Kota Bharu is a city in Malaysia, is the state capital and Royal City of Kelantan. The name means 'new city' or 'new castle/fort' in Malay. Kota Bharu is situated in the northeastern part of Peninsular Malaysia, and lies near the mouth of the Kelantan River, it had an estimated population of 425,294, making it one of the largest towns on the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia. By 2009, it became by far the most populous town on the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia with an estimated population of 577,301 and continues to increase to the estimated population of 609,886 in 2010 thus make it the most dense town on the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia. Kota Bharu is at rank of 10th in the list of the largest cities in Malaysia.

Holiday Villa Hotels and Resorts has signed a hotel management services agreement with a local developer, Zee Palace Hotel Sdn Bhd to operate and manage a brand new hotel in Kota Bharu, Kelantan.The 4-star hotel building is now under construction and is expected to be fully operational in the 3rd quarter of 2011.

It is located strategically in a town area known as Wakaf Che Yeh, about 7 kilometers away from the capital town of Kota Bharu and 15 minutes from the Kota Bahru airport. The area is a favourite shopping destination in Kelantan and attracts people all over.

The hotel building has 9 floors and upon completion, it will be branded as Holiday Villa Hotel & Suites Kota Bharu. The opening of the hotel will mark the first Holiday Villa property operated by the chain in Kelantan and its second property in the East Coast of Malaysia after Holiday Villa Beach Resort & Spa Cherating,Pahang.

Holiday Villa Kota Bharu is a business class hotel and will feature modern facilities and guest amenities that are designed for the comfort and convenience of both leisure and business travellers. This will include 114 guest rooms and suites from the 3rd to 9th floor, lobby, a restaurant, a multi-purpose hall as well as meeting and banquet facilities. For recreation, it will have a swimming pool, sauna and gymnasium.

Holiday Villa is one of Malaysia's leading hotel chains that operates internationally. With the addition of Holiday Villa Kota Bharu, the Hotel group will now have a total of 26 hotel hotels and resorts under its group portfolio operating in 10 destinations - Malaysia, Indonesia , United Kingdom, France, Sudan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Cambodia, Vietnam and P R China.

KOTA BARU: Construction and engineering firm Sara-Timur Sdn Bhd plans to invest up to RM600 million to develop an integrated commercial property project called Kota Baru Sentral@Tunjong in Kelantan.

Chairman emeritus professor Datuk Dr M. Zawawi Ismail said the project, which will feature shopping malls, luxury apartments and condominiums, a convention centre and office blocks, will be developed over three phases on a 16.5ha land in Tunjong.

"We expect to begin construction by June or July as land acquisition procedures and other preliminary engineering works are already completed," he told reporters here.

The project, Zawawi said, will be jointly developed with the Kelantan Menteri Besar Incorporated and Tunjong Development Corporation.

He said the first phase of the project involving a shopping centre called "village mall" is expected to be ready for occupation in two anda half years.

"We expect the entire project to be fully ready in five to seven years from now," Zawawi said.

He said Kelantan traditional architecture and contemporary Islamic designs will be infused into buildings in the project.

Lagenda Tunjong, formerly known as Kota Bharu Sentral@Tunjong, will commence the first phase of new urban development, with the new CheSiti Village Mall in Kota Bharu, Kelantan.

CheSiti Village Mall marks the first parcel to be developed and would be the most unique shopping lifestyle center in Northeast Malaysia, said Tunjong Development Corporation Sdn Bhd in a statement.

The mega development will be undertaken in seven phases, spread over five years.

It said the open-air design would feature modern architecture with themed pedestrian streets-capes like Kelantan street, Malaysia street, International Street and Arabesque Street, to name a few.

The first phase of the development would comprises more than 200 shops, designer boutiques, unique cafes, bistros and specialty stores ranging from fashion, health and beauty to toys, books, sports equipment, IT and related gadgets.

The new urban haven would also offer more than 300 lifestyle apartments, ranging between 600 and 1,500 sq ft with a choice of two and three bedrooms that include one bedroom annex units, ideal for singles or couples living with family members, the statement added. Bernama
