________…Continued from part 2

Now we have reached our goal; the brand new opera house that I heard about.
I like the futuristic design very much! It was the first time I saw it. This is the view from Amalienborg Castle.

The opera was built as late as October 2004, just a few days before we was there. What a coincidence!

The tall orange/blue coloured crane is part of a boat that helped build Malmö’s new university bridge.

Amalienborg. This is the most famous royal castle of Denmark. The architect Niels Eigtved was influenced by the rococo style. Amalienborg was built by Frederik V to celebrate the 300th anniversary of the House of Oldenburg. Amalienborg consists of four palaces built around a circular square, trafficated by guards.

The classic domed marble church, or Frederiks Kirke as it’s actually called. It is connected to Amalienborg.

Now we head towards downtown.

Nyhavn. Very popular and famous entertainment district with many pubs in the old harbour.

http://skyline.250free.com/Nyhavn2.jpg
Nyhavn actually means “new harbour” in English despite it is the old harbour!
It is close to Kongens Nytorv and downtown.

Christiansborg and the bourse house.

A wider pano even includes the ugly modern Riksbanken and St. Nikolajs Kirke.

Below: Views of Strøget after dusk had fallen:

Illum’s, Denmark’s 2nd largest department store.

This ad at Radhuspladsen gives a somewhat surrealistic feeling.

The End.

A very nice thread... Always nice to see pic of copenhagen, evrn for those of us who live here...As for the "new harbour" thing...Well, it was the new harbour when they dug it out in 1671...Most of the houses are still from that time...

@cphdude I was thinking it was new because there are many new buildings (Islands Brygge, Sorte Diamant, Fisketorvet etc).
What's this part of harbour called then?

@wolkenkrabber I think the opera looks like an airplane or something.
I am not sure that it was completed in Oct. 2004, may be I misunderstood the article.

Well islands brygge is called just that, islands brygge. That where they are building al the new stuff on the harbour front. Fisketorvet is at kalvebod brygge, a bit lower on the map. A ot of the places is named after what they served as, and most of them are old industrial areas...But the harbour it self is not really called anything i guess...Or maybe somebody knows? But nyhavn is techniclly only that smal strech from the anker sculpture to the harbour front, and only those 2 paralel streets...

Is Christiansborg getting a new roof (plating)?

Yes, Nyhavn is just a few blocks.
It really looks like they remove the coating (beläggning) on Christiansborg's copper roof. After many years passes by, coppar roofs turn green, but they originally have this brownish coppar colour. So it looks like they will restore the roof to original, just like they did with the St Petri Church in Malmö.

Yes it is despite the rumours of transforming it to an arts/design center. I think (and hope) these plans have been cancelled. Anyone who knows about that?

Magasin recently sold illum (or most of it) to Merrill Lynch for about 150 million euros, so i dont think they are gonna close or change anytime soon. Apparently they have big planes and ambitions for the place...
