Hello friends its news from Government officials that the BRTS between Hubli-Dharwad mostly cancelled because of our dirty politicians who have there land towards the road and they are not ready to loose. So our BJP MLA,s hands are very powerfull in this issue so we(H_D people) have to demand and we should get that project for Future, otherwise we will be always in backward for development... Shame on The DIRTY POLITICIANS.......

vspdwd
December 19th, 2011, 11:11 AM
^^Hey shivanand which govt officials did you ask?
Regarding politicians, they were dirty, are dirty and will remain dirty forever....and may become dirtier.
But BRTS requires huge space which hardly exists between Hubli and Dharwad. Not only politicians but common people too
will lose their land. Even if the project continues there will be huge delays because of protests for compensation etc. So it was quite obvious that BRTS wouldn't be feasible.

BANGALORE: Karnataka government today gave its green signal to take up second phase of Bangalore metro project at an investment of about Rs 27,000 crore.

Water Resources Minister Basavaraj Bommai told reporters after a cabinet meeting, chaired by Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda, that the second phase covering 72 km is planned to be completed by 2017.

The 42-km first phase is slated to be completed by next year-end.

Higher Education Minister V S Acharya said the Cabinet also gave the go-ahead for improving 831 km of 11 roads under the Karnataka State Highway Improvement Project (KSHIP), second stage, first phase, with a USD 351 million loan assistance from the World Bank.

It was also decided to establish a modern agriculture market on a 20-acre plot at Byatarayanapura here. It would have cold storage, grading and marketing facilities. Sobha Developers would be given the contract to develop this project, expected to be ready in two years.

The government would spend Rs 105 crore for this project, while Sobha Developers would also make some investments, Acharya said.

A bus rapid transit system for the twin cities of Hubli-Dharwad also got the Cabinet nod. In this Rs 452 project, there would be two dedicated lanes for state-run buses plying between the two cities.

The Cabinet also finalised the know partner and transaction advisor for the Global Investors' Meet scheduled for June this year, with Ernst & Young winning the contract, Acharya added.

HUBLI: The Hubli-Dharwad four-lane road will be complete by May 2013 and it is a Rs 177 crore project, said district minister Jagadish Shettar.

Speaking to mediapersons here on Monday, Shettar said that the project would take 2 years to finish. There are no objections for land acquisition from property owners. They will give the land for road widening because it's a public work and will help them also, he said.

There are no objections from anyone between Sana College and ISKCON temple, so the work will start from that place. The road will be widened by 30 metres. From Naveen Hotel to Vidyagiri, concrete roads will be made. "For the four-lane road we have to occupy nearly 40 acres of land," he added.

Shettar gave the clarification for the delay of the four-lane project, and said, "We planned to start the BRTS and four-lane project at a time, so it took a 7 to 8 month delay to start the project."

"Hubli-Dharwad Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) project has got approval from the cabinet, and we will send the project file to central government, after getting its permission, it will go for the approval from the World Bank. It may take six months for all this," he said.

The BRTS project will get more funds from the state government and the remaining funds will given by the central government and World Bank. Ten percent amount will be provided by the Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation.

Four-lane Hubli-Dharwad road by May 2013

Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister and district-in-charge Jagadish Shettar said that four-laning of the road between Hubli and Dharwad had gathered momentum and the work was likely to be completed by the end of May 2013.

He was addressing a press conference here on Monday after inspecting the ongoing work on the 19.5 km road.

Mr. Shettar said that the Karnataka Road Development Corporation had started work on the road and added that. shifting of the power, water supply lines and telephone cables had begun.

He said that 40 acres of land had been acquired for four-laning the existing two-lane road. “Of the 19.5 km of road, a 13 kilometre stretch between Naveen Hotel in Hubli and Vidyagiri in Dharwad will be concretised while the rest will be asphalted,” the Minister said.

He added that the four-lane road would be 17.5 meters wide and there would be 10 metre wide service roads.

Mr. Shettar said that the work on the concrete road would begin from the centre of the existing road. “Work will begin immediately on the three km stretch between Sana College and the ISKCON temple,” he said. “The work on providing an alternative road for the public has already begun,” he said.

The Minister said there would be no toll for the usage of the four-lane road.

Mr. Shettar said the Cabinet had given its nod for construction of a Bus Rapid Transit System between the twin cities. “The proposal will now be sent to the Union Government for approval,” he said.

Mr. Shettar said that the BRTS project was likely to be implemented in two phases and another 40 to 50 acres of land would have to be acquired for it.

He said it would take another two years for the BRTS project to take off as it had to go through several phases of approval and planning.

Deputy Commissioner of Dharwad Darpan Jain said the process of acquiring 168 acres of land for constructing a bypass road connecting the Bijapur-Gadag road and Pune-Bangalore National Highway had begun.

There is enough space for bypass to be widened, but widening would be of no use once this SH (old NH 4 aka PB road) gets 4/6 laned that too concerete for 75% length. Bypass would then be used only by trucks.

FUTURE BRTS MAP OF HUBLI??

Instead of running the BRTS along the edge i.e. on PB road they can build an exclusive third link with chord roads and have dedicated bus lanes, that will pave way for planned growth in between the two parallel roads and also ensuring speedy connectivity between the twins.

I wish to link that exclusive bus lane with Gokul road which is wide enough to accommodate BRTS and link Hubli city.

Karnataka to replicate Ahmedabad’s bus rapid transport system model

AHMEDABAD: The city is lending a helping hand to Hubli-Dharwad, the second-largest urban spread in Karnataka after Bangalore. The Centre for Environmental Planning and Technology (Cept) University has shown the way to the aggregation, which is suffering because of overloaded public transport service, by designing a BRTS for the twin city.

A Rs 450-crore project has been proposed, including Bus Rapid Transport System (BRTS) between Hubli and Dharwad. Cept University has been roped in as a consultant for the project which covers a stretch of 22.2 km.

"We have suggested lanes for overtaking on the 20-km stretch, which is something we do not have in Ahmedabad. There is heavy road traffic on the stretch as Hubli is a commercial hub and Dharwad an educational centre. It is estimated that around 2 lakh people commute every day on the 20-km stretch between Hubli-Navanagar and Dharwad. An efficient public transport system is urgently needed there," said Shivanand Swamy of Cept, a key member of the team that designed BRTS in Ahmedabad.

The chairman of North Western Karnatak Road Transport Corporation (NWKRTC) Mallikarjun Savakar; chairman of Hubli-Dharwad Urban Development Authority Lingaraj Patil; visited Ahmedabad on Wednesday to observe the services of BRTS in Ahmedabad.

Managing director of NWKRTC Hemaraju said, "Ahmedabad has the best BRTS service in the country, and we plan to replicate the same in the twin cities." World Bank has already offered a loan.

This would be the fourth BRTS project for which CEPT has been invited to design. Earlier, it was invited to design for Ahmedabad, Surat and Indore BRTS systems. The next project will be implemented in Vadodara soon.

NWKRTC may shift new Hubli bus-stand (http://www.thehindu.com/todays-paper/tp-national/tp-karnataka/article3386374.ece)

The plan is to move it from Gokul Road to Hosur

Improvement ahead?:Minister for Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Jagadish Shettar inaugurating the newly formed Dharwad division of the North West Karnataka Road Transport Corporation in Dharwad on Friday.
The North West Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (NWKRTC) is planning to shift the new Hubli bus-stand from Gokul Road to Hosur, according to Minister for Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Jagadish Shettar.

Speaking after inaugurating the newly formed NWKRTC Dharwad division here on Friday, Mr. Shettar said if the plan worked out, the new bus-stand would be shifted to the premises of the Hubli depot at Hosur, and the depot to Gokul Road. The Bus Rapid Transport System (BRTS) proposed for Hubli-Dharwad had necessitated this change, which would be convenient for passengers, he added.

Facelift

The Cabinet had given its approval to BRTS, under which bus-stands and terminals would get a facelift. A team of local legislators and others recently visited Ahmedabad to study BRTS, which had been working there for the last three years.

It could be used as a model for Hubli-Dharwad with certain modifications, the Minister said.

Mr. Shettar said efforts were on to convince the Union government to sanction projects under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) for Hubli-Dharwad. As the population of Hubli-Dharwad had reached 10 lakh, the city was eligible for it, he said.

But for 8-laned road huge land needs to be acquired and thats where problems arise.:ohno:

Dr Yaqoob can you put those stretches on map? green for spacious and red for congested,we can get some idea about those lands which need to be acquired.

Karnataka Govt. rope in Consultant for Hubli-Dharwad BRTS
Thursday, 03 May, 2012

The Karnataka Government has roped in the Centre for Environmental Planning and Technology (CEPT) University as consultant for designing the BRTS project.

Karnataka is planning a Bus Rapid Transport System (BRTS) between Hubli and Dharwad to ease the traffic congestion in the city. The proposed BRTS project entailing Rs 450 crore will be second-largest urban spread in Karnataka after Bangalore. The stretch covers a distance of 22.2 km. The project is likely to be funded by the state government, Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation and loan from World Bank.

BRTS still has'not got nod from Union govt or world bank.Anyway the 4 lane road will ease traffic to a great extent. Also flyovers are not part of BRTS.HDMC must look at funding options, bangalore centric Govt needs to take care of its tier two cities.

May 27, 2012, 05.00AM IST

‘Mission 4,000' to increase green cover in twin cities

Rashtrotthana Sankalp Trust in association with environmentalists and the general public will be planting 4,000 saplings along the proposed four-lane road between Hubli and Dharwad.

President of the trust Santhosh Nargund told presspersons here on Sunday that as part of the road expansion works, the authorities had felled huge trees without considering the damage that had caused to the environment. The trust had launched the initiative to enhance the green cover in the twin cities.

Mr. Santhosh said that the trust would be launching the initiative under the name ‘Mission 4,000'. “Various civil society organisations, environmentalists have already pledged their support to this cause.

The trust is also creating awareness on this grave environmental issue among the citizens through sessions in schools, colleges and on internet”, he said.

The trust would celebrate World Environment Day on June 5 and would launch ‘Greener Hubli-Dharwad Campaign'.

Mr. Nargund said that while the Ministry of Environment and Forestry had permitted felling of 1,200 trees to make way for the proposed four-lane road, the Divisional Forest Officer had given sanction for chopping down 1,700 trees. “Going a step further, the contractor entrusted with the work has chopped down 2,633 trees”, he said.

Mr. Santhosh said that the trust wanted to make up for the loss of such a large number of trees.

KRDCL should implement 4 lane with paved shoulders like NHAI.
The quality of work is good, but...

Mysore Highway is example with just 2 lanes each side with muddy shoulders.
This leads to accidents while overtaking & also 2 wheelers/ large slow moving vehicles block traffic flow/speed.

It is really dangerous the way Taxis overtake on Mysore road, besides absence of bypass for major towns.
