Some of the objections to an expanding hotel sector strike me as perverse. I'm a left winger but accept that in these matters we should let the free market decide. If there is a market for more hotels then so be it, and we shouldn't allow some of the existing hotels to dictate a little protectionist agenda to safeguard their position in the market. The notion that Liverpool should remain a little backwater with small cliques running things is an example of backward thinking. Liverpool should not be held back, if an entrepreneurial spirit exists then unleash it for the good of everyone.

Listened to jack stopforth (chamber of commerce) saying that on match nights, especially European ties, you still can't get a hotel room! Surely mire hotels of any type should be welcomed?

It really is just a measly attempt at protecting market share by the current hotels in the city, but as long as there are companies willing to invest in the city and take advantage of its potential - we've got nothing to worry about.
