Funny, innovative, surprising and smart; Comedy Central, the world’s only all-comedy network will be launching on DStv channel 122 on 6 December 2011 at 19:30 and will be available to DStv Premium subscribers.

Comedy Central Africa is a 24-hour channel which will offer viewers groundbreaking comedy from the Comedy Central library. The channel will include global hit franchises such as South Park and The Daily Show and content from around the world as well as South Africa.

Comedy Central is overflowing with non-stop, provocative comedy content including stand-up and sketch comedy, satire, offbeat comedy TV series, classic comedy sitcoms and comedy specials. The channel will contain a mixture of international comedy hits plus some locally-produced content.

DStv is all about big entertainment and Comedy Central is a good fit for our platform. Around the world, Comedy Central is famous for touching people’s funny bones and we are confident that Comedy Central Africa will become the new home of comedy for viewers on the African continent.

Comedy Central Africa will kick off with a one hour stand-up special from US superstar comedian and ventriloquist Jeff Dunham (Sparks of Insanity). This will be followed by the African premiere of The Comedy Central Roast of Charlie Sheen and two brand new episodes of South Park back to back and then an episode of The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and The Colbert Report.

The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and The Colbert Report are brilliant, watched them every day in Dubai, also looking forward to SNL

Of the better channels DStv has launched in recent times. TLC is almost a re-run channel for Discovery Channel or a dumping channel for less-premier shows. Investigation Discovery is a reincarnation of Crime & Investigation. Studio Universal has been the most disappointing, the movie selection is generally narrow and quite old. SonyMAX has been a reincarnation of the terminated Animax with the addition of mindless male-burp-and-boobs shows. Comedy Central is the best we've had in a while!

I think you might change your tune quite soon annman :(

I've had a look at the schedule and its not spectacular.... its nice for a lil while then degenerates into the "classic sitcom" frame that DStv love...

^^ Noticed that this morning... I'm not completely happy with DStv at the moment. Honestly, if they only had Discovery Channel, BBC Entertainment, Disney Channel, CNN, SkyNews, Mnet, BBC Lifestyle, Movie Magic and Nat'l Geographic, VH1, Vuzu... they could pretty much dump the other channels. They claim to have so many channels, but apart from the aforementioned, the rest are generally duplicates or sub-par.

Everything else is becoming a re-run, low-budget version of the aforementioned channels. Hoping Comedy Central will get better and not degenerate.

Completely agree, though of course my channel list differs SLIGHTLY :)

Disco, BBC (all 3 of them), Mnet, Nat'l Geo, VH1, SuperSport, and the HD channels..

(less the SuperSport channels that show soccer.. couldn't give a toss about soccer tbh)

^^ Oops, forgot my beloved rugby, life without Supersport would be hell! :) Didn't include HD channels as most of the time, they're a simulcast of the SD offering.

South Africa has quite a good network of television channels.
