No, there are a couple of kilometers between the two projects :)

How close to each other are all these highrise proposals located? It seems to me that Aarhus can get the best skyline in Denmark if not one of the best in our region if all these proposals goes through. But it does of course depends on how close to each other they are located (will they make a skyline together?).

All the proposed highrises will not make a skyline together. The distance between some of them are too large. But some of them will be close to each other and form 2 or 3 smaller clusters with existing highrises. IMO Oslo is #1 when it comes to a new funky skyline :)

^^ Thank you for your 'Aarhus visit' Hafnia :) Yes, the skyline is growing. The last photo is from ringgadebroen. Åhusene looks great, however I would prefere 4 or 5 instead of 9 similar highrises on this location, BUT I love highrises and the world economy is a joke these days, so I'm just happy something is being built on that location..if you know what I mean :)

In two-three years this skyline will bechanged with the addition of the Værkmestergade highrise as the heighest and hopefully the Europaplads 16 highrise too.

But looking at the timetable just have to be very, very patient.

In 2013 we will pick a winning project.

In 2014 we will work on planning.

In 2015 - 2018 we will build the darned thing.
And send out invitations to the queen in 2017 (?).

The only excuse that project has - is that the project promises an ''iconic'' building.
Certainly, something that must be delivered with that timetable ...

And IMHO it must also be taller than 100 meters to qualify as ''iconic'' in todays architectural landscape. Even things like the Guggenheim in NYC, the Swiss RE etc. are actually quite big when you think about it.

Even though AU is expanding (And not to forget Navitas), then the high uptake of students and the transfer of employees to Campus Aarhus from other locations due to the restructuring proces will necessitate a lot of available space also in the short horizon. I do not think the delay is related to a lack of need.

Next in line is also Cowi and PwC, who I am sure are looking for new premises these days, simply because AU needs their sqm in Nobelparken. I think we will hear more regarding this in 2012 or 2013.

Great to see all of the construction going on these days. Especially pleasing to see the start of building "L" of the lighthouse - It gives some genuine hope that the start of building "T" is not that far off now then.

But you certainly need to have patience in the construction buisness. It reminds me of the story of when they built the Salisbury Cathedral (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salisbury_Cathedral). It took some 38 years to build (which was considred quick back then). And only after that, they finally put in the tower, the skyscraper at the day, which went up to 123 meters, dominating the skyline since 1320 (and built totally without all the safety gear we have today).

So, patience, patience I know.

All, of this said I still miss some individually threads here, where you can follow whats going on with the projects, which somehow doesn't get so much press, compared to the superstar projects, like the LightHouse and the KPC building.

I.e. I have searched for new information about the highrise in Skejby, Ceres estate, and Viborgvej, but without much luck.

Generaly speaking - I think the city councils overall plan is great. Where these highrises will contribute in a positive way to the overall city design.
I.e. the projects combined contribution will give the city a needed lift. And, together, the projects will certainly make good economic sense (E.g. see articles about how conferences are big business:

Following this line of thought, then each of these projects will also prosper in its own right!

But when you don't hear anything from them for a while, you begin to worry: Has the financial crisis killed off yet another great project?

We have heard that they have the financing in place.
And the project ought to provide some spectacular views! And when you can make a project like Siloetten (http://www.siloetten.dk/) in Loegten, and actually make a profit on that - Then surely you should be able to do the same thing in Skejby?
With the Hospital project and the developments in ''Nye'' - The project does seem to be placed in just the right place, just between land and city.

I tried looking at the architects homepage, www.luplau-poulsen.dk for news, sadly that link doesn't work anymore. Which made me go hmmm.

The only news I can see is that they were out looking for tenants back in 2010.
So,
Q1: For how long will these guys be out looking for tenants?
Will they wait for everything else to be built around them, and the financial crisis to be over?

I think I have looked everywhere - But apparently not in the right places - So, here I have also missed individual threads on these projects.

Q2: Again, I am wondering what the actually status are on these highrises.
Obviously, I hope that the financing institutions can see that they are viable individually. Especially, when you look at the big picture of what the city councils vision is for the future of the city. And that they are needed as highrise "to frame" the overall city landscape. But, obviosuly it all comes down to whether you have faith in the future or not.

Lastly, there is the "Store Robert sculpture" - By now it should be well known that I am not a fan of that scuplture.
I think it symbolizes a bygone era of industrialism - and not the future we are planning for. An ideal spot for that sculture would be the "B&W" dock areas in Copenhagen - where the symbolism would be appropriate, imho.

Stunningly, when I surfed for news about the status of the project I read:
Vi er lige nu i gang med at finde ud af, hvem der vil og kan støbe skulpturen. Men før vi får den side på plads, kender vi heller ikke den nøjagtige økonomi. Really, I thought they had the money - and the only problem was where to put the sculpture?!

What a great thing if these efforts could be put into some other project - with a more inspirational character. Surely, the Aarhus harbour area stilll needs at least one more breathtaking construction - again for the synergi effect, and for the city.

As, mentioned elsewhere I fancy something like the
Linkoping Greenhouse (http://m-teknik.idg.se/2.8229/1.432552/forsta-spadtaget-nu-byggs-linkopings-jattevaxthus), where you mix a greenhouse with office buildings.

You could make a pedestrian walkthrough of the commercial greenhouse. Put a cafe on top of the building. Combine with something like the Barcelona Rock (http://jetsetta.com/travel/barcelona-rock/) (here Aarhus Rock, obviously) - Really, you are only limited by your own imagination.
And I certainly, hope that the ''Store Robert''-project could be steered into something like that instead - Which will add to the city, not just be a celebration of one particular artist. Afterall, if you are going to asks fonds and big companies anyway, (like Maersk?) for donations - then I think there are better projects for Aarhus out there. Especially, if we are talking things in the 200 million kroner prize range.

So, not so worried that we haven't heard so much about that Robert-project recently. But, similiar "sculpture-like" big projects would be nice to hear more about.

First of all, no one knows anything about Sky Tower. Niels Albrechtsen is keeping his mouth shut. To be earnest, I dont see anything being bulid in the next few years.

The Ceres highrise has just been proposed, so of cause no one knows where that is going to end. The only thing we know is, that VIA is going to build a campus on the Ceres-ground. The highrise will be bulid later. You shouldn't worry about that. Viborgvej is a bigger question. I don't know anything about that.

I think we can assume that Sky Tower is dead based on this article from today:

The architects of Sky Tower (Luplau & Poulsen) are building a new 3-storey hotel in Skejby next to the hospital. It would be a competitor to the hotel in Sky Tower, so their new hotel project must be the result of Sky Tower being dead.

Sky Tower is still available for business rental on Colliers website though.

Sorry, Blingchampion but it is dead. You can laugh all you want but a small architectural firm is taking the initiative for a hotel in suburban Skejby whilst at the same time having drawn a hotel highrise including business in the same area. It is just too strange that Luplau & Poulsen are doing this when they are not a property developing firm but an architectural firm.

BTW. The bank connection of Niels Albertsen is Vestjysk Bank and they surely do not have the money to finance a 115 m highrise in Skejby with no tenants after more than four years in the market. With the continued economic crisis I have difficulty seeing how any hotel operator would be willing to take the risk of opening a hotel that far away from the central station. The only three hotel projects being realized at the moment is Scandic Aarhus City, Comwell and the AarhusKarlshamn hotel project and what do they have in common? They are all three within close proximity to the central station.

But I would love to be proved wrong by Niels Albertsen starting construction.

Don't get me wrong, I know what you are saying, but I think it is to fast to just assume that it is dead, when we have hardely any information about the future of this project, Asbjørn. I think it is rather prematurely, when you speculate and theorize your info as facts...Sorry, Blingchampion but it is dead....until you have some solid evidence.

I too have my worries concerning this hotel project, but there is no point in guessing. The world is a crazy financial roller coaster these days and anything can happen :)

^^ Thanks a lot Aarhusforever, looks great so far, although i'm not crazy about the transparent blue balconies of severels reasons: 1-2-3 they're stuffed with empty/full beer cases, old umbrellas, furnitures aso.. And some people living there, cover them in different colors and materials.
This will leave an impression of a messy and butt ugly building.

^^ I don't think, I agree on that. It will bring life to the buildings and show, that people actually lives there. My biggest concern (as usual, I know) is, will there be room for shops etc. in some of the ground floors? Will there be intimate spaces in between the buildings? And will there be something to give some variaty after all (except from the shape ofcourse)? In generel I like the development so fare, though?

A picture of the buildings can be found in the below URL. Personally, I like the simple architecture of the project.

I found some renderings of the La Tour twin towers, which i have not seen before.
Does anyone know if it is completely dead?
Also it is new for me that they seem to be entirely residential except for the ground floor.
I thought they were meant to be an extension of the existing Hotel La Tour, at least partly.

Sorry guys, but the project has been dead for a long time. The page you're linking to was updated last time in 2006 and nothing has been heard from the project since 2007.

Ok. I could not find the info about when it was last updated, but since you say 2006 i think it is dead too.
I hope something gets build on the spot though, because of it's location you will only need to build about ten stories to get a brilliant view, and with the future lightrail running just next to it I think it will be quite attractive.

Problem is that page is not updated either, it mentions a lot of projects which have been officially dead for a long time too so I would doubt the credibility of linking to aarhuscity-info.dk. Det 'en betydelig ændring i forholdet mellem matte og gennemsigtige overflader, vil jeg sige, at det blev vendt. Komplekset taber så meget i udseende og gennemsigtighed, men måske hverken vinde i energieffektivitet og anlægsudgifterne. Hvad mener du? Det var absolut bestilleren har at stille disse ændringer. Alt for dårlig, fordi den oprindelige design løsning var langt mere afbalanceret og opløst op for lyden, men nu fremhævet og massivitet af bygningen ... og en masse vægt ...
