Ze Carlos_Ze November 23rd, 2011, 11:45 PM Iran unveils missile silos in war games
Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) has unveiled underground ballistic missile silos on the first day of the Great Prophet 6 military maneuver.
“The silos are a part of the swift reaction unit of the missile brigade; missiles are stored vertically, ready to be launched against pre-determined targets,” Fars News Agency quoted the IRGC spokesman in charge of the drills, General Asghar Qelich-Khani, as saying on Monday.
Qelich-Khani said the country has been using domestically-built missile silos for fifteen years and added that the newer generation silos are operational from a launch control center located far from the launch pads.
The main advantage of missile silos is the reduced launch time as the weapons need not be moved or aligned prior to launch.
On Sunday, Commander of the Aerospace Division of the IRGC Brigadier General Amir Ali Hajizadeh short-, medium- and long-range missiles, namely Khalij Fars (Persian Gulf), Sejjil (Baked Clay), Fateh (Conqueror), Qiam (Rising), Shahab-1 and Shahab-2 missiles would be fired during the war games.
Hajizadeh stressed that Great Prophet 6 maneuver has completely defensive objectives and will be staged with the message of "peace and friendship."
IRGC's naval, air and ground forces staged the Great Prophet 5 military drill in the Persian Gulf in April 2010.

IRGC [I]Ghadir radar system operational
A top Iranian commander says the Ghadir radar system with a range of 1,100 kilometers in radius and a height of 300 kilometers has become operational in the country for the first time.
“The Ghadir radar has been designed and manufactured to discover air targets, radar-evading planes, cruise missiles, ballistic missiles and satellites at low orbits,” Commander of the Aerospace Division of Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Amir Ali Hajizadeh said on Wednesday, Fars news agency reported.
After the IRGC unveiled underground ballistic missile silos on the first day of the Great Prophet 6 military maneuvers on Monday, the Ghadir radar system also become operational, the commander went on to say.
The Islamic Republic began the Great Prophet 6 drills on Monday.
On the first day of the exercises, Iran unveiled underground missile silos and fired Fateh (Conqueror)-110 missiles.
On Tuesday, Iran successfully launched 14 surface-to-surface missiles, including Zelzal (Temblor), Shahab-1, Shahab-2 and Shahab-3.
Five Shahab missiles, including four medium-range and one long-range, as well as 9 Zelzal missiles were launched.

Ze Carlos_Ze November 23rd, 2011, 11:54 PM Iran to build new frigates, submarines
Iran's Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi says the country has taken major strides towards constructing new flying boats, including frigates, while planning to manufacture new arms.
Iran has also launched the construction of various navigation and control systems and will begin production of the remaining parts in a near future, IRNA quoted Vahidi as saying on Friday.
He lauded the first international engagement of the Iranian submarine Yunes and said, “The move was a very significant step in displaying Iran's naval power.”
The minister stated that the move reflected a proof that Iran is making great progress towards the achievement of its objectives in the naval field.
Early in July, Iran's Yunes submarine, sailing alongside warships of the 14th fleet of the Iranian Navy, returned home following a nearly two-month-long mission in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.
The deployment of the Iranian military submarine in the Red Sea represented the first such mission by the country's naval forces in far-off waters.
In February, two Iranian Navy ships, Khark and Alvand, passed through the Suez Canal, a strategic international shipping route in Egypt, for the first time since the victory of the Islamic Revolution in Iran in 1979.
In recent years, Iran has made great achievements in the defense sector and attained self-sufficiency in essential military equipment and systems.
Iran has repeatedly assured other nations, especially its neighbors, that its military might poses no threat to other countries, insisting that its defense doctrine is based on deterrence.

Minister Lauds Armed Forces' High Scientific Capabilities
TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Interior Minister Mostafa Mohammad Najjar on Sunday praised the high capabilities of the Iranian Armed Forces in supplying their needs indigenously
The Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran are equipped with up-to-date science and knowledge and enjoy high capabilities in these fields," Najjar said in Iran's central city of Arak, adding that the issue has scared the enemies of Iran.
The minister praised the indigenous capabilities of the Iranian Armed Forces and stated, "Today we are producing everything in the armed forces by ourselves. Whatever we need on land and in the air, from a single bullet to missiles, aircraft and warships, they are being designed and produced based on the experiences and expertise of local elites and thinkers."
He also voiced Iran's preparedness to transfer its capabilities and equipments to the other world countries.
Tehran launched an arms development program during the 1980-88 Iraqi imposed war on Iran to compensate for a US weapons embargo. Since 1992, Iran has produced its own tanks, armored personnel carriers, missiles and fighter planes.
Yet, Iranian officials have always stressed that the country's military and arms programs serve defensive purposes and should not be perceived as a threat to any other country.
The Iranian Armed Forces recently test-fired different types of newly-developed missiles and torpedoes and tested a large number of its home-made weapons, tools and equipments, including submarines, military ships, artillery, choppers, aircraft, UAVs and air defense and electronic systems, in a series of massive military drills.
Defense analysts and military observers say that Iran's wargames and its advancements in weapons production have proved as a deterrent factor, specially at a time of heightened threats by the US.
Ze Carlos_Ze November 23rd, 2011, 11:55 PM Iran plans to be on the leading edge of defense technology (http://tehrantimes.com/index.php/politics/1658-iran-plans-to-be-on-the-leading-edge-of-defense-technology-)
TEHRAN, Aug. 16 (MNA) – Iranian defense minister has said Iran plans to be among the five top countries, which possess the most advanced defensive technologies.
Ahmad Vahidi said that Iran has made great progress in the area of defense over the past few years, thanks to participation of the private sector.
And the Defense Ministry in cooperation with the private sector will continue to make further progress in the future, he added.
“Today, participating in promoting the defensive capability to counter threats and dispel dangers, is a national and religious duty,” he stated.
New projects to begin on Defense Industry Day
New defensive projects will start on the Defense Industry Day (Aug. 22), Brigadier General Mahmoud Sajedifar of the Defense Ministry said on Tuesday.
Sajedifar also said Iran could only manufacture small arms and weapons before the Islamic Revolution and only the U.S. provided maintenance services for Iran’s military equipment.
However, after the Islamic Revolution Iran has gained self-sufficiency in both manufacturing and maintaining military machines.
Ze Carlos_Ze November 23rd, 2011, 11:56 PM Iran pres. unveils key defense products
Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has inaugurated three major defense projects in the fields of cruise missiles production and naval equipment manufacturing.

Ze Carlos_Ze November 24th, 2011, 12:25 AM Iran to Use Modern Electronic Systems to Deceive, Redirect Guided Missiles
TEHRAN (FNA)- A senior Iranian air defense commander announced on Saturday that the country plans to equip its air defense units with a state-of-the-art electronic warfare technology to be used for detouring enemies' guided missiles.
Speaking to FNA, Lieutenant Commander of Khatam ol-Anbia Air Defense Base for Electronic Warfare Colonel Moharram Qolizadeh pointed to the key role of electronic jamming systems in winning electronic warfare, and said Iran is seeking to go one more step to deceive and detour the incoming guided missiles.
"When a guided missile is launched by the enemy, it is not possible to destroy it through jamming systems, but it is only possible to redirect it in a way that the missile loses its precision targeting capability," Qolizadeh added.
"We have a project at hand that is in fact a stage ahead of jamming to 'deceive' the incoming missiles," the commander announced, and stated, "At this stage, we disrupt transmission of data to the data processing unit of incoming missiles and reprogram it with our own information and redirect the missile towards our desirable point."
He further said that the highly advanced technology will be used in the country's air defense systems in the near future.
Last August, Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmadi Vahidi said that Tehran is capable of producing different kinds of electronic warfare systems to fight back enemies' possible electronic war against Iran.
"The communication tools and equipment produced by the Iranian experts have helped us establish fully desirable land, air, sea and defensive communications at tactical and non-tactical levels for the Armed Forces," he said at the time.
Vahidi described security, resistance, smartness, modernity, low volume and weight as well as high efficiency as the special features of Iran's electronic products.

Commander: Iran Developing Upgraded Version of Russian S-300
TEHRAN (FNA)- A senior Iranian military commander announced here on Tuesday that Iran is developing its own version of the sophisticated S-300 air defense system, adding that Iranian experts have removed the flaws and defects of the Russian version.
Speaking to FNA, Commander of Khatam ol-Anbia Air Defense Base Brigadier General Farzad Esmayeeli said that the country's experts have started designing and building an Iranian version of the S-300 anti-aircraft missile system after Russia refrained from delivering it to Iran.
He noted that the development of system, dubbed as Bavar 373, started at an order issued by the commander in-chief, Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei.
Asked about the features and specifications of the Iranian system, Esmayeeli stated, "The flaws and defects of the (Russian) S-300 system have been removed in the indigenous version of the system and its conceptual designing has been finished."
Esmayeeli noted that right now Iranian experts in Khatam ol-Anbia base and the Ministry of Defense are in conducting the precise designing of the system.
He stated that the Iranian defense ministry system uses two to three types of missiles in different layers to confront aerial targets.
Under a contract signed in 2007, Russia was required to provide Iran with at least five S-300 air-defense systems.
However, Moscow's continuous delays in delivering the defense system drew criticism from the Islamic Republic on several occasions.
Russia refused to deliver the system to Iran under the pretext that the system is covered by the fourth round of UN Security Council resolutions against Iran.
After the resolution was passed, Moscow said that it was not obliged to drop the S-300 deal with Iran, since it was not referenced in the UNSC resolution.
But after Washington's continued pressures, Moscow claimed that upon further study of the sanctions resolution, it was freezing the delivery.
Iran criticized Russia, saying that since Resolution 1929 does not specifically ban the delivery of defensive missiles, Moscow has no excuse for refusing to commit to the deal.
Russian President Dmitry Medvedev issued a decree in September 2010 prohibiting the sale of S-300 missile systems to Iran, citing restrictions under sanctions the UN Security Council imposed on Tehran in June over its nuclear activities.
Iran dismissed Russia's justification that the ban on the delivery of the S-300 missile system to Iran was in line with the (US-engineered) UN Security Council Resolution 1929, and stated that this is an air defense system which is not included in Resolution 1929.
On June 9, 2010, the UN Security Council (UNSC) imposed a US-engineered sanctions resolution against Iran over allegations that Tehran's nuclear program is military in nature.

Iran's Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi says the country will unveil new products in the air defense sector in the near future.
Iran has produced various types of hardware for defense purposes which will be made public soon, Vahidi told IRNA on Thursday.
The minister emphasized that Iran is fully vigilant against threats and cautioned that the Islamic Republic will strongly punish the enemy, should it make the “slightest mistake”.
He warned Western countries against posing threats against Iran, and reiterated that the Islamic Republic remains fully prepared to counter the threats.
The Israeli and US authorities have in recent weeks stepped up their aggressive war rhetoric against Iran.
On November 6, Israeli President Shimon Peres threatened that an attack against the Islamic Republic was becoming “more and more likely.”
Iranian officials have promised a crushing response to any military strike against the country, warning that any such measure could result in a war that would spread beyond the Middle East.
Iranian military officials have said that the US and Israeli threats against Tehran are rooted in the duo's fear of Iran's advancements in different spheres.

Ze Carlos_Ze November 29th, 2011, 09:53 PM IRGC Armed with Large Numbers of Advanced Air Defense Canons
TEHRAN (FNA)- The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Aerospace Force on Tuesday received a large number of air defense canons manufactured by the Iranian Defense Industries.
The 100mm air defense guns named "Sa'eer" were delivered to the IRGC Aerospace Force during a ceremony attended by the commander of the force, Brigadier General Amir Ali Hajizadeh, and Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the ceremony, Vahidi said the automatic system is assisted by a radar-optic interception system and could fire at targets without crew intervention.
The medium range gun operates at an improved precision compared to its counterparts.
The gun is capable of firing 12 to 15 shells per minute.
Vahidi had earlier informed the media that his ministry planned to supply new air defense systems to the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC).
Also, the Iranian Defense Ministry on Wednesday supplied a large number of highly advanced coast-to-sea cruise missiles to the Army's naval forces.
The missiles were delivered to the Navy in a ceremony attended by Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi and Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari.
The move came on the verge of the National Navy Day on November 28.

Pentagon has admitted that the drone is in Iranian hands. What's interesting is that they were thinking about going into Iran and recovering the drone until they learned that Iran is in possession of the thing. If Iran knew where the drone was in some random remote mountain, then we were obviously tracking it. This gives the hacking claim real credibility.
http://worldnews.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2011/12/05/9226787-drone-that-crashed-in-iran-risks-secret-us-technology
Anyhow, great achievement. We should all be proud. We are now in possession of a drone that has probably costed hundreds of millions of dollars in R&D. If we have indeed hacked it, then we're the first in history to achieve this. If it was shot down, then we're the second in history.

Now that would be hell of a priceless treasure if the news is true.China and Russia will be knocking Iranian doors on info about this treasure trove.Billions of $$$ spent on development only to drop on Iran's lap.Not that bad yeah...
Just imagine a reverse engineered US drone used to spy on US bases in the region.
And imagine if the UAV turns out to be a stealth UAV(which I believe most of them are) then its a hell of an achievement for Iran to actually detect it and bring it down which hints at the actual technological capability of Iranian military.

As of now S300 is of no use for Iran.Israel and US know S300 inside out possibly with the help from the East European countries and they do have a very strong counter productive measures against S300.
Iran already has developed Bavar-373 which is believed to be as good as S300 but with a bit of surprises which will keep US and Israel guessing about its capabilities.
What Iran could possibly do is struck a deal with the China given the recent deployment of US troops in Australia which has given US more access to the South China sea and made the red dragon more angry and nervous.
Right now China is more desperate to get hands on anything that undermines US military capability.

Russia backed and did not sell S300 unit itself but I think they sold the technology behind it. You can see clearly that Bavar-373 looks exactly like the as S300 and even government tells that Bavar going to be exactly good as Russian ditto, that’s makes you think.
China has little experience to copy and build the enemy military machines. But Russia and the United States since the Cold War spying at each other and stole information with help of their KGB and the CIA. Have it a lot.
Maybe but you must remember that China are in big need of nature recourses too. They have nukes and are not so scared or worry. Therefore in case of invasion of Iran I think China could make a deal with US that after invasion of your country they take Iran’s nature recourses and split it 50 to 50. Believe me it could happen if it wasn’t for Russia. Because Russia and Iran sharing Caspian Sea full of rich recourses and not least Russia sees Iran as a geopolitical partner. In order to strengthen my words I will remind you that Russia delivered and highly advanced complex radio executive and technical intelligence military unit named 1Л222 Автобаза witch can detect, hack, control and land down the flying objects, uav and planes. Witch Iranian army used it when they took down American drone.
Look at 1Л222 Автобаза(Avtobaza): http://militaryrussia.ru/blog/topic-598.html.

I just fail to understand this.
Its like you goto a shop to buy a Vacuum cleaner and pay the whole money for it and then instead of giving you the Vacuum cleaner the shopkeeper says that he will be selling you the "technology" behind it and not the Vacuum cleaner. Will you accept it ??
As far as I am concerned I surely ain't that dumb to accept the offer.
The technology behined Bavar-373 is surely S300 based but it was not obtained from Russia. It was obtained from Ukraine and Belarus who were desperate need of cash in late 1990 and early 2000.
China has little experience to copy and build the enemy military machines. But Russia and the United States since the Cold War spying at each other and stole information with help of their KGB and the CIA. Have it a lot.You are totally wrong in this. With your claim I think this is a horrible stereotype for the chinese defence industry which was true decades ago.
A country who can indigenously build an aircraft carrier, can send a man in space, can successfully destroy an incoming missile beyond the Earth's atmosphere only after United States surely does not sound like inexperienced to me.
I totally agree that right now China is much weaker to United States in terms of military power but it has surpassed Russia for sure.Russia is still finding it difficult to maintain the old Soviet arsenal.
Given the rate at which China is building its military and air power I am totally confident that by 2020 China and US will be neck to neck in terms of military power.
Maybe but you must remember that China are in big need of nature resources too. They have nukes and are not so scared or worry. Therefore in case of invasion of Iran I think China could make a deal with US that after invasion of your country they take Iran’s nature resources and split it 50 to 50.
China will never do that.If it wanted that way then we would had seen that in Iraq.Unlike US China does not have this habit of interfering in other countries affairs and defining world order.
And also no matter how loud the US regime plays the drums of freedom and democracy it is a well know fact that US is ruled by neocons and lobbyist and not by the elected government.
If nukes would had been of so much help then we wouldn't be seeing US troops rotting in Iraq and Afghanistan even after 10 years of invasion.
Believe me it could happen if it wasn’t for Russia. Because Russia and Iran sharing Caspian Sea full of rich recourses and not least Russia sees Iran as a geopolitical partner. What are the sources for your claim ?
The Russians are too weak as an ally with Iran. They're too fickle in many respects specially when it comes to dealing with the West. They're happy to cut deals with the west and chicken out when they can't stand the heat.
Ze Carlos_Ze December 27th, 2011, 01:16 PM Iran Manufactures High-Tech Drone
Students of an Iranian university were successfully able to manufacture and test a high-tech drone with electric jet engine.
The drone is an ultra-light working with two electric jet engines and is capable of flying with one engine. It is also capable of flying at a maximum speed of 250km and a minimum 50km per hour.
It took the students of Islamic Azad University in the city of Heris, East Azerbaijan province four months to design and manufacture the drone. It has been designed for 35 minutes reconnaissance mission at night.
Moreover, the air-craft can fly a distance of 10km and operates at an altitude of 9,000 feet. It can also transmit online scanning of the area to database on the ground.

So, then there is no reason that yanks say Iran is a danger.
What is in danger for yanks is oil and gas!!!
Arvor January 5th, 2012, 12:28 PM I originally intended to write something else in my previous post but i did not want to offend anyone which is why i put it in somewhat indirect terms of military budget expenditure .
But the point is that the US represents about 50% of the worlds defence spending the EU around 25% which means that US/Nato collectively represents about 3/4 of the worlds defence spending, of the remaining 1/4 another large chunk are represented by US and EU allies like Japan, S.Korea, Singapore, Australia the gulf states, Saudi Arabia etc, this means that the US and it's "friends" represents close to 90% of the worlds military spending and this does not only reflect budgets or military power but also geopolitics .
The best way for Iran to defend itself is simply to not give the US a pretext for war .
DJaCoNdA January 5th, 2012, 11:39 PM The best way for Iran to defend itself is simply to not give the US a pretext for war .
Or to get and create their own nuclear weapon, then the jackals and their leader will stop bullying and threat Iran. Don't forget that China stands completely behind Iran if something happens. I wish i could say the same thing about Russia. :ohno: But i hope that i am wrong.
Arvor January 6th, 2012, 01:03 AM China can't do anything about the US in the event of war neither can Russia their support will only go as far as politics at the UN level .
In comparing Russia and China's ability to intervene i think Russia is more capable of doing so than China, China is much more heavily dependent on the US and EU for it's economy and thus the communist parties own existence depends on it, Russia too is dependent on the EU but not alot on the US for it's economy or for it's political structure to survive .
In military terms the quality of the Chinese forces are still perhaps below those of the Russians, with regards capacity to deploy forces well China currently does not have the necessary air and sealift equipment and is too boxed in strategically to be able to mount any sort of military actions outside it's immediate borders, thus sending meaningful forces all the way to Iran is impossible for China meanwhile Russia can probably more easily just send tanks to Iran's northern region by crossing Azerbaidjan or the Caspian sea .
The most likely type of intervention would be if the US and it's allied forces do invade Iran and get half way to Teheran that Russia decides to intervene and send forces to Teheran basically a repeat of ww2's occupation of the southern regions by the British and the northern zone by the Russians, which would lead to some kind of stalemate but the question is wheter Russia would see doing something like this as worth the geopolitical and financial cost and effort to itself .
Truth is as Kissinger once said more or less that great powers do not commit suicide for it's client states or small allies, and indeed it is unlikely China or Russia would intervene militarily just as the USA was unable or unwilling to intervene beyond political means to save their pet Georgian regime from the Russians in 2007 .
Finally regarding acquiring nukes it would probably be the worst thing Iran can do because it would be the clearest pretext for a pre emptive invasion which means it would never get the chance to actually make them and in any case simply having nukes would not be much of a threat to the US or Nato, Pakistan has nukes yet it is bombed at will and without any deterrent effect from it's nukes on the US ... .
PersianTakavar January 6th, 2012, 03:15 AM let me tell you something there is no evidence of iran producing nuke, so your whole argument fails, i rest my case.

Ze Carlos_Ze January 28th, 2012, 01:45 PM Iran to Unveil New Military Achievements in Days
TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi announced that the country plans to unveil several achievements in the field of defense in the next few days.
Vahidi said new achievements in defense, aerospace and missile fields will be unveiled during the Ten-Day Dawn ceremonies from February 1 to 11, celebrating the victory of the Islamic Revolution back in 1979.
"Some of these key achievements have been mass produced and will be delivered to the Armed Forces as soon as they are unveiled to the public," Vahidi said.
The minister further noted that these achievements will once again prove the ineffectiveness of the sanctions imposed on Tehran by the West.
In December 2011, Vahidi unveiled 20 important projects in energy, nanotechnology, microelectronic, optic, laser, missile and naval fields.
Earlier this month, Vahidi announced that the country plans to unveil a home-made sea patrol aircraft within the next few weeks.
Vahidi said that the new aircraft is equipped with optical and radar subsystems and is capable of operating for long distances and can be used in maritime reconnaissance patrolling.

Islamic Republic of Iran has unveiled smart laser-guided ammunition dubbed "Basir" manufactured by the country's military experts.
Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi attended the unveiling ceremony in the capital Tehran on Monday.
The general said that it is the first time that such ammunition has been designed and manufactured by Iranian experts in the Defense Industry Organization.
He added that Basir is designed to destroy tanks, military vehicles, bridges, and other moving or non-moving targets with high precision. It is also capable of identifying and locating targets.
General Vahidi noted that the projectile, which has a range of 20 km, is very useful in mountainous areas.
Iran is among top five countries capable of producing smart weapons using indigenous technology, he added.
The Islamic Republic has made great achievements in the defense sector and gained self-sufficiency in essential military hardware and defense systems in recent years.
Tehran has repeatedly assured other nations, especially regional neighbors, that its military might poses no threat to other countries, insisting that its defense doctrine is merely based on deterrence.

Iran unveils another part of its military potential as the US and Israel continue their threats against Iran's nuclear facilities. The latest item unveiled by Iran's defense minister is a smart ammunition system titled “BASIR”, its main objective is to enhance Iran's defense capability during military threats.
Iran's defense minister Ahmad Vahidi told reporters that BASIR put Iran among the five countries in the world with laser targeting technology. He said except US and Russia the three other countries have obtained similar systems through technology transfer. Vahidi insisted that the current project was the work of young Iranian experts in the country's defense industries and research institutions.
And this is how the system works according to Iran's defense industries.
An artillery shell is fired. It then falls into an electronic cone whose center is aimed at the target marked by a separate electronic device in the hands of an operator far away from the target.
Ze Carlos_Ze January 31st, 2012, 01:38 PM Iran Starts Mass Production of Black Box
TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran on Tuesday officially inaugurated the production line of black box for different types of airplanes and choppers.
The line was inaugurated in an official ceremony here in Tehran attended by Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi and Commander of Khatam ol-Anbia Air Defense Base Brigadier General Farzad Esmayeeli.
During the ceremony, another line was also inaugurated for overhauling and optimizing low-altitude smart air defense system.
Addressing the ceremony, Vahidi said that optimizing the system will increase Iran's operation power in low-altitude and in defending sensitive and strategic areas against warplanes, choppers, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) as well as air-to-ground missiles.
On Monday, the Iranian Defense Ministry unveiled the country's first home-made laser-guided smart munitions, called Bassir.
During the ceremony on Monday, Vahidi told reporters that the new munitions are suitable to target static and mobile targets with high precision strike.
Vahidi had earlier said that Iran plans to display several home-made achievements in different military and technological fields in the near future.
New home-made satellite carrier rockets, smart ammunition, aeronautic products, as well as new electronic and telecommunication devices will be unveiled, Vahidi told reporters after a cabinet meeting here in Tehran on Sunday.

Iran has produced new ballistic missiles. The short range ballistic missiles have been designed for the Naval Forces of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps.
Built by Iran's Defense Ministry, the Zafar cruise missiles can evade high tech radars and hit (http://www.presstv.ir/detail/224838.html#) any target in the sea. Speaking to Press TV, the defense officials say Iran's determination to design and produce ballistic missiles has no end in sight.
The Iranian commanders also said the country's missile defense system has equally progressed after test-firing advanced, mobile two-stage, solid-fuel ballistic missiles. The missiles' range brings within reach any target in the Persian Gulf and the sea of Oman.
Iran launched a new telecommunication satellite into orbit on Feb the third. According to US and Russian technical experts, Iran's recent space launch and missile test shows its rapid growth in missile technology, in which its engineers have mastered staging - a challenging technology necessary for developing longer-range missiles.
GI_Joint February 5th, 2012, 05:50 AM There's a good article in the New York times where a reporter interviewed many high up politicians and military folks in Israel on the whole Iran nuke situation and it seems the US and Europe want to continue with the sanctions for as long as possible, where as Israel believes 2012 is the last year it can wait and is itching to attack.
Some high up people in Israel see an attack on Iran as a mistake because an attack could only potentially delay the Nuclear program for just a few months, and with Hezbollah on its doorstep and Tel Aviv vulnerable to being bombed by Iran, an attack on Iran would be deadly. Some fellow from Mossad believed the better way of doing it was to try and convince the Iranian people and fund groups to over throw the regime themselves or something but Netenhanu or however you spell his name and is defense pal believe time is running out and that an attack would delay the nuclear program for 5 years so they are seriously convinced a strike on Iran is necessary whether the US likes it or not because Iran said it wanted to wipe Israel off the map.
ANYWAY
Should the US and Iran decide to battle it out, you won't see a US ground campaign against Iran, why? it would just be far too costly for the Americans, casualties would be high and public opinion would be low, they've just come out of a long campaign in Iraq and are still in Afghanistan and the financial burden would just be too much. Iran would be extremely tough for the US to crack in a ground campaign, there's a chance they could lose which would be unthinkable for them.
The US will use their superior Navy and Air Force and other technological know how to bomb Iran into submission, Iran I suspect will fire away the many lethal missiles at their disposal and try and drag the US into a costly ground war.
And I'll be paying an arm and a leg to fill my damn car!

Rick Santorum an american thinks gay people are animals, do people say "america" said gay people are animals ?! no they said Rick Santorum said that, one person, so "Iran" didn't say they want to wipe israel of the map, neo-can's say ahmadinejad did which he didn't, so yeah... on your other points you have some good analysis.
GI_Joint February 5th, 2012, 09:48 AM Sorry about that Persiantakavar I should have worded it better.
What I was saying was that a few of the higher ups in Israel will use that "wipe us off the map" regardless of the controversy surrounding what ahmadinejad really said or not as a pretext to attack Iranian nuclear program facilities before it is "too late" aka buried deep somewhere where their bombs won't penetrate. That's how they see it now: Iran with nukes = Israel destroyed.

I know exactly what you talkin about, if i was in charge i would end the nuclear program as fast as i can. but uhh... i think the reason that the people in charge here might want a nuke is not attack israel or the united states but to guarantee their own safety, america is not going to attack a country with nukes, look at north korea for example since they built nukes no one in america may i say even "dares" to talk about NK and a regim change there, but anyway the IAEA says that iran is not building a nuke even the U.S. secretary of defense said they are not building a nuke, the reason that there is so much talk about iran nuclear program right now is that the election year is near and iran is the boogyman and with a boogyman and enough fear mongering you can get lots of votes in U.S.

Who knows what that will happen next. All we can do is to wait and see.. it's sad that tensions between Iran and Israel are more tense than never before, both nations will suffer if a war or something would happen. ._.

If NK launched a nuke on say Seoul in SK then I guarantee you NK would be attacked not only by the US but by a coalition of countries. The consequences of nuking another country these days would be huge. NK know that an invasion of SK would result in retaliation. I also doubt under Obama the US would attack Iran unless absolutely provoked, he seems keen on sanctions and local issues like the US economy which has finally picked up again than waging another war.

Tehran, Feb 8, IRNA – Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari said on Thursday that the two new submarines have been added to the submarine fleet of the Islamic Republic of Iran's Navy.
Rear Admiral Sayyari noted that Ghadir-class submarines have been totally designed and manufactured by Iranian experts.
He pointed out that the submarines joined (http://irna.ir/News/Politic/Two-new-Submarines-join-navy-fleet/30809838#) the Iranian Navy's fleet concurrent with the 10-day-dawn marking the 33rd victory of the 1979 Islamic revolution in Iran.
'Two other submarines of the same type (Ghadir-class) joined the navy fleet concurrent with Velayat-90 navy drills in the east of the Strait of Hormuz, Sea of Oman, Gulf of Eden, and north Indian Ocean (http://irna.ir/News/Politic/Two-new-Submarines-join-navy-fleet/30809838#),' Rear Admiral Sayyari added.
All parts of the submarine, including fuselage, radar equipment, and advanced defense equipment have been designed and manufactured by the experts at the Islamic Republic of Iran's Defense Ministry.

TEHRAN (FNA)- The Iranian Navy's 18th fleet of warships passed through the Suez Canal and entered the Mediterranean Sea, an Iranian navy commander confirmed on Saturday.
The Iranian Navy dispatched its 18th flotilla of warships to the Gulf of Aden on January 21 to protect the country's cargo ships and oil tankers against the Somali pirates. The Iranian warships docked at the Saudi port city of Jeddah a few days later.
The Navy's 18th flotilla is comprised of Khark warship and Shahid Naqdi destroyer.
Iranian Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari said on Saturday that the warships have made their second ever journey through the Suez Canal following Iran's 1979 Islamic Revolution in line with the orders of the Supreme Leader for having a stronger presence in the high seas.
He said that the fleet will convey the message of peace and friendship to the region and will demonstrate the Islamic Republic's might.
The two Iranian vessels, Khark and Alvand, had crossed the Suez Canal, a strategic international shipping route in Egypt, in February 2011.
Khark has 250 crewmembers and can carry three helicopters.

Iran plans to design, manufacture new military aircraft
Iran's Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi says the Islamic Republic has set up several projects intended to design and build new advanced stealth and fighter planes.
Speaking at the 11th Iranian Aerospace Society Conference in the capital Tehran on Monday, General Vahidi said that Iran enjoys considerable expertise to manufacture various military, fighter and passenger aircraft.
He noted that Iran has made great strides in the aviation industry through the design and mass production of its first home-made Saeqeh (Thunderbolt) fighter jet, which has joined Iran's air force fleet.
Brigadier General Vahidi highlighted that while a large number of world countries assemble airplanes under the license of a certain country, Islamic Republic of Iran produces domestically developed aircraft.

Iran has the know-how to build engines used in unmanned aerial vehicles (http://www.asianage.com/international/iran-has-drone-engine-know-how-376#) (UAV), an official said.
"We are building turbofan engines for a variety of UAVs," Iranian Armed Forces deputy Brigadier General Abdolkarim Banitarafi said on Friday.
The construction of the engines is a significant step in the direction of building indigenous drones, the state-run Press TV quoted Banitarafi as saying.

BosnaHaris March 4th, 2012, 04:10 PM Seems Iran is making forward steps in the development of it's millitary capabilities, specifically air defenses. I want a nuclear weapon's free world, But I understand why some in Iran would want a nuclear weapon, as a deterrent. But Iran could even further it's millitary strength, if they stopped funding outside groups like Hezbollah and stopped spending money to pay the Basji to oppress the people. Imagine, all that money going instead to the Iranian millitary.
Ze Carlos_Ze March 11th, 2012, 12:31 AM Iran to Increase Exports of Arms, Military Equipments
TEHRAN (FNA)- The Iranian Defense Ministry plans to increase exports of arms and military equipment to friendly and neighboring countries in the next Iranian year (starts (http://english.farsnews.com/newstext.php?nn=9012151809#) on March 20), a senior Iranian Defense Ministry official announced on Saturday.
Speaking to FNA, Iranian Deputy Defense Minister General Majid Bokayee stated that his ministry has initiated massive plans to promote arms exports.
"The issue of (arms) exports is one of the fundamental issues considered by the Iranian Ministry of Defense and Armed Forces Logistics, and great efforts have been made to increase military exports remarkably in the next year (March 2012-March 2013)," Bokayee underscored.
He pointed to the visit to Iran by Lebanese Defense Minister Fayez Ghosn and Iran's pledge to equip the Lebanese Army, and further added, "We will naturally have massive relations with the friendly and neighboring countries regarding arms exports."
During a meeting with Ghosn in Tehran in February, Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi underlined Tehran's determination to provide all-out support (http://english.farsnews.com/newstext.php?nn=9012151809#) for Lebanon against the foreign countries and terrorists' threats, and also stressed that the Lebanese Army should be reinvigorated to the same end.
"Strengthening the Lebanese Army is one of the strategic policies of the Islamic Republic of Iran and Lebanon should have a powerful Army to defend its interests in the region," Vahidi reiterated.
In July 2010, a senior Iranian military expert said that the country is exporting arms and military equipment (http://english.farsnews.com/newstext.php?nn=9012151809#) to 40 world states at present.

testdrive March 11th, 2012, 04:09 AM Boy, I sort of stumbled onto this thread..........I am not sure what the point of it is unless there are real techno-weapons geeks who are simply interested in engineering aspects or is this a pissing contest to see who has the biggest stick? After reading the some of the posts it is truly sad that this kind of rhetoric never seems to change from one generation to the next. That no one seems to learn anything from past experiences. Finger pointing, national security claims, cultural ignorance, lack of willingness to embrace differences, institutionalized religion using its beliefs as a cover to justify just about anything......discouraging. The short speech by one of the producers of an Iranian movie which won an Academy Award this year summed it up pretty well when he said it is just a handful of politicians with their own narrow vision of the world and not the people who make up the societies that lead us into these conflicts. I can only only hope that as technology continues to "shrink" the world we can be less fearful and suspicious. Somehow though maybe we just have not evolved enough as species yet to resist a primal behavior that seems to demand a violent response to generate some sort of short lived sense of satisfaction......that revenge somehow solves somethings.............like watching a gorilla pound its chest in a victory stance. Sorry for the soap box ..........:soapbox:
Ze Carlos_Ze March 28th, 2012, 08:46 AM Iran self-sufficient in manufacturing naval equipment: Navy Cmdr.
Iran's Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari says the Islamic Republic has reached self-sufficiency in manufacturing naval equipment.
"We are now entirely capable of manufacturing naval equipment inside the country," utilizing the skills and capabilities of Iranian experts, IRNA quoted Sayyari as saying on Tuesday.
He noted that Iran is no longer in need of assistance from other states in the production of any naval apparatus due to the potentials of its young scientists and experts.
Sayyari also announced last month that the Islamic Republic has acquired the know-how to manufacture aircraft carriers.
The Navy commander argued that Iran's defense doctrine differs from that of the colonialists and is contrary to the expansionist policies of the hegemonic powers, adding the Islamic Republic's defense strategies are aimed at serving its national interests.
Iran has started a self-sufficiency campaign in the defense industry and has launched numerous military projects since the victory of the Islamic Revolution over 30 years ago.
The Iranian Navy launched its first domestically-manufactured destroyer, Jamaran, in the waters of the Persian Gulf in February 2010.
The 1,420-ton destroyer is equipped with modern radars and other electronic warfare capabilities. The country also unveiled its new submarine, named Ghadir, in 2007.

Iran Unveils Modern Fire-Control System for Home-Made Zolfaqar Tank
TEHRAN (FNA)- Commander of the Iranian Army Ground Force Brigadier General Ahmad Reza Pourdastan on Wednesday underlined the army's high capability to produce different hi-tech military tools and weapons, including a modern fire-control system mounted on the home-made Zolfaqar Tanks.
"The (new) fire control system of Zolfaqar tank has been manufactured and unveiled and the laser telemetry devices have also been mounted onto the tanks. Zolfaqar can now vie with the world's most advanced tanks," Pourdastan told reporters on Wednesday.

^^ The castro communist dictatorship in Cuba has an internal embargo on its people that consists of the government monopolizing all of the big commerces in the country, including foreign ones, and getting large percents of its profits. What bothers most is that while these stores charge in U.S. dollars (hypocritically using the "imperialists'" form of exchange), Cubans are paid in Cuban pesos, which have 26 times less values. This means that Cubans must pay exorbitant prices for every-day items like soap or food. Consider that at most, professionals will get paid 30 dollars a month; that means lots of people will go hungry and/or will resort to the black market.
I pray you do not follow any man that supports the oppression of another.
Look at the example of Chavez, he talks about many "good" things, but completely misses the mark when it comes to not supporting a brutal and oppressive communist dictatorship that treats its 11 million people as nothing more than slaves.
I cannot say that some of the things that the West does today are not wrong, but I cannot ignore the plight of a people who hunger under another government, either.
Therefore, I urge you to always do some research on the opposing sides
The oppression of ANY person, people, or nation should automatically equate to the ousting of power of the person, people, or government in charge.
Saludos!

Military tech can help people in 2 ways, either by conquest or defence. While our neighbors, iraq, afghanistan, libya, sudan, etc have been attacked we due to our capabilities have not.
So i would argue our military tech has benefited us.
SoroushPersepolisi April 24th, 2012, 05:20 PM yea but instead of that, if the country had correct policies they wouldnt be in such situation to need military power
at the end, it doesnt build houses, fill people's stomachs or help develop society
the obsession with defence is a result of ill policies and wrong decisions
Amirex111 April 24th, 2012, 06:52 PM Correct policies didnt protect the europeans against hilters germany, or asian pacific against the emparor of japan, or counless others who stood there while power hunger nations attacked...
Iran would have to give in to americas superiority complex to have "correct policies".
SoroushPersepolisi April 24th, 2012, 09:57 PM the europeans didnt have much of a correct policy either, or the pacific nations, aside, the situation in the world has changed
iran doesnt have to give in, just tell them to stop talking so much crap ;) thought that wouldnt make a difference, what u say is correct in general but the issue is that military in iran seems to be a source of "pride" for some while unemployment and many many many other issues are much more important to be solved
BosnaHaris May 9th, 2012, 11:56 PM Iran is developing itself, despite the sanctions. Of course, the sanctions have caused alot of issues with it's political, economic and millitary developments. But this regime has got to go! It is corrupt and is hurting the true potential of the Iranian people.

Eurasian Union June 9th, 2012, 05:54 AM Yes.
But in the end the military technology does not benefit the people.
I think it does for at least three reasons:
1) The stronger and more technologically advanced Iran's military is, the less likely it is that Iran is going to get attacked.
2) It creates jobs for Iranians.
3) The billions of dollars that would be spent on acquiring foreign equipment if Iran didn't have an military industry, they remain in Iran.
Aerithia June 9th, 2012, 10:10 AM True, but at the moment there's other sectors in Iran which could use the money funneled into developing military technology better.
Iran is in a huge need of developing its infrastructure, especially in the Khuzestan province where lots were destroyed during the Iran-Iraq war. Much has been rebuilt, but in general many roads, buildings etc need mass-renovation.
Abbas1 June 9th, 2012, 10:55 PM it is true,
there is always a better place to spend money for the people's well being; but unfortunately you are forced to spend money on military development, otherwise you are forced to buy their weaponry and depend totally on them. this is the well earning source for the west. so iran is doing right in developping their own.

This is a tricky subject:
1- look at the neighborhood Switzerland, Austria and Denmark are in and then compare to Iran!
2- People used to pick on the shah for strengthening the military, saying we have poor people, etc... which was true, but that same strengthened military is what stopped Iraq from taking over.
3-These photos aren't of modern day basijis who beat poor innocent people in the streets. These are people who will defend Iran's borders from invaders, regardless of who runs the country. I wish they were actually a bit stronger so they could counter the Pasdaran influence.

http://news.asiaone.com/A1MEDIA/news/02Feb13/20130202.192312_iran.jpg
TEHRAN - Iran on Saturday unveiled a fighter jet it said was designed and built domestically, with President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad touting it as "one of the most advanced" aircraft in the world.
State television footage showed the grey, futuristic-looking aircraft, code-named Qaher (Conqueror) F-313, displayed in a hangar.
The warplane "is among the most advanced fighter jets in the world", Mr Ahmadinejad told defence ministry top brass at the unveiling, media reports said.Read more (http://news.asiaone.com/News/Latest%2BNews/World/Story/A1Story20130202-399656.html)

Male a big Military thread and put them all in there
abii February 2nd, 2013, 10:22 PM That jet is a mock up as stated by AN and the staff present at the ceremony. It's barely a 1:1 mock up btw. They also showed a jet flying which also turned out to be a smaller version of this jet (technically an RC plane but bigger).
There's a complete set of specs available for the final version but I don't think anyone would be interested here on this forum so I won't bother. Just wanted to tell you guys that it's indeed a mock up as stated by the staff themselves.
