I find it really amazing how you can type anything (within reason) on google and you can acquire an image or text about almost any querie. Yahoo was once the numero uno but its been surpassed by the massive Google serach engine.
Does this mean the end of book research?
My kids use it for homework and it sure helps with assignments ect.
The internet is a very powerful form of information indeed and can be used for good as well as evil.lol
Obviously i didnt mean God "literally' in the religious sense but its an unreal concept! Who would of thought it was possible just a few years ago.Sure makes things alot easier.
I dont know where id be without it? I always use it for scraper images ect and comes in handy for research ect/..
Ill never stop visiting the library for indepth research. Theres something about sitting down to a good book?hehe

dare to learn>

Do people still read books? I actually had a lecturer who said that all of the information that we used in an assignment had to be from the internet. I won't say what assignment but it was to do with cutting edge technology and imaging which aparently there are no recent books on.

For a time Yahoo was powered by google - and then google broke away.

Before google I liked infoseek.com. It was bought by ABC (USA) as part of the go network and was absolutely trashed. Hence I switched to google. Ironically, infoseek.com is now powered by google.

I like the simplicity of google, and a very plain front page means fast loading. I also love the "Cached" feature, if a site is down you can usually see a cache of it. This can also be used to see www.georgewbush.com, which cannot be viewed outside the USA.

Maybe google is the anti-christ ?
Imagine if some evil government or superpower bought it, propaganda could reach millions. I'd really start getting worried if microsoft bought it.
I mean soon all our kids will have to think about is search terms. once they have a direct connection from the internet to their brain, who needs education? stuff learning stuff over and over again, just learn when you need to ;)
sigh...

ah IM. Fun stuff, sometimes.

Google is only truly god when you use it to its full potential - start with using Boolean Operators (http://www.searchability.com/boolean.htm) and you'll wet your pants, well not really, but Boolean operators help to make the results even more refined / exactly what you're looking for.

The downside of Google are Google bombs (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Google_bomb).

And no Internet searching will not mean the end of books - the ratio of bullshit to useful material on the Internet is about 90 % to 10% & the regime to protect intellectual property & the drive to push content online still isn't as thorough & great as compared to having a hard copy. There's always going to be a need for Information Managers, there's always going to be a need for archivists and there's always going to be a need for Libraries, however the concept of Library may change.

I have an IM3 exam on Monday :D

I'm dependent on books in order to find material for uni assignments and I find them to be as reliable and useful as material on the web. I find published material to be just as indepth as those on the web. I only use the web to find material I cannot find in books (journal articles, recent stats etc). Also, an increasing number of publications are published both in print and on the web eg journal articles which makes locating them much easier.
