It is a seaside town situated on the banks of the Kali river which is on the west coast of the Indian peninsula. Land of Scenic Beauty
Uttara Kannada District is one of the biggest districts of our State with abundant natural resources. The district has varied geographical features with thick forest, perennial rivers and abundant flora and fauna and a long coastal line of about 140 KM in length.
It is surrounded by Belgaum District and State of Goa in the North, by Dharwar District in the East, by Shimoga and Udupi Districts in the South. Arabian Sea forms the West border.
The other half is dependent on the South-West Monsoons. Paddy and Sugarcane are the main crops of the irrigated region. Ragi, Horsegram are the major crops of dry land agriculture.
In its 10.25 lakh hectares of total land, of which 8.28 lakh hectares is Forest land. And only about 1.2 lakh hectares of land (roughly about 12%) is under agriculture/ horticulture.
Om Beach :
The Om Beach, named because of its shape, is 11 kms from Gokarn. Foreign tourists because of its seclusion and the privacy it offers regularly throng it. Adjacent to this beach are Half Moon beach and Paradise beach. Kudle beach is an other beach nearby which is popular with foreigners.

This place is a hidden jewel :) ,GOA is famous coz of booze ashtey.I find it very dull.If you are that booze- party sharty kind of a person GOA is the best.Families cannot spend good time in goa beaches.
Karwar to Mangalore is simply breathtaking,Nityotsava.
Euro ji check out my surathkal pics,Mangalore (http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=634455&page=30).

Euromast January 21st, 2012, 05:37 PM Wow, rio de janeiro.personally I also like peaceful beaches. I donot like nangi pungi ladkiysn and all those drunkard, loud music. I like to listen the sound of the waves and cool breeze and sipping beer in peace
Euromast January 21st, 2012, 05:53 PM So KA has three coastal districts. None of the beaches are famous, so must be clean and peaceful. Both Mysore & Belgium are denied beaches , courtesy Kerala and Goa
engineer.akash January 21st, 2012, 06:37 PM ^^Yes perfect place for moonlight walk along calm beaches....Try it out once.

euro yes they are nice but OM beach is 20 years past its sell by date .
I know it from those days. but if the other places mentioned are like that you wont find any peace there. my guess is that on E A 's list one has to walk away from the main place to find some quiet.
one mans quiet is another mans hell
A few of those places are pilgrim centres and will be full of people.
but the whole coast , as an area, is stunning . nicknamed the saphire coast by the European guide books.
A E which of those mentioned are the quietest?
cheers
