SINGAPORE
Despite being a majority-Chinese city, a Chinatown exists here for historical reasons, and is today a restored conservation area located just beside the skyscrapers of the CBD. A very contrasting scene indeed.

Melaka Town, Chinatown.
I think it is Malaysia's 2nd largest Chinatown after the one in Penang.

baqthier, that 1st pic you posted looks a lot like the Singapore one!
yes, since the last time you came, the Chinatown has become livelier as more businesses and food stalls have set up in there. I even walked inside that Indian temple
@nazrey, nice pics! I had some nice sharksfin soup at Bangkok Chinatown once

The Chinatown in Manila is ugly in my opinion.. Crowded, old, dusty and crowded.Mostly temples and businesses owned by rich Chinese-Filipinos who don't even live there. What's unique though is that Spanish-influenced buildings stand a line with Chinese monuments and residential highrises. Sadly, I don't have any pictures. The district is called Binondo, already famous in Spanish colonial times, known as a haven for Chinese immigrants and craftsmen.

Newer Chinatowns in cities like Los Angeles & Houston (where I live) are much nicer because they were built/formed by mostly newer immigrants from Taiwan (some HK and some mainland) during the late 70's and early 80's, as opposed to the older Chinatowns in cities like New York & San Francisco which were built/formed by mostly poor immigrants from Guangdong province during the late 1800's early 1900's.

For LA, i think you're referring to Monterrey Park-Alhambra area. not the real Chinatown in Downtown, which is similar to other countries' Chinatown.
But most Chinese people in Alhambra area are HK and Mainland people though. Most Taiwanese are in Roland Height-Daimond Bar area.;)

Calcutta (Kolkata) used to have a thriving China Town. But most younger Chinese have emigrated to Australia, Canada and the USA. However one of their biggest contributions to Calcutta is Chinese food ala Kolkata style. The Chinese food of Calcutta is the best that I have ever had! Okay I am biased. But anywhere I eat Chinese food, I long for Calcutta Chinese food. It is sooooooo tastyyyyyyyyyy! Lip smacking. Words cannot define it. You have to try it. Unfortunately you don't get that anywhere other than Calcutta.
We even have a name for it Calcuttonese...

That's true. Also alot of Taiwanese people reside in Irvine. About 45 minutes south of Rowland Heights.

Chicago chinatown is bad.
very fucking small. The black homeless are wandering around at night begging for money. Restaurants are infested with hispanics.
I am always wondering Why they don't get rid of the black homeless in Chinatown.
Yokohama chinatown is far better and much cleaner

China is very close to Korea but there is no Chinatown actually in Korea. This is strange.

Here's Manila's Chinatown aka Binondo...a blend of Chinese and Spanish influences. Unique isn't it? FYI...the Philippines has one of the lowest Chinese population in the SEA. Despite that, we have a Chinatown!

My city of Tijuana located in the state of Baja California,Mexico is home to a small but growing chinese comunity with 12,000 chinese living and working in this growing city of 2 million habitants, the chinese community is now the second largest foreign community only after the Americans wich is the largest with 43,000 living in this city.
In my state of Baja theres another city Mexicali wich is home to the largest chinese community in all Mexico,a lot of the shops and banks in the city have both spanish and chinese welcome sings and is also been said that theres a chinatown wich is under the city wich was built in the late 1920īs and only the chinese were allowed to enter this underground chinatown and it use to be used ti smugle alcohol to the U.S in the years of prohibition.Theres also other chinese communitys all over Mexico.
