Hi everybody. I am one of the many people who never had the chance to visit the World Trade Center, but still have the Twin Towers in their hearts. I am not American but this fact doesn't prevent me from loving the towers and missing them. The only way that I found to express all this was to let them rise again. Not both of them, unfortunately, because I don't have the time and space, but someday the South Tower may rise as well, who knows...

Actually these are simply single-colored Chritsmas lights and I already had a problem with them as they burned out. I managed to solder them and now they work again but I hope they will last as long as possible since there won't be a big chance for me to change them if they fail again... :)

Most of the deformations in the structure are expected to disappear when all the floors are in place.
The current height is 19 floors over the lobby. The whole model should be 1.90m tall when completed.

I had a similar problem with my ESB model, and decided to make my own LED circuit, far more efficient (it only needed 2x 1.5v batteries) and it didn't caused any problems with the narrow space at the top. Looks like you won't have that reduced space problem.

Well, yes, I'm gonna place every single floor plate including some not existing in reality walls which will form tunnels. The purpose of these tunnels will be to lead the light from the core to the outer walls, creating the effect of a couple of offices with lights on. Actually that's why the core looks like Swiss cheese now... Concerning the lights, I don't have the possibility to change them anymore. I had thought about the option with the LEDs, but I didn't have the money, time and skill to deal with them. The christmas lights were a far cheaper and easier option (they costed 3 Bulgarian Leva /< 1.20 USD/). :)

Cool! And how are you going to paint the columns? silver paint bottles are far cheapier than markers in such projects. Areyou going to add the curtain wall behind the columns? What about the vertical axis problem? I did had alot of trouble trying to get everything straight... Too many questions, huh? Sorry, really interested.

Haven't thought about painting them yet, there is a long time to pass until that point. What's this curtain wall? Well, the vertical axis is really a serious issue and I'm not sure what's gonna come out of it :D The way to keep it straight that I have invented is very simple and it's efficiency is questionable. At each 20-th floor I put a whole floor plate with the exact dimensions of the base and a precise footprint of the core on both sides. Then, when I install the next core body and the corner columns + the next full floor plate, the building gets its right shape. Hope it won't fail me till the end... And, please, DO ask questions, some of them may be extremely helpful sometimes and, what is more, I love interest in my work, it brings me the needed motivation to cut 76 tridents :D

Nice method, I've got a better idea that might help: a thread pending from your ceiling that's holding a little yet heavy stone at the end, this should guarantee you a great guide for the building process. Try to create a small vertical shaft on the tower that runs from bottom to top, that's the place where you should place the thread. This, along with the fabrication of precise floor plates that match everything will ensure you completely vertical walls. Another problem you might have is the horizontal axis, specially once you get to the top, this can get solved with the use of a bubble level.
Curtain wall is a type of cladding consisting primarly of glass, so I suppose you're going to add glass, aren't you? :D

Yes, I know about the plumb but I'm not sure if it is precise enough. I mean, I could see such a big deformation myself. And the building could twist as well without making the plumb indicate anything if it's in the core. Thanks for the advice anyway. And yes, I've already added glass to the lobby and the first two floors (the ones in black). The twins were very reflective, the columns also were (though blurry due to the metal finish) and using the plexiglass will add more realism to your model. ;)

No, I actually use very simple sheets of PVC which are used for covering documents, booklets etc. They are fully transparent, but on the first two floors above the lobby I used black paper to cover them from the inside (these are service floors and don't need any lighting). Yes, I also wanted to make the effect of the reflecting corner columns but, since they are made of carboard, I don't think this would be possible. Unless I find some kind of a glancy paint.. :)

I saw aluminium framework to make glass display cabinets that had chamfered corners and top edge exactly like the old WTC. I figured if you could scale the width of the corner so to make it proportional to the width of the tower then run more aluminium strips vertically between it would make an awesome model but thinking about the tridents held me back.............Good to see someone doesn't chicken out : )

I can't actually show anything new and fascinating, simply because there are four identical sides of the building so whatever I do, it looks exactly as the thing i have just finished... anyway, at least I can inform you about the progress - the third side of the tower is now fully covered with tridents, the curtain wall and the ceiling of the fourth, last side, are also in place and awaiting their tridents, which are in the third stage of their production.

As initially planned, the names of the victims of the terrorist attacks on the Twin Towers are going to be placed on the floorplates of the skyscraper. The 6 sheets that contain the names of the ones who died in World Trade Center North, the people from American Airlines Flight 11 and the six people who lost their lives during the attack on February 26, 1993 are ready to get dispersed on all the 110 storeys of the model, making it not just the next model, but an improvised memorial.

At first I thought you were making a only a structural model..I have US Flag of Honor inscribed with every name of those lost hanging in the corner of my living room nearly as far from New York as anywhere on earth.The entire planet feels the pain of 9/11...yeah some don't but I ignore them......but no need to say more.

Why didn't you make it in 1:220 scale ? It's a well established scale for model trains, you could fit some figures in to that building, put some cars outside. That would give the beholder the perspective of the size.

That's a good question, but unfortunately it wasn't possible. I've chosen the scale in such a way that each outter column is exactly 2mm. wide since anz other size would be hard to work with... for example now I mark the grey ribbons at every second milimeter. Imagine that if I have to make it at every 2,... milimeter... dividing the milimeter into pieces is not the easiest thing to do :D
