...by the time you finish reading this post I dug up from the old forum (about 2 years old now).

There's not enough posts like this one on the forum anymore. Everyone's too well behaved.

How is the Airforce going Neo?

Wonderful. I'm based at RAAF East Sale, which although is a pretty good base, the location is shit. Got a ride on a herc last week which was great.

I've got about 4 months left of my Air Traffic Control course until they let me loose controlling F-111s and F/A-18s through to Qantas 747s and Cessna 172s. As you probably know Darwin, Townsville and Newcastle airports are all controlled by the RAAF and as such are the big Air Traffic postings. In addition to Pearce (just north of perth), which is an all military airfield, but is very busy due to 2FTS and other foreign military flying schools.

Military Air Traffic is the way to go, we are trained in both Tower and Radar Approach control. Also trained in Procedural Approach Control (controlling without a radar) which we are the only military ATCs to do so (hence why the RAAF ATC was deployed to Iraq). Only a few countries in the world have controllers who are qualified in procedural.

The course is challenging but rewarding - I love the lifestyle of the Air Force. I am starting to wonder why everyone doesn't join. I'll be a pilot officer in may and then it's automatic time promotion to Flight Lieutennant over 4 years.

Good on you, glad it's going well.

I used to work at Brisbane ATCC (in the ATC training section, not as a controller) so I have a bit of an idea what you will be doing.

You should be able to wangle a back seat ride in a Hornet or Hawk once you get out on one of the bases.

Have you learnt what an ash-tray jumper is yet?

LOL This is what I wrote on the last page...

Geez - I hope so, or I'll have to come in there and bitch-slap the lot of you.

I don't even care about this topic either - but it's like every day you guys are adding another page of argument, so I can't look away!

Oh, that brings back memories. But did you have to drag that back up? Some of the n00b-ish stuff i say in that is humiliating.
