New rail route to help cement industry in Rajasthan

Source: Daily Bhaskar (http://daily.bhaskar.com/article/RAJ-JPR-new-rail-route-to-help-cement-industry-in-rajasthan-2596095.html)
Being just 27.8 km long, it could be one of the shortest rail sections in the country. But once completed, the Bangadgram-Ras rail section will usher in enormous benefits to cement industry. This will provide a full rail link for cement units in Ras.

Cement units in Ras in Pali district hitherto have relied on combination of rail and road link, for carting the input (coal) and also transporting their final product. The new rail line, which is likely to be in place by December 2012, will create direct rail connectivity with cement units of Ras. These cement units till now used railway connectivity till Bangadgram (nearest railway station) and were compelled to take the road route from Bangadgram to Pali.

Railway Board chairman Vinay Mittal, who was recently in Jaipur, had told journalists that the new railway link was likely to be in place by December 2012. Presently, two significant players of cement industry — Ambuja Cement and Shree Cement — are having units in Ras and the new rail link could pave the way for more cement units, exploring this place in Pali district.

Sources said in the want of direct rail link with Ras, many cement producers are shying away from exploiting the enormous potential for the industry situated there. Once the rail tracks are in place, things are likely to change.

The rail link by lowering down transportation cost is also likely to cast a shadow on price of finished cement product. New rail track is to be financed partially by the Railways and partially by the cement units. Possession of land in Pali and Ajmer district is complete while talks are underway with government to get land with forest department for the project, which will cost `150 crore.

Escalators at Jaipur, Ajmer railway stations soon

Source: Daily Bhaskar (http://daily.bhaskar.com/article/RAJ-JPR-escalators-at-jaipur-ajmer-railway-stations-soon-2740834.html)
There is some good news for railway passengers at Jaipur and Ajmer railway stations. The long-awaited project of installing escalators at the two premier stations of North Western Railway (NWR) is likely to start shortly.

Sources say it’s quite possible that escalators might become functional at Ajmer and Jaipur stations before March 31.

The project forming part of 2009-10 Budget pronouncements, has received a fresh lease of life with the Railway Board recently clearing the decks for it.

The Board has recently finalised the contract for supply of world-class escalators, paving the way for installation of escalators at Jaipur and Ajmer in NWR and many other stations in remaining railway zones. The two escalators will be installed at Platform No 1 and between Platform No 2 and 3 in Jaipur, while the two others will be installed platforms 1, 2 & 3in Ajmer.

When contacted on Wednesday, NWR spokesman Lalit Bohra said Railway Board has finalised the contract for supply of the escalators. With the awarding of civil and electrical engineering contracts also being finalised in Jaipur and Ajmer, the installation process at both stations will begin as soon as the escalator equipment arrive.

“The Board has cleared the decks and sought status of preparations from our side, which we’re sending to them shortly. We hope to begin the actual work soon,” the NWR spokesman said.

Ambuja Cement signs pact with RIICO for Railways siding project

JAIPUR: Jaipur Rajasthan State Industrial Development and Investment Corporation Limited (RIICO) and Ambuja Cement Limited (ACL) signed an MOU for a 7 km long railway siding.

The tracks will be laid and developed between company's cement plant at Rabriyawas in Pali district and Ras railway station in Ajmer Marwar section of North Western Railway. The siding will facilitate the transport of raw as well as finished material from the cement plant.

RIICO managing director Rajendra Bhanawat told ET that the project in terms of cost of land, laying of tracks and developing other infrastructure will cost approximately Rs. 150 crores. "We will facilitate the project by acquiring land for it while the company will have to take care of other requirements," he said.

RIICO has recently signed a similar agreement with UltraTech Cement for commissioning of a railway project in Sikar and Jhunjhunu districts. The company will lay a 6 km railway siding from villages Kolida and Beri in Sikar district to the plant site in village Turkani in Jhunjhunu district where the company is setting up a 3 million tonnes cement project with an estimated investment of Rs. 2500 crores.

Soon, Jodhpur railway station to get two new platforms

Jodhpur: Trains coming to Jodhpur will now not need to wait out side the city at other stations as two new platforms are slated to be constructed quite soon.

Several measures are likely to be taken in wake of the problems coming in the movement of trains due to technical snags at yard.

The two new platforms will also be constructed as part of these measures only.

As of now, the Jodhpur station has five platforms, and due to heavy traffic several trains fail to get space during the morning and evening hours.

Due to this, the trains often await their turn at Raikabad and Bhagat Ki Kothi stations.

The fund allotted for the construction of the platforms and work at the yard is Rs five crore.

New rail route from Chittor, traders eye more profits

Jaipur: The Rajasthan government has proposed a new railway line to boost trade along the industrial belt on the Chittorgarh-Mandsaur route. This is the second major proposal for a new line after the state government successfully pushed its earlier project of laying a new track on the Ratlam-Banswara-Dungarpur route.

The Ratlam-Banswara-Dungarpur railway line is critical for the development of several power projects lined up in the area. The new proposed railway line would cater to cement industries in the Chittorgarh-Pratapgarh area.

The proposal was tabled by the state government while signing a memorandum of understanding with the railway board in New Delhi for the Ratlam-Banswara-Dungarpur project on Tuesday.

Chief secretary Salauddin Ahmad and railway board director Vivek Sahay signed the agreement, paving way for the new railway line that would connect the tribal areas in the state.

The project would cost more than Rs 2000 crore. In a clever move, the state government has offered to pitch in with half the funds required for laying the new railway line, a move which even the ministry of railways cannot write off.

After getting the fresh proposal from the state, railway board director said that he would have the area inspected for the feasibility of a new railway line first and added that the ministry would take up the project on the format on which the Ratlam-Banswara-Dungarpur railway line has been taken up, provided the railways finds the track feasible.

Energy secretary Naresh Pal Gangwar said that the Ratlam-Banswara-Dungarpur railway line would assist in the development of power projects with a generation capacity of 4,000 MW in the Banswara region. Officials said that the railway track would also serve to ferry coal from other states to the thermal power stations in the area.

Now, Ajmer-Pushkar train trip for just R 5

Source: Daily Bhaskar (http://daily.bhaskar.com/article/RAJ-JPR-now-ajmer-pushkar-train-trip-for-just-rs-5-2777581.html)
Now, chug between Ajmer and Pushkar for just Rs 5. Till now connected via road only, the tourist hotspot of Pushkar will finally have a rupee five per passenger rail link.

Finally, the first train will on Tuesday chug down Ajmer-Pushkar track awaiting rail traffic since May 26, 2011.

The 25.7-km Ajmer-Pushkar rail line will be inaugurated by Railways minister Dinesh Trivedi in presence of Ajmer MP and Union minister of state for IT & communication Sachin Pilot and CM Ashok Gehlot on Tuesday, North Western Railway CPRO Lalit Bohra said. The Railways minister will flag off the five days every week special train from Pushkar railway station.

The 10-coach train, which will run all days except Tuesdays and Fridays will start off from Ajmer at 9.15 am and reach Pushkar at 10.40 am and return at 3.40 pm to reach Ajmer at 5 pm. A meagre fare of `5 will be charged from each passenger of the train, less than half of what is being charged by buses for the same distance.

On January 23, the first day of operation, the train will start off from Pushkar at 11.40 am and reach Ajmer at 1.07 pm, after halting at Madar, Makarwali and Burha Pushkar stations which will be part of its itinerary in future also.

The new train connecting the two religious tourism hotspots in an hour and 20 minutes will render a new mode of transport to tourists, which hitherto connected with Pushkar via road only.

The 25.7-km line between Ajmer and Pushkar was completed in 10 years at a cost of Rs 106 crore. After the completion of laying of track in April last year, the commissioner railway safety had conducted a safety inspection on May 26, 2011.

First double-decker train from Delhi to Jaipur in 2 months

NEW DELHI: The first double-decker train, to be introduced between Delhi and Jaipur, will be finally running on the tracks within the next two months before presentation of the railway budget.

The train that was to make its maiden journey in July last year was delayed by several months after the Howrah-Dhanbad prototype being run by the eastern railway faced technical snags. This train, though, is now running without a hitch prompting northern railway to take the plunge.

"We are planning a trial run from February after which we plan to start operations from March,'' said S K Sharma, CPRO (northern railway).

Sources said the railway safety commissioner is yet to give a go-ahead.

Year chugs by, Rajasthan yet to get its trains

Source: Daily Bhaskar (http://daily.bhaskar.com/article/RAJ-JPR-year-chugs-by-rajasthan-yet-to-get-its-trains-2807119.html)
The next rail budget is a month away, but various announcements made in the previous budget for Rajasthan still remain a pipe dream. Only three of the 14 trains announced in 2011-12 rail budget by the then railway minister Mamata Banerjee connecting Rajasthan with other parts of the country have started operations till date.

With the model code of conduct in force due to the ongoing elections in five states, none of the remaining eleven trains, most of them long distance, are likely to run by end of this fiscal year.

Surprisingly, the time table of the non-operational trains has been announced long back in July 2011, but the trains still remain a distant dream, even as the present railway minister Dinesh Trivedi has often reiterated that Rajasthan has a special place in his heart.

The three trains announced in previous rail budget and running presently are bi-weekly Jodhpur-Delhi (via Degana and Ratangarh), Bikaner-Delhi Superfast and the weekly Kavi Guru Express connecting Guwahati and Jaipur.

The non-starter trains include the bi-weekly Nizamuddin-Ajmer Non-AC Duronto, the much awaited Jaipur-Delhi AC double-decker and the Jaipur-Agra Fort Shatabdi Express.

Also among the non-starter new trains is the weekly Vivek Express, connecting Bandra with Jammu Tawi (via Marwar, Degana and Ratangarh), Kolkata-Ajmer weekly train, Udaipur-Bandra tri-weekly, Bhagalpur-Ajmer weekly and Varanasi-Ahmedabad weekly via Ajmer.

While 56 per cent of the new trains announced to connect Rajasthan with other parts of the country are still to be flagged off, extension of two of the five existing trains announced during the previous budget also remain incomplete.

The two trains, include Udaipur-Gwalior Express (extended up to Khajuraho) and Sultanpur-Ajmer Express (up to Ahmedabad).

During his recent visits to Jaipur, the railway minister had reiterated that Rajasthan was special for him. It still remains a mystery as to how the trains announced by his party chief for Rajasthan still remain non-starter.

North Western Railway (NWR) sources confided that with most of the non-starter trains slated to pass through the five poll-bound states, the model code of conduct was blocking their first journey.

NWR official spokesman Lalit Bohra said, “We’re awaiting the green signal to the non-starter trains from the Railway Board, due to which the dates of their start cannot be declared.”

Rajasthan trains remain on paper

Source: Deccan Herald (http://www.deccanherald.com/content/223911/rajasthan-trains-remain-paper.html)
The next budget of the railways is just a month away. But announcements made in the budget last year, including new trains for Rajasthan, have not been implemented. Only three of the 14 trains announced last year are running.

With the model code of conduct in force due to the ongoing Assembly elections in five states, none of the announcements are likely to converted into action before the next budget. This is because most of the trains are long-distance ones running through different states. Ironically, the running schedules for these trains were announced in June last year. The three trains that started running last year are Jodhpur-Delhi Super Fast, Bikaner-Delhi Super Fast and Guwahati-Jaipur Kavi Guru Express.

The trains that were promised but never saw the light of the day include the much-hyped Delhi-Jaipur Double Decker, Bandra-Jammu Tawi Vivek Express, Bhagalpur-Ajmer Super Fast and Nizamuddin-Ajmer Duranto, among others. The extension plans of two of five existing trains also remain on paper.

In his recent visit to Rajasthan, the railway minister had asked why the trains announced his predecessor Mamata Banerjee were not pressed into service.

The promised trains will not start running until Assembly polls are over in five states, as the trains will pass through some of these states, railway sources said.

North Western Railway gets more passenger

Source: Deccan Herald (http://www.deccanherald.com/content/224444/north-western-railway-gets-more.html)
The North Western railway headquartered in Jaipur registered an impressive growth in passenger traffic and revenue generation.

Addressing a media conference General manger of the NWR RC Agarwal said the growth in passenger traffic in the railway has been to the tune of 36 per cent in the last five years which is an exceptional performance.

He said the 17 per cent growth in passenger traffic reported last year is the highest reported in the Indian railways.

He added that this has reflected in the revenue receipts. Compared to Rs 1,840 crore in 2005-06 the revenue has reported a substantial increase of Rs 3,380 crore in 2010-11, which is 12.6 per cent, and the growth in revenue has been 15.71 per cent for the year 2011-12.

He said the Indian Railways had awarded the NWR in 2010 for its RPF security shield initiative. The Yatri Mitra scheme was appreciated at the national level for being passenger friendly. He added that an integrated security system is being envisaged for the Jaipur railway station and will be made operational shortly.

The disaster management plan for the headquarters and the division has been certified as ISO 9000, which is a first in Indian Railways.

He claimed that NWR has been maintaining a consistently high performance in punctuality at 96 per cent in the last three years which is the highest in the country.

Agarwal said all the new trains announced in the last budget would be made operational before March 31.

North Western Railway registers 15.71 pc growth

The North Western Railway has recorded a 15.71 per cent growth in the first three quarters of the current fiscal, an NWR official said.

The total earning of NW Railway till December 2011 was Rs 2,831 crore, marking an increase of Rs 384.27 crore compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, NWR General Manager R C Agrawal said at a press conference here.

He said the NWR expected its total earning to be around Rs 3,700 crore at the end of this fiscal.

He also said a proposal involving an expenditure of Rs 1,200 crore to man all level crossings under the NWR has been forwarded to the Railway Board for sanction.

Meanwhile, the NWR has held responsible driver and guard of Delhi-Ajmer Shatabdi Express for for its unscheduled halting at Bandikui railway station in Rajasthan last year allegedly at the behest of former BJP MP Vijay Goel.

Goel had allegedly got the train stopped at the station where BJP workers received him.

Jaipur: The long wait for Jaipur-Delhi AC double-decker train may finally be over soon. The railway passengers could have a memorable Holi gift in the form of much-awaited train which was announced by the then railway minister Mamata Banerjee in 2011-12 rail budget.

North Western Railway (NWR) sources have confided that special double-decker coaches being made at rail coach factory in Kapurthala are nearly complete and could be handed over for commissioning by March 1. A highly-placed NWR official said once the special double-decker coaches are handed over to railways, the much-awaited train could start running between Delhi and Jaipur by March 15. In the recent past, both chairman railway board Vinay Mittal and NWR GM RC Agarwal had said that the Jaipur-Delhi double-decker will start running anytime before March 31.

When contacted in this regard, NWR official spokesman Lalit Bohra, while without spelling out exact day, said, “The double-decker will run before March 31.”

Jaipur double-decker train may chug by March 31

Source: Deccan Herald (http://www.deccanherald.com/content/227544/jaipur-double-decker-train-may.html)
The much awaited air-conditioned double-decker train between Delhi and Jaipur — announced in the last Railway Budget will become operational within the current financial year that ends on March 31, according to North Western Railway.

However, with the deadline barely one-and-a half month away, it is going to be a difficult task for the department.

The railway officials say the delay is due to non-availability of the coaches which are still being manufactured. “The train would become operational once we get the rakes. The train is likely to be launched anytime in March,” said Lalit Bohra, CPRO of North-Western Railway.

The ambitious high speed train will be second such train after the AC double-decker train that was launched between Dhanbad and Howrah in October last year. Railway officials say the technical difference between the rakes of the two trains is the major cause behind the delay.

The daily train scheduled to run between Jaipur and Sarai Rohilla station in the capital will have 70 per cent more seating capacity than Shatabdi Express.

The train to Pink city, a major tourist destination, is highly awaited ever since it was announced. Railway officials say there is heavy passenger rush on the Delhi-Jaipur route and the new rail services will provide affordable AC travel to all. The double-decker service is also expected to significantly reduce the rush for Volvo buses and use of personal vehicles on this route.

The double-decker coaches would have common doors for boarding. A flight of stairs would take passengers to the lower floor, which is partly under the platform level.

Another flight of stairs would take passengers to the upper floor. Like Shatabdi express, the train would have only sitting arrangement with racks for luggage.

At present there are only two fully air-conditioned trains for Jaipur from Delhi - Ahmedabad Rajdhani Express and Delhi-Ajmer Shatabdi Express.

Source: Dainik Bhaskar (http://www.bhaskar.com/article/HAR-HAR-HIS-jat-movement-track-will-pass-by-train-2904449.html?C3-HAR=)

Goods trains to ply soon between Munabao and Karachi

Source: TOI (http://articles.timesofindia.indiatimes.com/2012-02-21/jaipur/31082455_1_munabao-passenger-train-goods-trains)
After 60 years, preparations have started for reopening an old route between Rajasthan and Sindh in Pakistan for trade and business. The work has begun and soon goods trains would start plying between Munabao and Karachi. After which Munabao would become a huge commercial centre.

Harish Choudhary, Member of Parliament from Barmer-Jaisalmer, has been making efforts since long to start commercial activity via the Rajasthan and Sindh rail route. He had raised the issue in the Parliament too. Union commerce minister has responded positively to Choudhary's request.

At present, Thar express passenger train plies weekly on this rail route. "With plying of goods train between Pakistan and India, western Rajasthan will benefit," MP Choudhary said. He also said, "Revenue of the centre and state governments would increase, and economic situation of people will improve as job opportunities will increase."

"Sojat's henna, limestone of Jaisalmer, stainless steel utensils of Jodhpur, bhujia, papad, rasgulla and carpets of Bikaner, handicrafts of Barmer, etc., will go to Pakistan; while textiles, dry fruits, slippers, threads, leather items will come in from Pakistan," he said.

Presently, there is heavy demand of Jodhpur's mave ki kachori, gadra and ghotuan laddu of Jaisalmer in Pakistan. Passengers going by Thar Express especially take these three items for their relatives. There is also heavy demand for Assam's betel nuts. It is to be mentioned that prior to the Indo-Pak War in 1965, goods trains would ply between Jodhpur and Karachi.

There existed strong business relations between Sindh and Marwar. After the war, the rail tracks were ripped up between Munabao and Khokharapaar and the rail route closed. The Thar Express started plying on this route from February 18, 2006 and since then there was demand to start goods train on this route.

Three years ago, a delegation of the chamber of commerce had come to Jodhpur to find out the possibilities of starting business through the Munabao route. In September last year, when commerce minister of Pakistan Fahim came to Ajmer, he was asked to start goods trains. The centre is looking to the possibilities of starting goods train on this route and has reserved land at Jaisinder village near Munabao, later on the request of custom officers the land was shifted to Gadra railway station near Munabao, sources said.

The centre would allot budget for construction of a building for customs on the decision of opening the rail route for trade and commerce between Munabao and Sindh.

Union Minister of State for Communications & IT Sachin Pilot on Friday met Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia and sought funds for the Ajmer-Kota railway line in Rajasthan. He urged Mr. Ahluwalia to make provision for Rs.821.6 crore so that the 145-km railway line could be announced in the forthcoming Railway Budget.

“This rail link is very crucial for connecting two major cities of the State that would benefit people of at least five districts. While Ajmer is a major tourist spot, Kota is an education destination...connecting these two cities would give a boost to tourism and business in the State,” Mr. Pilot told Mr. Ahluwalia, urging him to give necessary clearances to the project so that it could be announced in the Railway Budget.

Pointing out that the technical survey for the project has already been done and is awaiting nod from the Railway Board, Mr. Pilot said he had already written to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee and Railway Minister Dinesh Trivedi seeking early clearance for the important project that would make travel easy in Rajasthan.

Source: Dainik Bhaskar (http://www.bhaskar.com/article/RAJ-UDA-mewar-gwalior-express-will-wdp---4-engine-2865124.html)

Solar power to light up railway stations in Jodhpur division

JAISALMER: Railway stations under the Jodhpur division will be lit up using solar energy soon under a plan being made in this regard. Discussions for the pilot project have already started and initially a few railway stations will be selected for this experiment, where solar panels will be put up to generate power supply.

Apart from this, work will be started on three types of action plan to eliminate unmanned railway crossings by 2015, Jodhpur division rail manager (DRM) R K Jain said.

During his stay in Jaisalmer, Jain said there is a need of running AC trains looking at the increasing number of tourists to destinations like Jaisalmer, Jodhpur and Jaipur among others. Jain said he has already talked to senior officers in this regard. Proposals have been sent to increase the trips of some current trains and to start new trains towards south from the Jodhpur division, he said.

On the dedicated freight corridor (DFC), the DRM said the rail ministry has started work at the high-level for the corridor. After laying new tracks under the DFC, new long-distance trains for Jaipur, Mumbai and Delhi among others will be started.

Talking about modernization, Jain said work is in progress under which the signal system has been upgraded. Under the multi-stroke colour light system, new signal systems have been set up at many stations between Jodhpur and Jaipur, he said.

Similarly, the old mechanized signal system between Raikabagh and Phalodi railway stations from Jodhpur to Jaisalmer is being changed to the new system.

He said around 272 unmanned railway crossings out of a total of 500 railway crossings under Jodhpur division are being eliminated by taking up three types of action plan. All of 272 unmanned railway crossings will be eliminated by 2012. Efforts would also be made to get solution on a few unmanned gates by constructing railway over bridges and guards will be appointed at some of the few unmanned gates, Jain said.

The DRM said e-banking has been started for paying salaries to employees of the Jodhpur division and now salaries of around 92% of them are directly credited in their bank accounts.

On the lack of loco pilots in the Jodhpur division, Jain said 45 new loco pilots have been appointed and at present training is being imparted to them. By April this year, these loco pilots will be deployed and apart from this, approval has been received for 45 other loco pilots.

Jain further said the start Suryanagari express from Jaisalmer is not possible but efforts are being made to set up sleeper and AC coaches on trains from Bikaner. He added that all possible efforts would be made to check touts.

AC double-decker train to run shortly on Jaipur-Delhi tracks

Source: Daily Bhaskar (http://daily.bhaskar.com/article/RAJ-JPR-ac-double-decker-train-to-run-shortly-on-jaipur-delhi-tracks-3113658.html)
Rail passengers travelling between Jaipur and Delhi can finally have reasons to rejoice. After a long wait, the test-run of the elusive double-decker air-conditioned train has been started on Saturday between Jaipur and Delhi Sarai Rohilla.

According to North Western Railways (NWR) officials, the train left for Delhi from Jaipur at 8 am on Saturday with a proposed speed of 80 km/hr. It will depart for Jaipur from Delhi at 10.30 am on Sunday. Its expected time to reach Jaipur is 4.35 pm. The next day, the AC double-decker will leave Jaipur again for Delhi at 8.15 am with a proposed speed of 110 km/hr. The test-run will be finally over on April 17 with its departure from Delhi at 10.30 am to reach the destination at 3.35 pm.

The air-conditioned wagons for the train reached Jaipur on Wednesday evening and the NWR authorities will give the green signal to its maiden run after the test-run is over in few days.

The two AC double decker trains, one connecting Jaipur with Delhi and the other connecting Mumbai with Ahmedabad were announced by the then Railways Minister Mamata Banerjee during the 2011-12 Rail Budget.

The 13-coach train was to have specially-designed double-decker coaches, with 70 percent more occupancy than the Shatabdi Express. Not only is non-availability of specially-designed coaches blocking the start of Delhi-Jaipur AC double-decker, but similar crunch has affected the Jaipur-Agra Shatabdi Express.

Source: Dainik Bhaskar (http://www.bhaskar.com/article/RAJ-JAI-ac-may-need-to-double-decker-train-and-wait-3349429.html?PRVNX=)
http://img36.imageshack.us/img36/9811/ac1e.jpg

Railway minister Mukul Roy and Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit flag off a double-decker, air-conditioned train from Delhi to Jaipur on Friday.
The Minister of Railways, Shri Mukul Roy and Chief Minister of Delhi, Smt. Sheila Dikshit flagged off the AC Double Decker train between Delhi Sarai Rohilla-Jaipur from Delhi Sarai Rohilla station today. The Minister of State for Railways, Shri K. H. Muniyappa, Mayor of M.C.D., Smt. Meera Aggarwal and other dignitaries were also present on the occasion. Addressing the gathering on the occasion, Shri Mukul Roy said that the first AC Double Decker train was introduced between Howrah-Dhanbad in 2011 which was found to be satisfactory. He said that with the introduction of this much awaited Air Conditioned Double Decker service between Delhi and Jaipur, the Indian Railways have fulfilled the dream of the travelling public. He said that AC Double Decker coach which has been designed in-house and manufactured at Rail Coach Factory, Kapurthala, a Production Unit of Indian Railways is a noteworthy achievement.
A beautifully decorated train left from at 17:35 hours from Delhi Sarai Rohilla and is scheduled to reach Jaipur at 22:05 hours.
The train will run regularly August 25, 2012. Moreover, the Jaipur-Delhi Sarai Rohilla AC double decker train will leave from Jaipur at 6:00 hours to reach Delhi Sarai Rohilla station.
The train contains all chair cars and has the capacity of sitting 120 passengers in each coach. No of seats in each deck are:
Upper Deck: 50
Lower Deck: 48
On ends: 22
The coaches have been fully designed at Rail Coach Factory Kapurthala. As far as designing of coach is concerned the adjustment of size has been done in the lower portion of the trains as it was not possible to increase the height of the coaches due to old railway bridges.
The Railway Minister said that the design of the Double Decker coaches was a mighty challenge for the Railways as the entire Rail network and coach designs need to meet standard dimensions in length, breadth and height as per bridges, overhead electricity wire, tunnels, etc. It is not feasible to either enhance the width of the coach or increase its height. In keeping with these limitations, the railway officials worked out the design to enable accommodation of 120 passengers in the new coaches instead of 78 passengers in the existing chair cars of Shatabdi type. This makes the air-conditioned Double Decker production a major achievement. More Passengers can thus travel at most reasonable costs with the comfort of air-conditioned travel. Shri Roy said that the coaches of this AC Double Decker are made of stainless steel, which reduces the weight of the coaches. In keeping with the safety of the services, the coaches are designed with anti-climbing technology and have crash-worthy shells. Through the air springs in these coaches, passengers can derive greater ease and comfortable in travel, he said.
Shri Mukul Roy reiterated the commitment of the Indian Railways in delivering greater convenience to its passengers while keeping costs for these increased comforts minimal to the traveler. He also congratulated all the officers and staff of the Indian Railways for their zeal to deliver such convenience and comfortable mode of travel to the public.

North Western Railway has started using modern machines to clear tracks. The cleaning is going on Jaipur Delhi route from Araniya station to Jaipur. So 68 km of cleaning near khatipura station has been done. By next month cleaning will be done till jaipur station. After this, cleaning of Jaipur-Sawai madhopur track will begin. Earlier such work use to be done through manpower. The machine cleans 2400 meters of track in 4 hours.

Due to running of trains, the track concrete breaks apart and sand gathers. This poses the risk of the track sinking in monsoons.

MEMU coach factory in Rajasthan may be announced in rail budget

JAIPUR: The Railway budget this year may bring in some cheer for Rajasthan. Indications are that a Mainline Electric Multiple Unit (MEMU) coach factory in Bhilwara is likely to be announced.

It is believed that in a recent meeting of the chief minister Ashok Gehlot with the railway minister Pawan Kumar Bansal the setting up of the first-ever MEMU coach factory has taken a definite shape and the announcement may come in the rail budget 2013-14.

Gehlot on Tuesday said, "We have clearly told them that the state government will provide at least 200 acres of land in Bhilwara and will give every possible help in establishing the MEMU coach factory in Bhilwara."

"Since no such rail factory has ever come up in Rajasthan, if the railways decide it for Bhilwara, we are ready to give them the required land," added Gehlot.

Prior to the Gehlot's statements, the railways has decided to join hands with the state-owned BHEL for setting up a MEMU coach factory to cater to the growing demand of local and suburban trains.

According to railways sources, these coaches are equipped with higher acceleration capacity, expected to move faster on electrified tracks and would benefit daily commuters.

They said the railway minister is expected to announce the setting up of the modern MEMU coach factory in Bhilwara in his maiden rail budget on February 26.

"While Rajasthan will provide the land, BHEL will set up the Rs 1,000-crore factory in a joint venture with the railways," railway sources said, adding, "modalities of the project are being worked out''.

The railways is likely to sign a memorandum of understanding with BHEL and the Rajasthan government for this project.

According to the railways sources, the factory in Rajasthan is expected to manufacture about 400 MEMU coaches annually. MEMU trains have engines on both sides which help them operate in either direction. A MEMU train with nine coaches can carry 1,800 passengers as each coach has a seating capacity of 100 passengers and an equal number of people can stand as there is space for standing as well.

BHEL is already into the manufacturing of diesel and electric locomotives at its plant in Jhansi and has an annual capacity to make around 50 engines.

Rail budget: Rajasthan to 'drive' home all the goodies?

Daily Bhaskar (http://daily.bhaskar.com/article/RAJ-JPR-rail-budget-rajasthan-to-drive-home-all-the-goodies-4191236-NOR.html)
Rajasthan is likely to receive some sops from railway minister Pawan Kumar Bansal when he announces the 2013-14 rail budget on Tuesday.

Taking into account that Rajasthan will head to polls this year, chief minister Ashok Gehlot had presented "request slips" to Bansal to better their chances in the elections.

According to reports, the desert state is likely to get at least over a dozen new trains and half-a-dozen extensions. This when the overall number of new trains will not be more than 100 this year.

According to Times of India, Jaipur is likely to get a direct train to destinations like Lucknow and may get an extra train to Jammu.

The report claims that Bansal has been receiving requests from MPs of Rajasthan for a long time. Among them includes a request to provide an extra train between Jaipur and Jammu Tawi.

The minister is also expected to increase the frequency of Jaipur- Chennai, Jaipur- Bengaluru trains.

Other likely announcement include at least 40 DMU trains for Jodhpur, Phulera, Ajmer, Merta city and other parts of the state, claimed the paper quoting sources in the North Western Railway. There is also a possibility to announce a train connecting Pushkar with Haridwar. It is also expected that Ajmer-Haridwar train may be extended till Pushkar to facilitate the passengers of the two holy cities.

The ministery is also considering a proposal by chief minister Ashok Gehlot for an intercity train connecting Jaipur to his hometown Jodhpur.

The rail minister is also expected to announce a manufacturing unit of Mainline Electric Multiple Unit (MEMU) coach factory in Bhilwara. The state government has alsready allotted land for the project and Bansal is likely to make an official announcement in this regard, the report claimed.

Other things which might get a nod from the railway minister include survey work for Pushkar-Merta route, Tonk-Deoli, Jaipur-Tonk, Ajmer-Tonk and Kota-Tonk rail routes.

This budget might have a place for Jodhpur-Phulera doubling work which will decrease the travel time between Bikaner and Jodhpur and will have a direct connectivity between the two places.

New rail line in Jaisalmer to benefit limestone industry

JAISALMER: Limestone industries here are upbeat after announcement for completion of the rail line between Sanu and Hamira in Jaisalmer in the rail budget. It will also benefit the Army.

According to Rajasthan State Mines and Minerals Ltd (RSMML) managing director Ajitabh Sharma, the move will trigger a spurt in demands for Jaisalmer's limestones from various steel plants across the country. Indian Railways in collaboration with RSMML will lay tracks along the 57km long route for transporting large quantity of limestones in future, he said.

The new line will not only reduce transportation time and cost but also pollution. The Army will also benefit in being able to transport their equipment and carry out other defence work to the border areas within a short time at time of crisis.

Sharma said the requirement of steel grade limestone by SAIL will take a quantum jump after the financial year 2013-14, as indicated by a long term MoU it signed with RSMML.

He said after protracted discussions at the highest level, it was agreed by the state chief secretary, who is also the chiarman of RSMML, that 50% of the cost shall be borne by RSMML and the remaining 50% by railways for laying of the tracks from Thaiyat Hameera to Sanu mines. The total projected cost of laying of the rail line is Rs 236.93 crore.

Giving details, Sharma said a station at Mokala will be constructed in between this 57km rail track on which goods trains will halt. The detailed plan will be approved in the next three to four days and the rail track will be ready in two years.

He said around 27 lakh tonne of limestones is being supplied to various steel plants across the country from RSMM's Sanu mines. Currently, the limestones are transported to the railway station 45 km away from the mines, through hundreds of trucks. Three years ago, the railway had given an estimate of Rs 163 crore for laying the new rail line. Now, around Rs 250 crore has to be spent for the entire project.

Once the new rail route is ready, there will be reduction in the price of Jaisalmer limestone by Rs 100 per tonne, which would help in competing with limestones imported from abroad.

RSMML group general manager P C Purohit said the public sector company pays maximum rail freight in north west railway in the country. Every year, around 27 lakh tonne limestones from Jaisalmer railway station go to steel plants of Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) and Tata in Durgapura, Bhilai, Bokaro, Rourkela, Barkpur, Raipur, Raigarh and other places. Bansal green light for railway line in Tonk

JAIPUR: It was a celebration time in Tonk as their wait for rail connectivity will end soon.

Union railway minister Pawan Bansal on Wednesday gave green signal to the proposal of rail line in Tonk by asking state government to provide free land and also spend 5o% of the total expenditure of the project, said North Western railway public relation manager Tarun Jain said.

In celebration a rally was taken out in Tonk city. The residents of the city have been demanding rail connectivity for more than five decades. Rail Lao Samiti (RLS) President Salim Naqvi said, "Our two generations have not seen train in Tonk, when the other cities were well connected with bigger cities through train. But, now we hope that soon we will get rail connectivity. In 1983, a delegation including me, met the then prime minister Indira Gandhi, but our efforts went in vain as till 2013, the train in Tonk remained a distant dream. But, now, railway minister Bansal gave us new hope."

Railway Board, in a letter written on Febraury 17, 2012 to the then Rajasthan chief secretary S Ahmed mentioning, "Railways have a huge throw forward of ongoing sanctioned projects and it is not possible to take up this highly un- remunerative project due to resource crunch."

The letter further added, "However, if the state government comes forward to provide land free of cost and in addition, to share atleast 50% of the construction cost, the ministry of railways may process this project for further clearances."

In 2009-10, the then railway minister had announced survey for Ajmer-Tonk-Sawai Madhopur new rail line project in budget speech. In the survey, it was found that the abstract cost of 165kilometer of new rail project was assessed as Rs709.17crore. In the survey, it was found that the state government has to provide 724.55 hactares of land in Ajmer and Tonk and Sawai Madhopur districts. The cost of land was assessed as Rs74.87crore.
