I have already posted similar thread in the East European section:
http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=145879

New Kolizej
Ljubljana is going to get a new commercial complex that will include three towers of which one will have 25 storeys and will make it the new Ljubljana's tallest building. The construction of this complex is about to begin in 2005 and will cost ~150 MIO Euros.

The location of the new complex:

This are the photos that I made at the exhibition showing all proposed designs, including the winner (click on any of the photos to get a bigger version):

Another approved project for Ljubljana (called "Potniski center Ljubljana"), of which construction is planned to start the next year as well (a few blocks away from the newly approved tallest one):

This tallest greenish skyscraper might also temporarely claim the title of Ljubljana's tallest, if it gets built before the New Kolizej komplex.

Wow, thats a pretty good range in designs. What are the heights of the two approved towers? They would have to be around the 100m mark considering they both are around the 25 level height.

Nice scrapers for Ljubljana! :)

So the Potniški Center will go under construction next year? Finally! The area around the train station is horrible, looks like Chernobyl, almost. :tongue2: :tounge2:

The tallest greenish looking skyscraper is ~80 (so was I told). The other one will be ~100. I don't know the exact heights though.

Good news for Ljubljana. I'm a huge fan of Neutelings Riedijk. Here (http://www.elcroquis.es/elcroquis/numeros/num94/elcroquis94_0.htm) and here (http://www.theartserver.be/theartserver/nlbe/04_detail_Q_id_E_d4982704916b43.asp) some other projects.

Great drawings, Nightsky. :nocrook: And thanx for finally adding some buildings to the Ljubljana diagram. I think it's the poorest one on skyscraperpage by far. Really! Someone should do some drawings of other buildings too, although I'm not sure where to find the heights.

edolen1
November 12th, 2004, 05:31 PM
LOL! 400,000?? Yeah, right. Think 250,000 ;)

You don't actually expect 25% of Slovenia lives in Ljubljana, do you? :P

As for Maribor, it's just over 100,000, so KM, you were close :)

LoKeY
November 12th, 2004, 06:03 PM
The city of Ljubljana has about 230.000 - 250.000 inhabitants. The last thing we need is almost half of Slovenia living there. :banned: It's bad already, that other cities are left out as Ljubljana wants to become the centre of everything in Slovenia.
But other than that it's a beautiful and cool city.

edolen1
November 12th, 2004, 06:07 PM
Yeah, this country is very centralised, we desperately need that regional division. But we can't help not being so centralised, it's tough to have regions where only 100,000 people live.

Ljubljana city is ~260.000....Ljubljana urban area is ~490.000

These figures are more or less quite correct, will try to get the official data though.

edolen1
November 12th, 2004, 06:14 PM
Blaž, no offence, but I honestly doubt there are 500,000 people in the metro of Ljubljana. Unless you counted the whole of Gorenjska and Notranjska in that.

bziherl

These are the official stats (http://www.ljubljana.si/mol/statistika/letopis2003.pdf, http://www.stat.si/doc/statinf/2004/si-150.pdf):

There were 264.269 citizens in Ljubljana in 2003.
There were 495.101 citizens in the urban Ljubljana area (whatever urban Ljubljana area means) in 2003.

Daily migration to Ljubljana is ~120.000 people (the right number can be found on http://www.stat.si/ website, but can't remember where exactly I read that).

@Edolen1: Yeah, 264.269 would probably be the right number here, as I have absolutely no clue what urban Ljubljana area includes.

edolen1
November 12th, 2004, 11:04 PM
I think I know. http://www.sigov.si/zrs/skte/karta7.jpg the pink area numbered '1' is most probably it. But it's still way too small to actually comprise 500,000 people. The only major towns in those municipalities comprised in the urban area besides Ljubljana are Domžale, Kamnik, Grosuplje, Litija, Vrhnika and Logatec. I'm not sure if they make up 250,000 people..

The current tallest building is the WTCLJ at 71m.

www.geohive.com

and on 25th page of Slovene statistical almanac population of Ljubljana is 270 000 –well just under by few hundreds.

But geohive has all data cose they collect it from same sources. Greater Ljubljana is 323 000.

Maribor is just over 100 000, and greater Maribor is 143 000.

3rd largest town in Slovenia is Celje with 62 000 inhabitnats (greater area) city is less than 50 000.

Few other news ;)

Constructions of new Kolizej won't start for at least another year as our stupid Minister of Culture demanded that old Kolizej cannot be demolished although it looks like it will collapse any second now...
On the other thing, there seems like construction of PCL will start in 2006. There are some arguments about bus and train station, but nobody is against the 25 level 100 m tower together with two 16 level towers and one 12-story building.
PCL will combine few towers, a new bus station, a new train station, 4900 new underground parking lots... There will be a cinema, conference halls, hotels, malls, appartment buildings... Masarykova street is expected to become a boullevar (with fancy trees...) and there have been some discussions about a city railroad although there seems a bit to far for now.

German ECE or Dutch AM Development will construct the whole thing. It will take quite a long time to construct all of it. It is expected that railroad and bus stations together with the 100m tower will be built first.

@SpotlessMind: LOL :) The left building is Hotel Lev***** Intercontinental, the most luxurious hotel in Ljubljana...

About Kolizej... As I said before, our Minister of Culture cancelled the start of the contruction for at least another year as he says the old Kolizej is extremely important for cultural heritage... Most people believe that's stupid as it was an old unimportant Austrian hospital which is falling apart already. Most architects believe it will collapse itself soon if they don't do something... I still hope they're going to demolish it as there is really no point of having it if they can't protect it... That building is a disgrace for Ljubljana city center...

PCL: The construction will be proceeding in many phases as the project is enormous... As I said before, they will start building the tower and new train station at first together with the underpass between Bežigrad and old city center (they will combine it somehow with current underpass). Many building around train station will be demolished, but the old train station will stay as it is an important building.
It was expected to be started at start of 2006, but there have been some complications with the premises and choosing the investor... Mayor said the construction should now start in July 2006. It is not yet known when the mainstation will be finished.

@SinCity: Yeah, I am planning to make a thread for Ljubljana projects and current status soon. :)

Sorry for a bit of delay...

Kolizej project is on hold because currenty Kolizej (which is hardly standing) is a heritage building and recently Ministry od Culture declared Kolizej as a heritage building of national importance...

http://www.dobrojutro.net/slike/novice/KOLIZEJ.jpg

That is why it looks really bad for this project. But maybe municipality will move now and listen to other Slovenian architects which proposed very interesting projects too. They would leave part of Kolizej and renovate it and build few other very nice buildings for a possible congress and cultural center. It is true they wouldn't build a tower, but the project looks very promissing too. It would be a smart idea for the sake of Hotel Lev***** which is just across the street.
I will try to find some photos of other proposals which were made by Slovenian architects. It is interesting that they weren't allowed to participate in a competition for new Kolizej.
