I dont know if most people regard this as private info or whatever, but ive just gotten my Learners yesterday, and yes. I am a donor.

Reasoning? if im dead i dont need them. They cna save someone who needs them

Im sure there are people who arent, and have interesting reasons as to why not.

So how about everyone else?

I'm an organ donor.

There is a surprising number of potential donations are not done because of complaints raised by the deceased persons family. Mine doesn't particularly care, but when a cousin died his family decided that they didn't want it happening, even though he was a listed donor. Seems rather disrespectful to me...ignoring a loved ones wishes.

How is that possible?
you sign the document saying that you are an organ donor. It is a legal document.
I dont see how the family has any right to stop it.

No - gays aren't allowed. Even though I am healthy, run, workout and eat well I am still not allowed.

Its their loss not mine:P

I didn't believe it at first, so I did some reasearch.

I couldn't find anything relating to gays and donating organs, but on the Red Cross site, http://www.giveblood.redcross.org.au/Donor/guide/eligible.asp

You will not be able to give blood if you have:

- practised male to male sex within the past 12 months (a waiting period applies)

Strange.

i think it is because it is a much higher risk of get HIV/AIDS if u have gay sex.

^ LOL, im not an organ donar, i just think the doctors would be too keen to get them out of me and I may be like 2 min dead, there is still the possibility that I will come back. Thats just my 2 cents.

Drive carefully - they are waiting for your heart, cornias, liver, kidney, lungs and anything else they can scavenge.

I'm not - basically because when I got my Ls at 16 I was unsure. I've never got around to changing it.

I have heard if you put yes they are less likely to try to save you if they need your organs. Doesn't sound right but you never know, some of those medical folk are dodgy at the best of times.

Donor too.

I say if you aren't a donor then you go to the BACK of the waiting list for organs!

I don't really know if the hospital staff would be less likely to save you but to be able to donate but keep in mind you have to be brain dead and most people don't come back from that. Only 1-2% of people who die are suitable for donation anyway. Pretty much all of them are people who have become brain dead on hospital grounds and have been immediately attached to a respirator. So, in a car accident if you die at the scene you are very unlikely to be accetable (unless you die just opposite the hospital...) because there is simply to much damage caused by lack of oxygen and toxin build up.

However, the idea of people knicking your organs when you're still alive is scary to put it lightly...

To answer Blends question about why family members can stop organ donation, the reality is that even though your drivers licence may give your consent to such a procedure, family members can override your wishes. And they do between 30-40% of the time in Australia. I would say that most people would agree with donation in general (maybe up to 80 or 90%), but when actually faced with it...especially since people often don't really understand what brain dead actually means. A loved one can look very much alive.

I'm an organ donor

I have chosen this path for two reasons.

1) I cannot take my organs with me in death, so giving the gift of life to many people seems logical.

2) I ask myself 'What if I, or a loved one, needed an organ transplant?"

Too easy, and it won't hurt one bit.

I'm also a donor. I think it's one of the best things you can do to someone & I'd rather see my organs put to use rather than it rotting away with my body in the grave. It also gives a person a second chance at life.

The Catholic Church & Cardinal Pell doesn't have a problem with Christians being organ donors as when Christ returns, his followers will be given a new body.

Whoever sits on a 5 year waiting list for a liver, only to end up with mine, is one poor poor bastard.
