they barely have enough money to feed themselves let alone invest in Ethiopia. I don't know why Ethiopian governments past and present are always too nice to Eritreans who always view Ethiopia with obvious contempt. The problem is not that we are too nice to them, rather we've been too rough on developing our own country. Hailessilassie and the Derg did nothing for Ethiopia. They should be criticized for that and not for their treatment of Eritreans, good or otherwise. Meles is at least putting some effort into transforming the country. Again he should be praised or criticized for what he is doing for Ethiopia and not on how he treats Eritreans. Self-realization, instead of destruction of the 'other', must be our focus. Anyway, to Erifly, consider my previous advice. The Emperor is resting is resting in Trinity Cathedral, Mengistu Hailemariam no longer roams Addis Ababa imperiously and is now a resident of Harare and the old generation is slowly being replaced by a new one. A new age has dawned. Yoniii November 13th, 2011, 11:02 PM So what? We're not educating them so that they could be spies for us in the future. It's because its a decent and a very Ethiopian thing to do. Easy with the bile Yoni. Our government should spend the limited budget they have on educating Ethiopians, we all know that it's needed. We are not a developed country with unlimited resources, we must prioritize our own people first. yosiast November 14th, 2011, 08:51 PM The problem is not that we are too nice to them, rather we've been too rough on developing our own country. Self-realization, instead of destruction of the 'other', must be our focus.[/QUOTE] All governments should be praised or criticized for what they have done and are doing for their people - no question about that. It is in that spirit I'm asking why all Ethiopian governments have spent massively on Eritrea only for Eritreans to turn against them time and again. It's the same old cycle and it will never change. Hence, the folly of the present administration spending its meager resources on giving Eritrean refugees full scholarships. I bet the same kids who are getting this benefit now will be the first ones to turn their back on Ethiopia 10 or 15 years from now. DiogenesClub November 15th, 2011, 07:17 PM Our government should spend the limited budget they have on educating Ethiopians, we all know that it's needed. We are not a developed country with unlimited resources, we must prioritize our own people first. They number, at most a couple of hundred Eritreans. That is a microscopic amount compared to the students we graduated this year alone. And when we factor in the PR advantages, I think you'll agree with me that its well worth the tiny fraction of money we spend. Yoniii November 15th, 2011, 10:24 PM Makes sense, but who's the PR directed at? EriFly November 16th, 2011, 02:25 AM Erifly, ignore some of the more idiotic comments here. Hope you visit! The problem isnt going to Ethiopia, The problem is going to Eritrea after going to Ethiopia. I really dont think Ethiopia should be giving Eritreans free education. Dont get me wrong when i say that because they are leaving the country by themselves, they shouldn't expect anyone to help them. What i would do is go to sawa, use it to my advantage and get a degree in something, then i would leave the country. I wonder what Woyane's secret agenda is though, because a government has a reason for everything they do. The only way i see Eritrea and Ethiopia being allies again is when the people at the 40 year old mark and older are dead, no offence. Because these have got to be the most stubborn and arrogant habeshas I know, including both countries governments. |
