fuwad December 16th, 2011, 03:10 PM Tier-II and tier-III cities have a lot of out-bound potential
Anil Khanna, managing director, Blue Dart Express :
Prior to this, in smaller cities, we were more focused on the in-bound side. We realised that a lot of tier-II and tier-III cities have a lot of out-bound potential. A few cities that we selected and focused on in the last 5-6 months have put up a phenomenal show, with sales going up by almost five fold. These include cities like Aurangabad.

Aurangabad: Prozone Enterprises, a joint venture between Provogue (India) Limited and Capital Shopping Centres Plc, Sunday laid a foundation stone for the first phase of its proposed world class trade center here.
The four-floor trade center would be constructed in the area spreading over two lakh square feet. Each floor would include a cafeteria, a business lounge, an exquisite lobby with superior Wi-Fi connectivity on each floor to be in touch with the global clients, Prozone officials said.
The foundation stone was Sunday laid in the presence of BJP leader Gopinath Munde and minister for higher and technical education Rajesh Tope.
Speaking on the occasion Tope said, "I am happy to see that the management of the Prozone had given it a world class look and this is just a first step ahead in making Aurangabad one of the top ten cities".
He also appealed on the occasion that the companies like Videocon should come forward to establish private universities so that the higher education also gets a fillip in Marathwada region.
Expressing confidence that global players will find Aurangabad as a new destination, Munde said,"We could now invite foreign industries and business houses to invest here as all the world class facilities are available, including the five star industrial area where the Scoda plant is located".
According to Prozone officials, the trade center is expected to be completed over the next one-and-a-half years.

fuwad January 1st, 2012, 02:43 PM Aurangabad to install 50 CCTV cameras
Syed Rizwanullah TNN.
AURANGABAD: The district planning development council (DPDC) on Tuesday approved the Aurangabad police commissioner's proposal to install 50 closed circuit television cameras (CCTV) at strategic points across the city to check crime and improve traffic flow.
The meeting was presided over by district guardian minister Balasaheb Thorat. Proposals worth Rs 143.82 crore were okayed for the district for 2012-13.
Police commissioner Sanjay Kumar had sought Rs 1.5 crore for the CCTV project but the DPDC sanctioned Rs 50 lakh. "The cameras are meant for keeping a watch on the traffic flow, check vehicle thefts and crime in the night. The proposal cost includes the annual maintenance of cameras for three years. We might hire cameras for the purpose now," said Kumar.
"We have succeeded in checking vehicle thefts to a considerable extent since the average number of incidents has come down. A few days back, one vehicle was stolen every day on an average, now it has come down to one vehicle a week. The CCTV cameras would help us check the thefts further and control night crimes. Even in the absence of eye witnesses, the cameras would help us track the offenders."
The police have also decided to urge big shop owners to fix at least one or two cameras facing road, as a community service, Kumar said. The shop keepers would not be required to provide the data on a day-to-day basis but only when required.
Kumar said the guardian minister has in fact suggested the idea of approaching big business establishments for this purpose.

fuwad January 3rd, 2012, 03:33 PM Bajaj unveils the RE 60.
The Bajaj RE60 will be manufactured in Aurangabad.
http://img864.imageshack.us/img864/7294/obrf507iauto0g201201030.jpg
New Delhi: Bajaj Auto, India's second largest bike maker, finally unveiled its first four-wheeler, a low-emission car - RE 60 on the eve of the 2012 Auto Expo in New Delhi.
The company, which had in 2008 showcased a concept small car but decided not to go ahead with the project.
High fuel efficiency and lower emissions are the key factors on which the company is banking on to make its foray into the car segment a success. The company expects a big growth opportunity by targeting the three wheeler segment.
The RE 60, according to Bajaj has high fuel-efficiency ratios. Bajaj claims that this vehicle has hit 40kmpl under test conditions and a realistic mileage in daily driving conditions should be above 35kmpl. The 200cc rear-mounted engine's emissions will be an incredible 60g of CO2 per km.
The RE 60 has body coloured bumpers and funky wheels. The interiors get a central speedometer cluster, folding front windows, 44-litre boot space, 95-litre under seat storage and prominent seatbelts in cabin. This four-wheeler gets a digital twin spark tech engine. It is also available in fuel injected CNG variant.
Slated to be launched this year, its engine is a new water-cooled DTSi 4 (Digital Twin Spark Ignition) and able to accelerate to a maximum speed of 70km per hour. The small car can accommodate four people.
Though Bajaj has not yet revealed the prices for the RE 60, it is believed to be a ultra-low cost car and will compete with the Tata Nano, currently the cheapest car in the world.
Bajaj has been working with Nissan Motor Co and Renault SA on a project to develop an ultra low-cost mini car. The Bajaj RE60 will be manufactured in Aurangabad.
As per an agreement with the Renault-Nissan alliance, BAL was supposed to develop and manufacture the vehicle and sold under the badge of the alliance.
The ultra low-cost car was first scheduled to hit the roads in India in 2011, but was delayed due to differences between the partners on pricing and design.
While Renault-Nissan wanted to price the car at around $2,500, Bajaj insisted on lowering the overall cost of ownership.
In 2010, Renault-Nissan announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding with Bajaj Auto to take forward their ULC car project. As per the MoU, design, engineering, manufacturing and supply base expertise for the ULC would be executed by Bajaj with the support of the alliance, while branding, marketing and selling will be by Renault-Nissan.
"They have not seen the product yet. They have seen only on virtual media. They will see it in Auto-Expo. If they are disinterested in the four wheeler they are free to walk away," Rajiv Bajaj, managing director, Bajaj Auto, said.
"Last century was scooters, this century was motorcycle. We have made a remarkable transition from a scooter to a motorcycle company. We've gone from selling cheapest scooters in the country to some of the most expensive motorcycles. For the last 8-9 quarters, Bajaj Auto has been the world's most profitable auto company. There has been valid criticism that Bajaj has not done justice to its 3 wheeler business even though we are largest in world. We have been urged to do something dramatic for the 3 wheeler business, as dramatic as the transformation from Chetak to Pulsar. These are a host of features that are not normal for this segment just like when we launched Pulsar. It's a testimony to our engineering," Bajaj added.

fuwad January 25th, 2012, 06:50 PM National Anthem of India: Over 15,000 sing 'Jana Gana Mana' in unison; create world record
AURANGABAD: In a rousing display of patriotism and unity, over 15,000 people from the city today participated in a mass singing of national anthem 'Jana Gana Mana', creating a world record in the process.
With a tally of 15,243, they took India into the 'Guinness Book of World Records' for "the most people singing a national anthem simultaneously", erasing the previous record held by Pakistan for 5,800 individuals, the organisers said.
Andrea Banfi, Head of Adjudicators, Guinness World Records Ltd (GWR), who had flown in from London, handed over a certificate acknowledging the feat, to Rajya Sabha MP and Chairman of city-based Lokmat Media, Vijay Darda, who accepted it on behalf of the local citizens.
Lokmat Media had organised the event at a sports complex here in Central Maharashtra to commemorate the completion of 100 years of the national anthem.
Talking to news persons, Darda showered praises on the city residents for creating the record.
"Aurangabad has done the nation proud, and we are humbled to have helped in the process. This is our collective gift to the nation on the eve of Republic Day. Aurangabad has put up a truly splendid show of national solidarity and India's unity in diversity."
People came from all walks of life and far-flung areas of Aurangabad to take part in the event. The entire stadium, with an official capacity of 45,000, was jam-packed. Hence, the final GWR tally of 15,243 came as a surprise to everyone.
Banfi said, "We were not able to include all the people present at the packed stadium in the count, as it was physically impossible to court everyone.
"After the first singing, many people left. But, for us to do a proper count as per the GWR standards, we requested Lokmat Media to ask the people to assemble once again, in a particular order, and sing the anthem again. The figure of 15,243 is what we arrived at after the second singing," Banfi added

Caterpillar arm to make engines at Aurangabad
http://www.thehindubusinessline.com/companies/article2834649.ece
Perkins India Pvt Ltd, a group company of US-based Caterpillar Inc, has plans to set up a greenfield facility to manufacture diesel and gas engines at Aurangabad.
According to sources, the company has finalised the location of the new facility, expected to go on stream in the second half of next year, at the upcoming second phase of the Shendra industrial estate. The proposed investment in the plant, for which Caterpillar has sought Mega Project Status, is around Rs 500 crore in the first phase, with a provision for expansion.
At Aurangabad, Perkins plans to make its 4000 series engines, currently made only in the UK, that are used in generator sets. The engines will be for sale in both the domestic as well as the export market, the source added.
Headquartered in Peterborough, UK, Perkins Engines Company Ltd is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Caterpillar Inc. The parent company is present in India through two facilities located in Tamil Nadu where construction machinery and engines are manufactured.
With six manufacturing sites worldwide, including two in China, Perkins is a leading manufacturer of industrial diesel and gas engines. These are used for a host of applications, including power generation and construction machinery. The company also sources components from India for use globally, and the setting up of a manufacturing facility for engines in India is expected to give a fillip to this business.
Demand for industrial land has prompted the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation to establish a second phase to the existing 800 hectare Shendra industrial estate in Aurangabad, home to Czech auto maker Skoda, Siemens, and Hindalco. Acquisition of 250 hectares for this purpose has been completed and Perkins is likely to be the first occupant of the new industrial estate.

MUMBAI: German premium car major Audi India will set up a new assembly line in Maharashtra for its sports utility vehicles to take on rivals BMW and Mercedes Benz.
The new assembly line in Aurangabad will start producing Q7 and Q3 SUVs by the end of the year, ramping up Audi's capacity to 8,000 units, a senior executive said.

The company is likely to launch the TT model in the first quarter. This will be followed by the new A4, considered a volume puller for Audi. It has also lined up the S6 and three other models for launch this year.
Audi plans to expand its reach by entering smaller cities like Nagpur, Bhopal, Lucknow and Goa.

"When we started marketing Palladium four-years ago the market was at an all time low. Today, we are seeing a lot of buying and interest from brands," said Ruia.
Phoenix Market city is expanding into new territories some of them are in partnership. The recent projects, which have become operational, are in cities such as Pune, Bangalore, and Chennai. The other new territories where it will make a debut include Lucknow, Bariely, Agra, Indore and Raipur.
According to Technopak luxury malls; DLF Emporio, UB City and Palladium are becoming popular, as they offer the niche mix of international and Indian luxury brands under one roof. Going forward the desire to experience luxury will percolate to mini metros such as Chandigarh, Surat, Ludhiana, Jalandhar and Aurangabad.
Phoenix Mills would focus on its retail operations. The company had earlier announced its plan to build a Rs 350 crore 5-star hotel at their Kurla mall in partnership with Marriott Hotel. This plan has been cancelled following a slump in the hospitality business, the company official said.

CMIA to host meet on tier-3 cities in June
Lokmat News Service Aurangabad, March 6
The tier-1 and tier-2 cities like Mumbai and Pune are proving expensive for the investors and hence they are moving their businesses to the countries like Sri Lanka, Philippines and Bangladesh. Efforts are being made to divert these industries to the tier-3 cities like Aurangabad. As part of this initiative, the Chamber of Marathwada Industries and Agriculture (CMIA) is organising a conference on 'Tier-3 cities: Future Growth of India' in June.
Aurangabad, Nagpur, Kolhapur and Nasik are considered as the tier-3 cities while Jalgaon, Jalna and Ahmednagar are in the tier-4 category. Mumbai and Pune have witnessed saturation of industries and making investment there has become expensive. The staff salaries have increased immensely. Hence, some Information Technology (IT) companies are moving to Sri Lanka and Philippines. It is necessary that these industries are retained in India. The proposed conference would be aiming at highlighting the advantages of the tier-3 cities.
Efforts will be made to rope in prominent personalities like planning commission deputy chairman Monteksingh Ahluwalia, Union commerce minister Anand Sharma, chief minister Prithviraj Chavan, industry minister Narayan Rane, Wipro chairman Azim Premji and Nandan Nilekani for the conference, said CMIA president Mukund Kulkarni.
The conference will aim at bringing strength of Aurangabad to the notice of policy makers as well as investors. Local entrepreneurs would benefit immensely after interacting with stalwarts.
