It looks to be coming along fine. I hope it ends up looking as good as the proposed pictures look.
As you can see from my 2 pictures at the top of the page, it's still a big mess leading up to the buildings. I wanted to get up close pictures too, but it was still muddy the day I went from recent rains. I'm glad we have some on here, I've been curious.

Haha nakakatwa ak tak kalugaringon! Han bag o pala ak dinhi ha SSC, I thought ok la mag himo hin thread. I made one for Maasin and Southern Leyte, pero gin tanggal! I was planning then to make another one for Ormoc, maupay nala waray ak magpadayon. Now I know kay ano gintagan hin indpndnt thread Calbayognon because there are plenty of Calbayog - based forumers tapos damo gihap it outside Calbayof nga Samar-based forumers. Kun himoan it Maasin, gutiay man la it Maasinhon or himoan ngani it Ormoc, gutiay man la it outside Ormoc nga Leyte-based forumer. :lol:

I went by the DILG office and I guess that they are not associated with this site because they knew nothing about it. I must have gotten my city offices mixed up. That wouldn't be hard for me to do, because I don't know the city offices very well.
I did get some information from them, but I'm going to be seeking more for my website. I figure that Calbayog deserves as much recognition on the Internet as the bigger cities are getting. Things are moving in the right direction here and soon it will be a lot more popular. I hope it doesn't get as crowded though.

This site is not associated with the government, ang if your trying to get info about calbayog, you can go to the tourism and information office, it's located across the main cathedral, on the 2nd floor of the handuman building, there's a signage there, you woudn't miss it...

yup, they are already not allowed to enter J.D. Avelino Street, same with Motorcabs that aren't allowed in some parts of J.D. Avelino St. (From the the city hall area to the LTO office)

I have been a member of skyscrapercity long before you became a member so I know that there were several attempts already to have a Calbayog thread but it did not materialize.Don't you feel privileged that we have our own thread? CATBALOGAN CITY, Samar, Jan 7 (PIA) -- Calbayog Mayor Ronald Aquino in a press conference held last week bared that tourism and disaster risk reduction are among his top two priorities this year.
The mayor focusing on eco-tourism programs, disaster risk reduction and management and balance budgeting included cost-cutting measures and other infrastructure development to be his priority programs.
The mayor also laid out the budget in the different priority projects he planned.
For eco-tourism projects, Mayor Aquino said that the city has allotted Php 9.5 M for road rehabilitation to Bangon Falls in Barangay Bugtong Tinambacan District.
He also considered a budget of Php 7.5 M for road asphalting in Amampacang, Dinagan, Mabini, Lungsob,Catbaunan Road development.
They would also set up a zipline at Malajog Beach after negotiating with the private land owners for the purchase of lot for road network.
As to disaster risk preparedness, the city will provide shelter for informal settlers and the victims of natural disaster and calamities, the city, he said has identified relocation sites for the building a housing project, upon the approval of Php 200 M loan.
Aquino also disclosed that a Php 100 M will be used for the Aguit-itan Development Project; Php 50 M for the 18-hectare relocation sites in Barangay Trinidad abd another for Barangay Talahib.
The city will also purchase a speed boat and other equipments for disaster preparedness.
Instead of a lying-in clinic, an evacuation center and quick response equipments will be established very soon.
His health projects will be a partnership with Representative Mel Senen Sarmiento of Samar’s first district. (NBQ/PIA 8-Samar with GDRagudo)

When it comes to their profit mababa na masyado thats why their calbayog route is subject for termination. This is also the reason why we dont get promo tickets from other airlines in calbayog as much as we do with cebupac.

Airphil is still working on thier cebu-calbayog route, nahihirapan na silang mkakuha ng approval because their cebu-catarman route before did not went well.

The contractor already went to Calbayog (accdg to my friend from the city hall) last Saturday. The stallholders of the old market have until next week to transfer. By February, full swing na ang construction. Timetable is 10 months.

It's sad nga that Cebpac will stop flying Calbayog. I am more comfortable flying with them than Airphil. Hope they will consider na lang Ceb-Calbayog-Ceb instead.:)

Tacloban-Calbayog takes about 3-4 hours via Grandtours...Hotel accommodations which are cheap but good--Sophia Dianne Hotel, I's Plant hotel, Almira's Garden Hotel, F&A Suite etc.

Calbayog-Lavesares is 1 1/2 hours from Calbayog either via Catarman thru Grandtours or via Allen also thru Grandtours.

Ciriaco is doing well...in fact the owner was surprised about the performance of the hotel. They did not expect that it will be successful. Their convention facility is flooded with seminars and conferences. They are rushing now the construction of the pool and the spa so that they can open it this summer.:)

Anyways, Cebpac's load factor in Calbayog is higher than Airphils (accdg to @zack) but it is because of the promo fares. So their margin of profit is very thin...more passenger does not always translate to profits because of the fare differences. But, there is nothing to worry about it because Calbayog's growth is steady right now. It might not take a long time before they will resume their flights.:)

Well I don't know about Calbayog to Lavezares, but from Tacloban to Calbayog is about 3 1/2 hours via one of the van services or it's a bit cheaper on the bigger buses, but I don't recommend them, too crowded and some without a/c. As for hotels in Calbayog, there are plenty to choose from that don't cost so much. At my website you can see a nice list of them with prices and pictures. Agree. As what I said before, now that we have our own thread, let's make it more interesting and make the most out of it. :) It's a privilege given to us by the MODS and not a choice. We are not being selfish or with "crab mentality", we just feel privileged and enjoying that privileged. And if somebody is not comfortable with this new thread then he might as well not join this thread and create his own.

Please confirm this to your sources, dahil sabi nga ng ibang mga studyante sa CKC, hindi naraw tuloy doon ang Prince, and I haven't heard about METRO Gaisano comming in...

Mayor Aquino’s Welcome Remarks during the 1st PCL Provincial Convention

About a year ago, February 26, 2011 to be exact, I welcomed the officers and member of PCL-Samar to Calbayog City. You were here in Calbayog for your special meeting which had Ms. Alma Moreno as your guest of honor. Ug yana nga adlaw akun guin kakalipay an utro nga pagsaludar o panhumalatag sa iyo dinihi sini nga iyo bubuhatun nga siyahan nga PCL-Samar Provincial Convention.
This is the second time this year that I will be addressing a gathering with guests coming in from places outside of Calbayog. We are indeed happy that this 1st Provincial Convention of PCL-Samar is being held in Calbayog City. Events like these give us some idea or the impetus to put in place yet another thrust for our tourism program. And that program has something to do with M.I.C.E tourism (or Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibits tourism). In a way that will add another identity for Calbayog, as a convention center in Samar (or Region 8 for that matter). Sugad san akun guin padangat san akun mga mensahe san mga nakalabay nga Regional ug Provincial meetings nga guin buhat dinhi sa Calbayog, ini nga mga meetings o conventions nakakabulig san amun mga pitad agud pa makilala an ciudad san Calbayog.
Talking about identities, there was a time when we referred to Calbayog as the City of Many Identities. Indeed, there are many things that Calbayog is known for. I suppose that all of you, or at least most of you are aware that Calbayog is a City of Waterfalls now on the rise to progress; that Calbayog is city of talented people; that Calbayog serves the best-tasting Tinapa, Humba and Pili-nut delicacies in this part of the country. And yes, as some officials from other municipalities of Samar have acknowledged, Calbayog is the next big thing in Region 8; that Calbayog is the City to see in Region 8.
Thanks to the unity of the officials and our constituents, we have put in place a city that is ripe for investment and other development programs. It is not yet a perfect city, but we are proud to say that we have begun attracting big investors (proof to tell are the Gaisano and Robinson’s Malls that are to rise this year). And yes, we are happy to announce that as of the last quarter of year 2011, Calbayog has the lowest crime incidence in Region 8.
In my welcome speech during your PCL special meeting last year, I cited tourism and good governance as two aspects where LGU-Calbayog and other LGUs of Samar and the PCL-Samar can be partners or at least work hand in hand. I guess the same things can be said today.
Looking at today’s program, two of your sessions will contain topics that are quite on the “heavy side”, kumbaga seryoso nga dikusyun an kinahanglan. These topics have something to do with Climate change and Innovations in Legislation. Needless to say, your discussants for these topics are the best in their fields. My take on these is that whatever will come out of today’s convention, when you go back to do your day jobs serving your constituents, always remember how all of us can be more of service to the people of Calbayog and to the People of Samar.
There are many things that can be done to equate the name Samar with words like progress and development. Whatever these program or actions are, these will start with the unity and cooperation of the people of Samar. I guess your presence today is one step leading to that direction.

Just got back from Calbayog. Locals told me nagsimula na ang construction ng Robinson's. Hindi ko pa narinig yon, kako. But they swear nagsimula na raw. Sayang di ko napuntahan ang site para ma-verify.

Yun ang una kong pinuntahan. Mas maganda nga siya kesa sa Bo's Tacloban dahil bago pa at mas malaki. Gusto ko sanang mag-check in sa Ciriaco pero fully booked dahil sa Councilors' League. Besides, mahal masyado, to think hindi pa naman tapos ang hotel. Mataas ang rate pero wala ka pang pool na magagamit. Wala rin akong nakitang fitness gym. Pero maganda siya lalo na pag tapos na. I stayed at Joy Palace.

Maganda ang Calbayog kaso parang kulang sa night life which is why puno ang Bo's pag gabi. Ang layo nang pinuntahan naming outdoor disco na papuntang airport. Another thing, parang mas bustling ang Catbalogan. Still, I won't mind staying in Calbayog for a few months and exploring it more. :)

Oi, that's nice. Hope you also tried the homegrown coffee shops...SO Cafe pala may jazz bar yun, Ciriaco also has Jazz bar, Calle B etc, Sophia Dianne Hotel has KTV rooms and also I's Plant Hotel...Anyways kalat lang kasi nightlife ngayon. Maybe after the new RFM it will be concentrated in that place.

How was your stay at Joy Palace? You should have tried also Almiras's Garden Hotel because its affordable and with nice rooms.

Pinasira na kasi yung Movie House Disco which use to be the premier Disco bar in the city, pero bakit sa malayo ka pa, marami naman din sa proper, kahit hindi naman malalaki, meron isang malaki-laki sa 2nd floor ng Cinemar (magsaysay blvd.) and may isang malaki din sa 2nd floor ng Imelda's lodge.

I was saying "considered" not in the sense na they're actually a municipality, some people in Calbayog just refer to it as Tinambacan, na different from Calbayog, just how UEP is considered as a different town, but it's not actually a town, but Tinambacan and Oquendo do have there own set of councilors representing the second district of Calbayog...

If you mean pala that way, dapat in quotation mark yung word na considered so that you will not be misinterpreted or ma mislead yung nagbabasa. Iba yung "considered" sa considered. The first one is something informal or a jargon, the second one is formal or it is taken to means in its literal context.

PCSO to set up 25 new branches nationwide


AS part of its efforts to reach people who are in need especially those located in far-flung areas of the country, the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) on Wednesday announced that it will be establishing 25 new branches and sub-branches in the country.

PCSO general manager Jose Ferdinand Rojas 2nd said the new branches will be completed by the end of the year.

Rojas II said he already met with the heads of provincial district offices (PDOs) of the PCSO last January 16 and has laid the groundwork for the possible establishment of the new branches.

The PCSO management has proposed putting up the 25 branches and sub-branches in Tuao, Cagayan; La Trinidad, Benguet; Calapan, Oriental Mindoro; San Jose, Occidental Mindoro; Bacolod City, Negros Oriental; and Calbayog, Western Samar; in Ilocos Norte, La Union, Romblon, Masbate, Catanduanes, Bohol, Negros Oriental, and Zamboanga del Norte, in Nueva Vizcaya, Zambales, Ifugao, Ilocos Sur, Marinduque, Capiz, Bukidnon, Quirino, North Cotabato, and Surigao del Norte.

PCSO has been the government’s main agency that sources charity funds for medical and health programs and other charitie of national scope.

Rojas’s meetings with the PDO officials also dwelt on what groundwork to take for the laying of the necessary measures for the setting up of the new branches.

The PCSO general manager also led the consultation meetings with partners of the PCSO in extending medical and health assistance with an eye for widening the agency’s charity mission to the rural areas.

Rojas also took advantage of the visit to relay to heads of PDOs new developments and advised them of the “directions to take and gather inputs in terms of operations (charity assistance and lotto operations), among others.”

As far as I know, Kamayan sa Carayman and Marcial's Grille but I think there are other restos there which I am not familiar.
